7 For thy sake have I suffered reproof: shame hath covered my face.
8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, even an alien unto my mother’s sons.
9 [a]For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me, and the rebukes of them that rebuked thee, are fallen upon me.
10 I [b]wept and my soul fasted, but that was to my reproof.
11 I put on a sack also: and I became a proverb unto them.
12 They that [a]sat in the gate, spake of me, and the drunkards sang of me.
13 But Lord, I make my prayer unto thee in an [b]acceptable time, even in the multitude of thy mercy: O God, hear me in the truth of thy salvation.
14 Deliver me out of the mire, that I sink not: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the [c]deep waters.
15 Let not the water flood drown me, neither let the deep swallow me up: and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
16 Hear me, O Lord, for thy loving-kindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
17 And [a]hide not thy face from thy servant, for I am in trouble; make haste and hear me.
18 Draw near unto my soul and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.
18 Then said they, Come, and let us imagine some device against Jeremiah: for the Law [a]shall not perish from the Priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the Prophet: come, and let us smite him with the [b]tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
19 Hearken unto me, O Lord, and hear the voice of them that contend with me.
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul: remember that I stood before thee, to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
21 Therefore, [c]deliver up their children to famine, and let them drop away by the force of the sword, let their wives be robbed of their children, and be widows: and let their husbands be put to death, and let their young men be slain by the sword in the battle.
22 Let the cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring an host suddenly upon them: for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
23 Yet Lord thou knowest all their counsel against me tendeth to death: forgive not their iniquity, neither put out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee: deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
17 ¶ [a]Then the chief Priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which was the [b]sect of the Sadducees) and were full of indignation,
18 And laid hands on the Apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 [c]But the Angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 [d]Go your way, and stand in the Temple, and speak to the people, all the [e]words of this life.
21 [f]So when they heard it, they entered into the Temple early in the morning, and taught. And the chief Priest came, and they that were with him, and called the Council together, and all the Elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison, to cause them to be brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told it,
23 Saying, Certainly we found the prison shut as sure as was possible, and the keepers standing without, before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Then when the chief Priest and the captain of the Temple, and the high Priests heard these things, they doubted of them, whereunto this would grow.
25 [g]Then came one and showed them, saying, Behold, the men that ye put in prison, are standing in the Temple, and teach the people.
26 [h]Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence (for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.)
