Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Favor.
A Psalm of David.
138 (A)I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing praises to You before the (B)gods.
2 I will bow down (C)toward Your holy temple
And (D)give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your [a]truth;
For You have (E)magnified Your [b]word [c]according to all Your name.
3 On the day I (F)called, You answered me;
You made me bold with (G)strength in my soul.
4 (H)All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O Lord,
When they have heard the words of Your mouth.
5 And they will (I)sing of the ways of the Lord,
For (J)great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For (K)though the Lord is exalted,
Yet He (L)regards the lowly,
But the (M)haughty He knows from afar.
7 Though I (N)walk in the midst of trouble, You will [d](O)revive me;
You will (P)stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will (Q)save me.
8 The Lord will (R)accomplish what concerns me;
Your (S)lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting;
(T)Do not forsake the (U)works of Your hands.
7 In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, [a]Pur, that is the lot, was (A)cast before Haman from day to day and from month to month, [b]until the twelfth month, that is (B)the month Adar. 8 Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom; (C)their laws are different from those of all other people and they do not observe the king’s laws, so it is not in the king’s interest to let them remain. 9 If it is pleasing to the king, let it be [c]decreed that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who carry on the king’s business, to put into the king’s treasuries.” 10 Then (D)the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha (E)the Agagite, (F)the enemy of the Jews. 11 The king said to Haman, “The silver is [d]yours, and the people also, to do with them as you please.”
12 (G)Then the king’s scribes were summoned on the thirteenth day of the first month, and it was written just as Haman commanded to (H)the king’s satraps, to the governors who were over each province and to the princes of each people, each province according to its script, each people according to its language, being written (I)in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king’s signet ring. 13 Letters were sent by (J)couriers to all the king’s provinces (K)to destroy, to kill and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, women and children, (L)in one day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to (M)seize their possessions as plunder. 14 (N)A copy of the edict to be [e]issued as law in every province was published to all the peoples so that they should be ready for this day. 15 The couriers went out impelled by the king’s command while the decree was [f]issued at the citadel in Susa; and while the king and Haman sat down to drink, (O)the city of Susa was in confusion.
22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: (A)Jesus the Nazarene, (B)a man [a]attested to you by God with [b]miracles and (C)wonders and [c]signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— 23 this Man, delivered over by the (D)predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, (E)you nailed to a cross by the hands of [d]godless men and put Him to death. 24 [e]But (F)God raised Him up again, putting an end to the [f]agony of death, since it (G)was impossible for Him to be held [g]in its power. 25 For David says of Him,
‘(H)I saw the Lord always in my presence;
For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.
26 ‘Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted;
Moreover my flesh also will live in hope;
27 Because You will not abandon my soul to (I)Hades,
(J)Nor [h]allow Your [i]Holy One to [j]undergo decay.
28 ‘You have made known to me the ways of life;
You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’
29 “[k]Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the (K)patriarch David that he both (L)died and (M)was buried, and (N)his tomb is [l]with us to this day. 30 And so, because he was (O)a prophet and knew that (P)God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one [m]of his descendants on his throne, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of [n]the Christ, that (Q)He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh [o]suffer decay. 32 This Jesus (R)God raised up again, to which we are all (S)witnesses. 33 Therefore having been exalted [p](T)to the right hand of God, and (U)having received from the Father (V)the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has (W)poured forth this which you both see and hear. 34 For it was not David who ascended into [q]heaven, but he himself says:
‘(X)The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
35 Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’
36 Therefore let all the (Y)house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both (Z)Lord and [r]Christ—this Jesus (AA)whom you crucified.”
