Psalm 32:1-7

Psalm 32

A Psalm of David. A Contemplative Maskil.

Blessed is he
    whose transgression is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man
    against whom the Lord does not count iniquity,
    and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

When I kept silent,
    my bones wasted away
    through my groaning all day long.
For day and night
    Your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was changed
    into the drought of summer. Selah

I acknowledged my sin to You,
    and my iniquity I did not conceal.
I said, “I will confess
    my transgressions to the Lord,”
and You forgave
    the iniquity of my sin. Selah

For this cause everyone who is godly will pray to You
    in a time when You may be found;
surely in the floods of great waters
    they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place;
    You will preserve me from trouble;
    You will surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah

Proverbs 15:8-11

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
    but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord,
    but He loves him who follows after righteousness.

10 Correction is grievous to him who forsakes the way,
    and he who hates reproof will die.

11 Death and destruction are before the Lord;
    so how much more the hearts of the children of men.

Proverbs 15:24-33

24 The way of life leads above for the wise,
    that he may depart from Sheol below.

25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud,
    but He will establish the border of the widow.

26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,
    but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 He who is greedy of gain troubles his own house,
    but he who hates bribes will live.

28 The heart of the righteous studies to answer,
    but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
    but He hears the prayer of the righteous.

30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
    and a good report makes the bones healthy.

31 The ear that hears the reproof of life
    abides among the wise.

32 He who refuses instruction despises his own soul,
    but he who hears reproof gains understanding.

33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,
    and before honor is humility.

2 Corinthians 1:1-11

Salutation

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

To the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul’s Thanksgiving After Affliction

Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. As the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. If we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective in enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that as you partake in the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.

For we would not, brothers, have you ignorant of our troubles which came to us in Asia. We were pressured beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. We had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead. 10 He delivered us from so great a death and does deliver us. In Him we trust that He will still deliver us, 11 as you help together by praying for us, so that thanks may be given by many on our behalf for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many persons.
