19 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,

² “Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them: ‘Ye shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

¹⁵ “‘Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment. Thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty, but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor.

¹⁶ “‘Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the Lord.

¹⁷ “‘Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart. Thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbor, and not let sin come upon him.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the Lord.

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful;

² but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law doth he meditate day and night.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

⁴ The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

⁵ Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

2 For you yourselves, brethren, know that our coming among you was not in vain.

² But even after we had suffered before and were shamefully treated at Philippi, as ye know, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the Gospel of God amidst much contention.

³ For our exhortation was not from deceit, nor from uncleanness, nor from guile;

⁴ but as we were allowed by God to be entrusted with the Gospel, even so we speak not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts.

⁵ For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is our witness),

⁶ nor sought we glory from men, neither from you nor yet from others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

⁷ But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children.

⁸ So being affectionately desirous for you, we were willing to have imparted unto you not the Gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees had heard that He had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

³⁵ Then one of them, who was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him and saying,

³⁶ “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?”

³⁷ Jesus said unto him, “‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.’

³⁸ This is the first and great commandment.

³⁹ And the second is like unto it: ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.’

⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

⁴¹ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

⁴² saying, “What think ye of Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said unto Him, “The son of David.”

⁴³ He said unto them, “How then doth David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,

⁴⁴ ‘The Lord said unto my Lord, “Sit Thou on My right hand until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool”’?

⁴⁵ If David then call Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?”

⁴⁶ And no man was able to answer Him a word; neither dared any man from that day forth ask Him any more questions.
