Amos 5:18-24

18 Woe unto you, that [a]desire the day of the Lord: what have you to do with it? the day of the Lord is darkness and not light,

19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him: or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

20 Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light, even darkness and no light in it?

21 I hate and abhor your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and meat offerings, [b]I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

23 Take thou away from me the multitude of thy songs (for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.)

24 And let judgment run down as [c]waters, and righteousness as a mighty river.

Psalm 70

70 1 He prayeth to be right speedily delivered. 2 He desireth the shame of his enemies, 4 And the joyful comfort of all those that seek the Lord.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David, to put [a]in remembrance.

O (A)God, [b]haste thee to deliver me: make haste to help me, O Lord.

Let them be [c]confounded and put to shame, that seek my soul: let them be turned backward and put to rebuke, that desire mine hurt.

Let them be turned back for a reward of their [d]shame, which say, Aha, aha.

But let all those that seek thee, be joyful and glad in thee, and let all that love thy salvation, say always, God be praised.

Now I am [e]poor and needy: O God, make haste to me: thou art my helper, and my deliverer: O Lord, make no tarrying.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 [a]I would not brethren, have you ignorant [b]concerning them [c]which are asleep, that ye sorrow not even as others which have no hope.

14 [d]For if we believe that Jesus is dead, and is risen, even so them which sleep in [e]Jesus, will God [f]bring with him.

15 [g]For this say we unto you by the [h]word of the Lord, that [i]we which live, and are remaining in the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them which sleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a [j]shout, and with the voice of the Archangel, and (A)with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then shall we which live and remain, be [k]caught up with them also in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore, comfort yourselves one another with these words.

Matthew 25:1-13

25 1 The virgins looking for the Bridegroom. 13 We must watch. 14 The talents delivered unto the servants. 24 The evil servants. 30 After what sort the last judgment shall be. 41 The cursed.

Then [a]the kingdom of heaven shall be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and [b]went forth to meet the bridegroom.

And five of them were wise, and five foolish.

The foolish took their lamps, but took no oil with them.

But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Now while the bridegroom tarried long, all [c]slumbered and slept.

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh: go out to meet him.

Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.

And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are out.

But the wise answered, saying, Not so, lest there will not be enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the wedding, and the gate was shut.

11 Afterwards came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered, and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

13 (A)Watch therefore: for ye know neither the day, nor the hour, when the son of man will come.
