Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David, the slave of the LORD, who spoke unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,
1 ¶ I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies.
20 ¶ The LORD will reward me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he shall recompense me.
21 Because I have kept the ways of the LORD and did not become wicked departing in apostasy from my God.
22 For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.
23 I was perfect before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.
24 Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands before his eyes.
25 With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with a perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;
26 with the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt show thyself adversary.
27 Therefore thou wilt save the humble people; but wilt bring down high looks.
28 For thou wilt light my fire: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
29 ¶ For with thee I have scattered armies; and in my God I have overcome walled defenses.
30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is precise: a shield to all those that wait in him.
31 For who is God except the LORD? or who is a refuge except our God?
32 It is God that girds me with strength and makes my way perfect.
18 Of the strong One that begat thee thou art unmindful and hast forgotten the God that travailed for thee.
19 ¶ And when the LORD saw it, his wrath was kindled because of his sons and of his daughters.
20 And he said, I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end shall be: that they are a generation of perversities, sons without faith.
28 For they are a Gentile void of counsel, neither is there any intelligence in them.
29 O that they were wise, if they were prudent, they would understand their latter end!
30 How could one chase a thousand and two put ten thousands to flight if their strong One had not sold them, and the LORD had not delivered them up?
31 For their strong one is not as our strong One, and even our enemies are judges of this.
32 Therefore, their vine is of the vine of Sodom and of the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are very bitter.
33 Their wine is the poison of dragons and the cruel venom of asps.
34 Do I not have this laid up in store, sealed up in my treasuries?
35 Vengeance and recompense are mine, in the time when their foot shall slide; for the day of their calamity is at hand and that which is determined upon them makes haste.
36 For the LORD shall judge his people and repent himself for his slaves when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none shut up or left.
37 And he shall say, Where are their gods, their strong one in whom they trusted,
38 who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.
39 ¶ See now that I, I am he, and there are no gods with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and there is not one that can deliver out of my hand.
33 ¶ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments and his ways past finding out!
34 For who has understood the intent of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor?
35 Or who has first given unto him, that it be recompensed unto him again?
36 For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.
