Psalm 16

The Lord the Psalmist’s Portion in Life and Deliverer in Death.

A [a]Mikhtam of David.

16 (A)Preserve me, O God, for (B)I take refuge in You.
[b]I said to the Lord, “You are [c]my Lord;
I (C)have no good besides You.”
As for the [d](D)saints who are in the earth,
[e]They are the majestic ones (E)in whom is all my delight.
The [f](F)sorrows of those who have [g]bartered for another god will be multiplied;
I shall not pour out their drink offerings of (G)blood,
Nor will I (H)take their names upon my lips.

The Lord is the (I)portion of my inheritance and my (J)cup;
You support my (K)lot.
The (L)lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Indeed, my heritage is (M)beautiful to me.

I will bless the Lord who has (N)counseled me;
Indeed, my [h](O)mind instructs me in the night.
(P)I have (Q)set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is (R)at my right hand, (S)I will not be shaken.
Therefore (T)my heart is glad and (U)my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will (V)dwell securely.
10 For You (W)will not abandon my soul to [i]Sheol;
Nor will You [j](X)allow Your [k]Holy One to [l]undergo decay.
11 You will make known to me (Y)the path of life;
In (Z)Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are (AA)pleasures forever.

Leviticus 9:22-10:11

22 Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and (A)blessed them, and he stepped down after making the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. 23 Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting. When they came out and blessed the people, (B)the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 (C)Then fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

The Sin of Nadab and Abihu

10 Now (D)Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective (E)firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. (F)And fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what the Lord spoke, saying,

‘By those who (G)come near Me I [a](H)will be treated as holy,
And before all the people I will (I)be honored.’”

So Aaron, therefore, kept silent.

Moses called also to (J)Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come forward, carry your [b]relatives away from the front of the sanctuary to the outside of the camp.” So they came forward and carried them still in their (K)tunics to the outside of the camp, as Moses had said. Then Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “(L)Do not [c]uncover your heads nor tear your clothes, so that you will not die and that He will not (M)become wrathful against all the congregation. But your [d]kinsmen, the whole house of Israel, shall bewail the burning which the Lord has [e]brought about. You shall not even go out from the doorway of the tent of meeting, or you will die; for (N)the Lord’s anointing oil is upon you.” So they did according to the word of Moses.

The Lord then spoke to Aaron, saying, (O)Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the tent of meeting, so that you will not die—it is a perpetual statute throughout your generations— 10 and (P)so as to make a distinction between the holy and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean, 11 and (Q)so as to teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which the Lord has spoken to them through Moses.”

2 Corinthians 13:5-10

(A)Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; (B)examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you [a](C)fail the test? But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves [b]do not fail the test. Now we pray to God that you do no wrong; not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we may [c]appear unapproved. For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. For we rejoice when we ourselves are (D)weak but you are strong; this we also pray for, [d]that you be (E)made complete. 10 For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when present (F)I need not use (G)severity, in accordance with the (H)authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
