Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Lord Praised for Giving Deliverance.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, [a]who spoke to the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,
20 The Lord has (A)rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the (B)cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
21 For I have (C)kept the ways of the Lord,
And have (D)not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all (E)His ordinances were before me,
And I did not put away His (F)statutes from me.
23 I was also [a](G)blameless with Him,
And I (H)kept myself from my iniquity.
24 Therefore the Lord has (I)recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.
25 With (J)the kind You show Yourself kind;
With the [b]blameless (K)You show Yourself blameless;
26 With the pure You show Yourself (L)pure,
And with the crooked (M)You show Yourself [c]astute.
27 For You (N)save an afflicted people,
But (O)haughty eyes You abase.
28 For You (P)light my lamp;
The Lord my God (Q)illumines my darkness.
29 For by You I can [d](R)run upon a troop;
And by my God I can (S)leap over a wall.
28 “(A)For they are a nation [a]lacking in counsel,
And there is no understanding in them.
29 “(B)Would that they were wise, that they understood this,
(C)That they would discern their [b]future!
30 “(D)How could one chase a thousand,
And two put ten thousand to flight,
Unless their (E)Rock had sold them,
And the Lord had given them up?
31 “Indeed their rock is not like our Rock,
(F)Even our enemies [c]themselves judge this.
32 “For their vine is from the vine of Sodom,
And from the fields of Gomorrah;
Their grapes are grapes of (G)poison,
Their clusters, bitter.
33 “Their wine is the venom of [d]serpents,
And the [e]deadly poison of cobras.
34 ‘(H)Is it not laid up in store with Me,
Sealed up in My treasuries?
35 ‘(I)Vengeance is Mine, and retribution,
(J)In due time their foot will slip;
(K)For the day of their calamity is near,
And the impending things are hastening upon them.’
36 “(L)For the Lord will vindicate His people,
(M)And will have compassion on His servants,
When He sees that their [f]strength is gone,
And there is none remaining, bond or free.
37 “And He will say, ‘(N)Where are their gods,
The rock in which they sought refuge?
38 ‘(O)Who ate the fat of their sacrifices,
And drank the wine of their drink offering?
(P)Let them rise up and help you,
Let them be your hiding place!
39 ‘(Q)See now that I, I am He,
(R)And there is no god besides Me;
(S)It is I who put to death and give life.
(T)I have wounded and it is I who heal,
(U)And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
33 Oh, the depth of (A)the riches [a]both of the (B)wisdom and knowledge of God! (C)How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34 For (D)who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? 35 Or (E)who has first given to Him [b]that it might be paid back to him again? 36 For (F)from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. (G)To Him be the glory [c]forever. Amen.
