Psalm 16

Confidence in Yahweh

A miktam[a] of David.[b]

16 Protect me, O God,
for I take refuge in you.
Oh my soul you have said[c] to Yahweh, “You are my Lord.
I have no good apart from you.”
With regard to the saints who are in the land,
they are the noble ones in whom is all my desire.
Those who hurry after[d] another god increase their sorrows.
I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood,
nor take up their names on my lips.
Yahweh is the portion which is my share and my cup.
You hold my lot.
The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.
Yes, my inheritance is delightful for me.
I will bless Yahweh who advises me;
yes, at night my innermost being[e] instructs me.
I have set Yahweh before me always.
Because he is at my right hand I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices.
Yes, my body will dwell in safety,
10 for you will not abandon my soul to Sheol;
you will not give your faithful one to see the grave.
11 You will make known to me the path of life.
In your presence is fullness of joy.
At your right hand are pleasures forever.

Leviticus 9:22-10:11

22 Then[a] Aaron lifted his hand toward[b] the people, and he blessed them, and he came down after[c] sacrificing[d] the sin offering and the burnt offering and the fellowship offerings. 23 Then[e] Moses and Aaron entered the tent of assembly. When[f] they came out, they blessed[g] the people, and Yahweh’s glory appeared to all the people. 24 Then[h] a fire went out from before[i] Yahweh, and it consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And all the people saw it, so[j] they shouted for joy, and they fell on their faces.

The Deaths of Nadab and Abihu

10 And Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took his censer, and they put fire in them and placed incense on it;[k] then[l] they presented before[m] Yahweh illegitimate fire, which he had not commanded them. So[n] fire went out from before[o] Yahweh, and it consumed them so that[p] they died before[q] Yahweh. Therefore[r] Moses said to Aaron, “This is what Yahweh spoke, saying, ‘Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and in the presence of[s] all the people I will display my glory.’”[t] So[u] Aaron was silent.

Then[v] Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan the sons of Uzziel, Aaron’s uncle, and he said to them, “Come forward.[w] Carry your brothers from the front of[x] the sanctuary to outside the camp.”[y] So[z] they came forward,[aa] and they carried them outside the camp[ab] in their tunics, just as Moses had ordered.

Then[ac] Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “You must not let your hair hang loosely, and you must not tear your garments, so that[ad] you will not die and he[ae] will be angry with all the community. But[af] your brothers, all the house of Israel, may weep because of the burning that Yahweh caused,[ag] but[ah] you must not go out from the entrance to[ai] the tent of assembly lest you die, because Yahweh’s anointing oil is on you.” So[aj] they did according to Moses’ word.

Lasting Statutes

Then[ak] Yahweh spoke to Aaron, saying, “You and your sons with you may not drink wine or[al] strong drink when you come to the tent of assembly, so that[am] you will not die—it is a lasting statute for your[an] generations— 10 and to distinguish between the holy and the unholy,[ao] as well as[ap] between the unclean and the clean, 11 and to teach the Israelites[aq] all the rules that Yahweh has spoken to them through[ar] Moses.”

2 Corinthians 13:5-10

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are unqualified? And I hope that you will recognize that we are not unqualified! Now we pray to God that you not do wrong in any way, not that we are seen as approved, but that you do what is good, even though we are seen as though unqualified. For we are not able to do anything against the truth, but rather only for the truth. For we rejoice whenever we are weak, but you are strong, and we pray for this: your maturity. 10 Because of this, I am writing these things although I[a] am absent, in order that when I[b] am present I may not have to act severely according to the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.
