Version
Psalm 123

A song to sing as we climb.

Servants of the Lord

123 I look up to you, God,
as you rule from your throne in heaven.
Yes, our eyes look up to the Lord our God.
We want him to be kind to us, so we wait for his help.
We wait like servants who want help from their master.
Please be kind to us, Lord. Please forgive us.
People have insulted us more and more!
    We have had too much!
Proud people laugh at us,
and they do not respect us.
Please stop them!

Job 20:1-11

Zophar speaks to Job again[a]

20 Then Zophar replied to Job. This is what he said:

‘I am very upset by the things that you have said.
So I must say more to answer you.
You have said things that insult me.
But now I know how to reply to you.
I am sure that you know this fact.
It has been true from long ago,
since people first lived on the earth.
You know that a wicked person is only happy for a short time.
His joy continues only for a moment.
He may think that he is more important than other people.
He may be proud of the honour that he receives.
But he will disappear for ever,
like dung that people throw away.
His friends will ask, “Where is he?”
He will disappear like a dream that quickly goes away.
Nobody can find him any more.
People who knew him will never see him again.
His family will no longer recognize him.
10 His children will have to give things back to poor people.
Those are the valuable things that he took from them.
11 He still had the strength of a young man.
But his strength will die with him when he lies in his grave.

2 Peter 1:16-21

Peter himself saw how great Christ is

16 We told you that our Lord Jesus Christ is powerful. We also told you that he will return to earth again. We were not telling you false stories that came from people's clever ideas. Instead, we were telling you what we ourselves had seen. We ourselves saw that the Lord Jesus is very great. 17-18 We were with him on the holy mountain when his Father God spoke to him.[a] God gave honour to his Son, Jesus, and he said that Jesus is great. We ourselves heard God's voice speak to Jesus from heaven above where God rules with power. He said: ‘This is my Son and I love him. He makes me very happy.’

God's messages in the Bible are very important

19 As well as that, we have the prophets' messages from long ago. They also show us very clearly that these things are true. The prophets' words are like a light that shines in a dark place. That light continues to shine in the dark until the dawn comes. So you need to think about those messages carefully. Then the morning star will rise and it will bring light deep inside you.[b] 20 It is very important that you should understand this: The prophets' messages in the Bible did not come from their own ideas. That never happens. 21 None of the prophets' messages came because any person wanted to say something. Instead, God's Holy Spirit caused people to speak words that came from God.[c]
