Psalm 85:1-2

A Prayer for the Nation

For the director of music. A song of the sons of Korah.

85 Lord, you have been kind to your land.
You gave the people of Jacob back their riches.
You forgave the guilt of the people.
You covered all their sins. Selah

Psalm 85:8-13

I will listen to God the Lord.
He has ordered peace for his people who worship him.
Don’t let them go back to foolishness.
God will soon save those who respect him.
And his greatness will be seen in our land.
10 Love and truth will belong to God’s people.
Goodness and peace will be theirs.
11 On earth people will be loyal to God.
And God’s goodness will shine down from heaven.
12 The Lord will give his goodness.
And the land will give its crops.
13 Goodness will go before God
and prepare the way for him.

Ezekiel 36:24-28

24 “‘I will take you from the nations. I will gather you out of all the lands. And I will bring you back into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and your idols. 26 Also, I will teach you to respect me completely. I will put a new way to think inside you. I will take out the stubborn heart like stone from your bodies. And I will give you an obedient heart of flesh. 27 I will put my Spirit inside you. And I will help you live by my rules. You will be careful to obey my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave to your ancestors. So you will be my people, and I will be your God.

Mark 11:27-33

Leaders Doubt Jesus’ Authority

27 Jesus and his followers went again to Jerusalem. Jesus was walking in the Temple. The leading priests, the teachers of the law, and the Jewish elders came to him. 28 They said to him, “Tell us! What authority do you have to do these things? Who gave you this authority?”

29 Jesus answered, “I will ask you one question. You answer it. Then I will tell you whose authority I use to do these things. 30 Tell me: When John baptized people, was that from God or from man? Answer me!”

31 They argued about Jesus’ question. They said to each other, “If we answer, ‘John’s baptism was from God,’ then Jesus will say, ‘Then why didn’t you believe John?’ 32 But if we say, ‘From man,’ then the people will be against us.” (These leaders were afraid of the people. All the people believed that John was a prophet.)

33 So the leaders answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”

Jesus said, “Then I will not tell you what authority I use to do these things.”
