11 [a]Teach me thy way, O Lord, and I will walk in thy truth: knit mine heart unto thee, that I may fear thy Name.
12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all mine heart: yea, I will glorify thy Name forever.
13 For great is thy mercy toward me, and thou hast delivered my soul from [b]the lowest grave.
14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have [c]sought my soul, and have not set thee before them.
15 But thou, O Lord, art a pitiful God and merciful, slow to anger, and great in kindness and truth.
16 Turn unto me, and have mercy upon me: give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the [d]son of thine handmaid.
17 Show a token of thy goodness toward me, that they which hate me, may see it, and be ashamed, because thou, O Lord, hast helped me and comforted me.
9 All they that make an image, are vanity, and [a]their delectable things shall nothing profit: and they are their own witnesses, [b]that they see not nor know: therefore they shall be confounded.
10 Who hath made a [c]god, or molten an image, that is [d]profitable for nothing?
11 Behold, all that are of the [e]fellowship thereof, shall be confounded: for the workmen themselves are men: let them all be gathered together, and [f]stand up, yet they shall fear, and be confounded together.
12 The smith taketh an instrument, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms, yea, he is [g]an hungered, and his strength faileth, he drinketh no water, and is faint.
13 The carpenter stretcheth forth a line, he fashioneth it with a red thread, he planeth it, and he portrayeth it with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, and according to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in [h]an house.
14 He will hew him down cedars, and take the pine tree and the oak, and taketh courage among the trees of the forest; he planteth a fir tree, and the rain doth nourish it.
15 And man burneth thereof; for he will take thereof, and [i]warm himself: he also kindleth it, and baketh bread, yet he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it an idol, and boweth unto it.
16 He burneth the half thereof even in the fire, and upon the half thereof he [j]eateth flesh; he roasteth the roast, and is satisfied; also he warmeth himself and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have been at the fire.
17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his idol; he boweth unto it, and worshippeth and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.
13 [a]For when God made the promise to Abraham, because he had no greater to swear by, he swore by himself,
14 Saying, (A)Surely I will [b]abundantly bless thee, and multiply thee marvelously.
15 And so after that he had tarried patiently, he enjoyed the promise.
16 For men verily swear by him that is greater than themselves, and an oath for confirmation is among them an end of all strife.
17 So God, willing more [c]abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the stableness of his counsel, bound himself by an oath,
18 That by two immutable things, wherein it is impossible that God should lie, we might have strong consolation, which have our refuge to lay hold upon that hope that is set before us,
19 [d]Which hope we have, as an anchor of the soul, but sure and steadfast, and it entereth into that which is within the veil.
20 [e]Whither the forerunner is for us entered in, even Jesus that is made an high Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
