Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
A Prayer for Guidance, Deliverance, and Forgiveness
Of David.[a]
25 To you, O Yahweh, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, I trust you; let me not be put to shame.
Do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Indeed, none who wait for you should be put to shame.
Those who betray without cause should be put to shame.
4 Make me know your ways, O Yahweh.
Teach me your paths.
5 Cause me to walk in your truth and teach me,
because you are the God of my salvation.
I await you all day long.[b]
6 Remember your compassion, O Yahweh,
and your acts of loyal love,
because they are from of old.
7 Do not remember
the sins of my youth or my transgressions.
According to your loyal love remember me if you will,
for the sake of your goodness, O Yahweh.
8 Good and right is Yahweh;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He causes the humble to walk in justice,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of Yahweh are loyal love and faithfulness
for those who keep his covenant and statutes.[c]
Yahweh Is Holy
19 Then[a] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to all the community of the Israelites,[b] and say to them, ‘You[c] must be holy, because I, Yahweh your[d] God, am holy. 3 Each of you must revere your mother[e] and your father,[f] and you[g] must keep my Sabbaths; I am Yahweh your[h] God. 4 You[i] must not turn to idols, and you[j] must not make for yourselves gods of cast metal; I am Yahweh your[k] God.
32 “‘Before[a] old age you[b] shall get up, and you[c] shall show respect for an old person; and you[d] shall revere your God; I am Yahweh.
33 “‘And when an alien dwells with you[e] in your[f] land, you[g] shall not oppress him. 34 The alien who is dwelling with you[h] shall be like a native among you,[i] and you[j] shall love him like yourself, [k] because you[l] were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your[m] God.
35 “‘You[n] shall not commit injustice in regulation, in measurement, in weight, or[o] volume. 36 You[p] must have honest balances, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin; I am Yahweh your[q] God who brought you[r] out from the land of Egypt.
37 “‘Thus you[s] shall keep all my statutes and all my regulations, and you[t] shall do them; I am Yahweh.’”
God’s Love for the World
16 For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge[a] the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him. 18 The one who believes in him is not judged,[b] but the one who does not believe has already been judged,[c] because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who practices evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed. 21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, in order that his deeds may be revealed, that they are done in God.
