Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Righteous Branch
23 “(A)Woe to the shepherds who are [a](B)destroying and scattering the (C)sheep of My pasture!” declares Yahweh. 2 Therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who are shepherding My people: “You have scattered My flock and banished them and have not attended to them; behold, I am about to (D)attend to you for the (E)evil of your deeds,” declares Yahweh. 3 “Then I Myself will (F)gather the remnant of My flock out of all the land where I have banished them and cause them to return to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply. 4 I will also raise up (G)shepherds over them, and they will [b]shepherd them; and they will (H)not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, (I)nor will any be left unattended,” declares Yahweh.
5 “Behold, the (J)days are coming,” declares Yahweh,
“When I will raise up for David a righteous [c](K)Branch;
And He will (L)reign as king and [d]prosper
And (M)do justice and righteousness in the land.
6 In His days Judah will be saved,
And (N)Israel will dwell securely;
And this is His (O)name by which He will be called,
‘(P)Yahweh our righteousness.’
God Is Our Refuge and Strength
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. [a]According to Alamoth. A Song.
46 God is our (A)refuge and strength,
[b]A very (B)present help (C)in [c]trouble.
2 Therefore we will (D)not fear, though (E)the earth should change
And though (F)the mountains shake into the heart of the [d]sea;
3 Though its (G)waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its lofty pride. [e]Selah.
4 There is a (H)river whose streams make glad the (I)city of God,
The holy (J)dwelling places of the Most High.
5 God is (K)in the midst of her, she will not be shaken;
God will (L)help her [f]when morning dawns.
6 The [g]nations (M)roar, the kingdoms shake;
He (N)gives His voice, the earth (O)melts.
7 Yahweh of hosts (P)is with us;
The God of Jacob is (Q)our stronghold. Selah.
8 Come, (R)behold the works of Yahweh,
[h]Who has appointed (S)desolations in the earth.
9 He (T)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He (U)breaks the bow and cuts up the spear;
He (V)burns the chariots with fire.
10 “[i]Cease striving and (W)know that I am God;
I will be (X)exalted among the [j]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 Yahweh of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.
11 (A)being strengthened with all power, according to [a]His glorious might, [b]for the attaining of all steadfastness and [c]patience; (B)joyously 12 giving thanks to (C)the Father, who has qualified us [d]to share in (D)the inheritance of the [e]saints in (E)light. 13 Who rescued us from the (F)authority of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of (G)the Son of His love, 14 (H)in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The Firstborn of All Creation
15 [f]Who is the (I)image of the (J)invisible God, the (K)firstborn of all creation.
16 For [g](L)in Him all things were created, (M)both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether (N)thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—(O)all things have been created through Him and for Him.
17 And He [h](P)is before all things,
And in Him all things [i]hold together.
18 And He is the (Q)head of (R)the body, the church;
Who is (S)the beginning, (T)the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
19 For in Him [j]all (U)the fullness of God (V)was pleased to dwell,
20 And through Him to (W)reconcile all things to Himself, having made (X)peace through (Y)the blood of His cross—through Him—(Z)whether things on earth or things in [k]heaven.
The Crucifixion
33 (A)And when they came to the place called [a]The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. 34 [b]But Jesus was saying, “(B)Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” (C)And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the (D)rulers were scoffing at Him, saying, “He saved others; (E)let Him save Himself if this is the [c]Christ of God, His Chosen One.” 36 And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, (F)offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, “(G)If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!” 38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, “(H)THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
39 (I)And one of the criminals hanging there was blaspheming Him, saying, “Are You not the [d]Christ? (J)Save Yourself and us!” 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving [e]what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come [f]in Your kingdom!” 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in (K)Paradise.”
