Version
Psalm 69:7-10

For I have endured insults because of you,
and shame has covered my face.(A)
I have become a stranger to my brothers
and a foreigner to my mother’s sons(B)
because zeal for your house has consumed me,(C)
and the insults of those who insult you
have fallen on me.(D)
10 I mourned and fasted,
but it brought me insults.(E)

Psalm 69:11-15

11 I wore sackcloth as my clothing,
and I was a joke to them.
12 Those who sit at the city gate talk about me,
and drunkards make up songs about me.(A)

13 But as for me, Lord,
my prayer to you is for a time of favor.
In your abundant, faithful love, God,
answer me with your sure salvation.(B)
14 Rescue me from the miry mud; don’t let me sink.
Let me be rescued from those who hate me
and from the deep water.(C)
15 Don’t let the floodwaters sweep over me
or the deep swallow me up;
don’t let the Pit close its mouth over me.(D)

Psalm 69:16-18

16 Answer me, Lord,
for your faithful love is good.
In keeping with your abundant compassion,
turn to me.(A)
17 Don’t hide your face from your servant,
for I am in distress.
Answer me quickly!(B)
18 Come near to me and redeem me;
ransom me because of my enemies.(C)

Jeremiah 18:18-23

Plot against Jeremiah

18 Then certain ones said, “Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah,(A) for instruction will never be lost from the priest,(B) or counsel from the wise, or a word from the prophet.(C) Come, let’s denounce him[a] and pay no attention to all his words.”

19 Pay attention to me, Lord.
Hear what my opponents are saying!(D)
20 Should good be repaid with evil?
Yet they have dug a pit for me.(E)
Remember how I stood before you
to speak good on their behalf,
to turn your anger from them.
21 Therefore, hand their children over to famine,(F)
and give them over to the power of the sword.
Let their wives become childless and widowed,
their husbands slain by deadly disease,[b]
their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
22 Let a cry be heard from their houses
when you suddenly bring raiders against them,
for they have dug a pit to capture me
and have hidden snares for my feet.(G)
23 But you, Lord, know
all their deadly plots against me.
Do not wipe out their iniquity;(H)
do not blot out their sin before you.
Let them be forced to stumble before you;
deal with them in the time of your anger.

Acts 5:17-26

In and out of Prison

17 Then the high priest rose up. He and all who were with him, who belonged to the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.(A) 18 So they arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.(B) 19 But an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail during the night, brought them out, and said,(C) 20 “Go and stand in the temple, and tell the people all about this life.”(D) 21 Hearing this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began to teach.

The Apostles on Trial Again

When the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin—the full council of the Israelites—and sent orders to the jail to have them brought.(E) 22 But when the servants[a] got there, they did not find them in the jail; so they returned and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 As[b] the captain of the temple police and the chief priests heard these things, they were baffled about them, wondering what would come of this.

25 Someone came and reported to them, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple and teaching the people.” 26 Then the commander went with the servants and brought them in without force, because they were afraid the people might stone them.(F)
