⁵ ¶ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, Ask what you wish that I shall give thee.

⁶ And Solomon said, Thou hast shown unto thy slave David, my father, great mercy, according to the way he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

⁷ And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in.

⁸ And thy slave is in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people?

¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing.

¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,

¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

¹²⁹ ¶ Thy testimonies are wonderful; therefore does my soul keep them.

¹³⁰ ¶ The exposition of thy words gives light; it gives understanding unto the simple.

¹³¹ ¶ I opened my mouth and panted; for I longed for thy commandments.

¹³² ¶ Look thou upon me and be merciful unto me, as thou didst use to do unto those that love thy name.

¹³³ ¶ Order my steps with thy word; and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

¹³⁴ ¶ Ransom me from the violence of men, and I will keep thy precepts.

¹³⁵ ¶ Make thy face to shine upon thy slave and teach me thy statutes.

¹³⁶ ¶ Rivers of waters ran down my eyes because they did not keep thy law.

²⁶ ¶ And likewise also the Spirit helps our weakness; for we know not how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself makes entreaty for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

²⁷ But he that searches the hearts knows what is the desire of the Spirit, that according to the will of God, he makes entreaty for the saints.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

²⁹ ¶ For unto those who he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

³⁰ And unto those whom he did mark out beforehand the way, to these he also called; and to whom he called, these he also justified; and to whom he justified, these he also glorified.

³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us?

³² He that did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also give us all things with him?

³³ Who shall accuse the chosen of God’s? God is he that justifies them.

³⁴ Who is he that condemns them? Christ, Jesus, is he who died and, even more, he that also rose again, who furthermore is at the right hand of God, who also makes entreaty for us.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the charity of Christ? shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?

³⁶ (As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.)

³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

³⁸ Therefore I am certain that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come

³⁹ nor height nor depth nor any creature shall be able to separate us from the charity of God, which is in Christ, Jesus our Lord.

³¹ He put forth another parable unto them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field;

³² which indeed is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and make their nests in its branches.

³³ He spoke another parable unto them: The kingdom of the heavens is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until the whole was leavened.

⁴⁴ ¶ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto treasure hid in the field, which when found, a man hides it and, for the joy thereof, goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls,

⁴⁶ who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

⁴⁷ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a net that was cast into the sea and gathered of every kind of fish,

⁴⁸ which, when it was full, they drew to shore and sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

⁴⁹ So shall it be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth and separate the wicked from among the just

⁵⁰ and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

⁵¹ Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord.

⁵² And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, a husband of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old.
