Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
7 O LORD my God, in You I put my trust. Save me from all who persecute me, and deliver me,
2 lest he devour my soul like a lion, and tear it in pieces, while there is no one to help.
3 O LORD, my God, if I have done this thing, if there is any wickedness in my hands,
4 if I have rewarded evil to him who had peace with me (indeed, I have delivered him without cause),
5 let the enemies persecute my soul and take it. Indeed, let him tread my life down upon the Earth, and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.
6 Arise, O LORD, in Your wrath, and lift up Yourself against the rage of my enemies. Awaken me to the judgment You have appointed.
7 So shall the congregation of the people surround You. For their sakes, therefore, return on High.
8 The LORD shall judge the people. Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to my innocence in me.
9 Oh, let the malice of the wicked come to an end. But guide the just. For the righteous God tries the hearts and reins.
10 My defense is in God, Who preserves the upright in heart.
11 God judges the righteous, and he who denounces God, every day.
12 Unless he turns, He has sharpened His sword. He has bent His bow and made it ready.
13 He has also prepared deadly weapons. He will ordain His arrows for those who persecute.
14 Behold, he shall work with wickedness, for he has conceived mischief. But he shall bring forth a lie.
15 He has made a pit, and dug it, and has fallen into the pit he made.
16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his cruelty shall fall upon his own head.
17 I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the Name of the LORD Most High. To him who excels on Gittith: A Psalm of David.
7 “So, you, O son of man. I have made you a watchman to the House of Israel. Therefore, you shall hear the Word from My Mouth, and admonish them from Me.
8 “When I shall say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall die the death,’ if you do not speak and admonish the wicked of his ways, that wicked man shall die for his iniquity, but I will require his blood from your hand.
9 “But, if you warn the wicked of his ways, to turn from them, if he does not turn from his ways, he shall die for his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.
10 “Therefore, O you son of man, speak to the House of Israel. Speak like this and say, ‘If our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are consumed because of them, how should we then live?’
11 “Say to them, ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I do not desire the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turns from his way and lives. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! For why would you die, O you House of Israel?’
12 “Therefore you, son of man, say to the children of your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him on the day of his transgression. Nor shall the wickedness of the wicked cause him to fall in it on the day that he repents from his wickedness; nor shall the righteous live because of his righteousness on the day that he sins.’
13 “When I shall say to the righteous that he shall surely live, if he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteousness shall be remembered. But he shall die for his iniquity that he has committed.
14 “Again, when I shall say to the wicked, ‘You shall die the death,’ if he turns from his sin and does that which is lawful and right,
15 —if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has robbed, walks in the Statutes of life without committing iniquity—he shall surely live, not die.
16 “None of his sins that he has committed shall be mentioned to him. He has done that which is lawful and right. He shall surely live.
17 “Yet the children of your people say, ‘The way of the LORD is not equal!’ But their own way is unequal.
18 “When the righteous turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall die by it.
19 “But if the wicked returns from his wickedness, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall live by it.
20 “Yet you say, ‘The way of the LORD is not equal!’ O you House of Israel, I will judge you, each one after his ways.”
19 Then Jesus answered, and said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you. The Son can do nothing of Himself, except that He sees the Father do. For whatever things He does, the same things the Son also does in like manner.
20 “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things, whatever He Himself does. And He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.
21 “For just as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them, so the Son quickens whom He will.
22 “For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
23 “that all should honor the Son as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son, the same does not honor the Father Who has sent Him.
24 “Truly, truly I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him Who sent Me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
25 “Truly, truly I say to you, the hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God. And those who hear it shall live.
26 “For as the Father has life in Himself, so likewise has He given to the Son, to have life in Himself.
27 “And has also given Him power to execute judgment, in that He is the Son of man.
28 “Do not marvel at this. For the hour shall come in which all who are in the graves shall hear His voice.
29 “And those who have done good shall come forth to the resurrection of life; but those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
30 “I can do nothing of My own Self. As I hear, I judge. And My judgment is just, because I seek not My own will, but the will of the Father Who has sent Me.
31 “If I should bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.
32 “There is Another that bears witness of Me. And I know that the witness which He bears of Me is true.
33 “You sent to John, and he bore witness to the truth.
34 “But I do not receive the testimony of man. Nevertheless, these things I say that you might be saved.
35 “He was a burning and shining lamp. And you were, for a season, willing to rejoice in his light.
36 “But I have greater witness than the witness of John. For the works which the Father has given Me to finish (the same works that I do) bear witness of Me, that the Father sent Me.
37 “And the Father Himself, Who has sent Me, bears witness of Me. You have not heard His voice at any time, nor have you seen His shape.
38 “And His Word you do not have abiding in you. For Whom He has sent, Him you did not believe.
39 “You search the Scriptures. For in them you think to have eternal life. And they are they which testify of Me.
40 “But you will not come to Me, that you might have life.
