Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
God Has Had Enough
10 Hear (A)the word of the Lord,
You rulers of (B)Sodom;
Give ear to the instruction of our God,
You people of Gomorrah.
11 “(C)What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?”
Says the Lord.
“I [a]have had enough of burnt offerings of rams
And the fat of fed cattle;
And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs or goats.
12 “When you come (D)to appear before Me,
Who requires [b]of you this trampling of My courts?
13 “Bring your worthless offerings no longer,
(E)Incense is an abomination to Me.
(F)New moon and sabbath, the (G)calling of assemblies—
I cannot (H)endure iniquity and the solemn assembly.
14 “I hate your new moon festivals and your (I)appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me;
I am (J)weary of bearing them.
15 “So when you (K)spread out your hands in prayer,
(L)I will hide My eyes from you;
Yes, even though you (M)multiply prayers,
I will not listen.
(N)Your hands are [c]covered with blood.
16 “(O)Wash yourselves, (P)make yourselves clean;
(Q)Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
(R)Cease to do evil,
17 Learn to do good;
(S)Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
[d](T)Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.
“Let Us Reason”
Blessedness of Forgiveness and of Trust in God.
A Psalm of David. A [a]Maskil.
32 (A)How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered!
2 How blessed is the man to whom the Lord (B)does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is (C)no deceit!
3 When (D)I kept silent about my sin, (E)my [b]body wasted away
Through my [c](F)groaning all day long.
4 For day and night (G)Your hand was heavy upon me;
My [d](H)vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. [e]Selah.
5 I (I)acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I (J)did not hide;
I said, “(K)I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”;
And You (L)forgave the [f]guilt of my sin. Selah.
6 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You [g](M)in a time when You may be found;
Surely (N)in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
7 You are (O)my hiding place; You (P)preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with [h](Q)songs of deliverance. Selah.
Thanksgiving for Faith and Perseverance
1 (A)Paul and (B)Silvanus and (C)Timothy,
To the (D)church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 (E)Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 We ought always (F)to give thanks to God for you, (G)brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the (H)love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater; 4 therefore, we ourselves (I)speak proudly of you among (J)the churches of God for your [a]perseverance and faith (K)in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.
11 To this end also we (A)pray for you always, that our God will [a](B)count you worthy of your (C)calling, and fulfill every desire for (D)goodness and the (E)work of faith with power, 12 so that the (F)name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Zaccheus Converted
19 He (A)entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich. 3 Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a [a](B)sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way. 5 When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 And he hurried and came down and received Him [b]gladly. 7 When they saw it, they all began to grumble, saying, “He has gone [c]to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” 8 Zaccheus stopped and said to (C)the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I [d]will give to the poor, and if I have (D)defrauded anyone of anything, I [e]will give back (E)four times as much.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is (F)a son of Abraham. 10 For (G)the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
