Jeremiah 15:15-21

15 O Lord, thou knowest, remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my [a]persecutors: take me not away in the continuance of thine anger: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

16 Thy words were found by me, and I did [b]eat them, and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for thy Name is called upon me, O Lord God of hosts.

17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, neither did I rejoice, but sat alone [c]because of thy plague: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

18 Why is mine heaviness continual? and my plague desperate and cannot be healed, why art thou unto me [d]as a liar, and as waters that fail?

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou [e]return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take away the [f]precious from the vile, thou shalt be [g]according to my word: let them return [h]unto thee, but return not thou unto them.

20 And I will make thee unto this people a strong brazen wall, and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not [i]prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee, and to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the tyrants.

Psalm 26:1-8

26 1 David oppressed with many injuries, finding no help in the world, calleth for aid from God: and assured of his integrity towards Saul, desireth God to be his judge, and to defend his innocence. 6 Finally he maketh mention of his sacrifice, which he will offer for his deliverance, and desireth to be in the company of the faithful in the Congregation of God, whence he was banished by Saul, promising integrity of life, and open praises and thanksgiving.

A Psalm of David.

Judge me, [a]O Lord, for I have walked in mine innocency: my trust hath been also in the Lord: therefore shall I not slide.

Prove me, O Lord, and try me: examine my [b]reins, and mine heart.

For thy [c]lovingkindness is before mine eyes: therefore have I walked in thy truth.

I have not [d]haunted with vain persons, neither kept company with the dissemblers.

I have hated the assembly of the evil, and have not companied with the wicked.

I will [e]wash mine hands in innocency, O Lord, and compass thine altar,

That I may declare with the voice of thanksgiving, and set forth all thy wondrous works.

O Lord, I have loved the habitation of thine house, and the place where thine honor dwelleth.

Romans 12:9-21

[a]Let love be without dissimulation. (A)Abhor that which is evil, and cleave unto that which is good.

10 (B)Be affectioned to love one another with brotherly love. In giving honor, go one before another.

11 Not slothful to do service, fervent in spirit [b]serving the Lord,

12 [c]Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, (C)continuing in prayer.

13 (D)[d]Distributing unto the [e]necessities of the Saints: (E)giving yourselves to hospitality.

14 (F)Bless them which persecute you: bless, I say, and curse not.

15 Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

16 Be like affectioned one towards another: (G)be not high-minded: but make yourselves equal to them of the [f]lower sort: be not [g]wise in yourselves.

17 (H)Recompense to no man evil for evil: procure things honest in the sight of all men.

18 (I)If it be possible, as much as in you is, have peace with all men.

19 Dearly beloved, (J)avenge not yourselves, but give place unto wrath: for it is written, (K)Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord.

20 (L)Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him: if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap [h]coals of fire on his head.

21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with goodness.

Matthew 16:21-28

21 [a]From that time forth Jesus began to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the [b]Elders, and of the high Priests, and Scribes, and be slain and be raised again the third day.

22 Then Peter [c]took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, Master, pity thyself: this shall not be unto thee.

23 [d]Then he turned back, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, [e]Satan: thou art an offence unto me, because thou [f]understandest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

24 [g]Jesus then said to his disciples, (A)If any man will follow me, let him forsake himself: and take up his cross, and follow me.

25 For (B)whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, shall [h]find it.

26 (C)For what shall it profit a man though he should win the whole world, if he lose his own soul? or what shall a man give for recompense of his soul?

27 For the son of man shall come [i]in the glory of his Father with his Angels, and (D)then shall he give to every man according to his deeds.

28 (E)Verily I say unto you, there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the Son of man come in his [j]kingdom.
