Psalm 119:1-8

The Word of God

119 Happy are the people who live pure lives.
    They follow the Lord’s teachings.
Happy are the people who keep his rules.
They ask him for help with their whole heart.
They don’t do what is wrong.
    They follow his ways.
Lord, you gave your orders
    to be followed completely.
I wish I were more loyal
    in meeting your demands.
Then I would not be ashamed
when I think of your commands.
When I learned that your laws are fair,
I praised you with an honest heart.
I will meet your demands.
So please don’t ever leave me.

Genesis 26:1-5

Isaac Lies to Abimelech

26 Once there was a time of hunger in the land. This was besides the time of hunger that happened during Abraham’s life. So Isaac went to the town of Gerar. He went to see Abimelech king of the Philistines. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Don’t go down to Egypt. Live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land, and I will be with you. I will bless you. I will give you and your descendants all these lands. I will keep the agreement I made to Abraham your father. I will give you many descendants. They will be as hard to count as the stars in the sky. And I will give them all these lands. Through your descendants all the nations on the earth will be blessed. I will do this because your father Abraham obeyed me. He did what I said. He obeyed my commands, my teachings and my rules.”

James 1:12-16

Temptation Is Not from God

12 When a person is tempted and still continues strong, he should be happy. After he has proved his faith, God will reward him with life forever. God promised this to all people who love him. 13 When someone is being tempted, he should not say, “God is tempting me.” Evil cannot tempt God, and God himself does not tempt anyone. 14 It is the evil that a person wants that tempts him. His own evil desire leads him away and holds him. 15 This desire causes sin. Then the sin grows and brings death.

16 My dear brothers, do not be fooled about this.
