⁵ In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.

⁶ And Solomon said, Thou hast shewn unto thy servant David my father great loving-kindness, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great loving-kindness, that thou hast given him a son who sits upon his throne, as it is this day.

⁷ And now, Jehovah my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a little child: I know not to go out and to come in.

⁸ And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

⁹ Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this thy numerous people?

¹⁰ And the word pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

¹¹ And God said to him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself discernment to understand judgment;

¹² behold, I have done according to thy word: behold, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart, so that there hath been none like unto thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

¹²⁹ PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful; therefore doth my soul observe them.

¹³⁰ The entrance of thy words giveth light, giving understanding unto the simple.

¹³¹ I opened my mouth wide and panted; for I longed for thy commandments.

¹³² Turn unto me, and be gracious unto me, as thou art wont to do unto those that love thy name.

¹³³ Establish my steps in thy word; and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

¹³⁴ Deliver me from the oppression of man; and I will keep thy precepts.

¹³⁵ Make thy face to shine upon thy servant, and teach me thy statutes.

¹³⁶ Mine eyes run down with streams of water, because they keep not thy law.

²⁶ And in like manner the Spirit joins also its help to our weakness; for we do not know what we should pray for as is fitting, but the Spirit itself makes intercession with groanings which cannot be uttered.

²⁷ But he who searches the hearts knows what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for saints according to God.

²⁸ But we *do* know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to purpose.

²⁹ Because whom he has foreknown, he has also predestinated [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be [the] firstborn among many brethren.

³⁰ But whom he has predestinated, these also he has called; and whom he has called, these also he has justified; but whom he has justified, these also he has glorified.

³¹ What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who against us?

³² He who, yea, has not spared his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him grant us all things?

³³ Who shall bring an accusation against God's elect? [It is] God who justifies:

³⁴ who is he that condemns? [It is] Christ who has died, but rather has been [also] raised up; who is also at the right hand of God; who also intercedes for us.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

³⁶ According as it is written, For thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we have been reckoned as sheep for slaughter.

³⁷ But in all these things we more than conquer through him that has loved us.

³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,

³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which [is] in Christ Jesus our Lord.

³¹ Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard [seed] which a man took and sowed in his field;

³² which is less indeed than all seeds, but when it is grown is greater than herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and roost in its branches.

³³ He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it had been all leavened.

⁴⁴ The kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hid in the field, which a man having found has hid, and for the joy of it goes and sells all whatever he has, and buys that field.

⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls;

⁴⁶ and having found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all whatever he had and bought it.

⁴⁷ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a seine which has been cast into the sea, and which has gathered together of every kind,

⁴⁸ which, when it has been filled, having drawn up on the shore and sat down, they gathered the good into vessels and cast the worthless out.

⁴⁹ Thus shall it be in the completion of the age: the angels shall go forth and sever the wicked from the midst of the just,

⁵⁰ and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

⁵¹ Jesus says to them, Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea, [Lord].

⁵² And he said to them, For this reason every scribe discipled to the kingdom of the heavens is like a man [that is] a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.
