Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)

1 Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence.

² But his will is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he shall meditate day and night.

³ And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season. And his leaf shall not fall off: and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper.

⁴ Not so the wicked, not so: but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.

⁵ Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: nor sinners in the council of the just.

⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: and the way of the wicked shall perish.

⁵ And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

⁶ Say to the children of Israel: When a man or woman shall have committed any of all the sins that men are wont to commit, and by negligence shall have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and offended,

⁷ They shall confess their sin, and restore the principal itself, and the fifth part over and above, to him against whom they have sinned.

⁸ But if there be no one to receive it, they shall give it to the Lord, and it shall be the priest's, besides the ram that is offered for expiation, to be an atoning sacrifice.

⁹ All the firstfruits also, which the children of Israel offer, belong to the priest:

¹⁰ And whatsoever is offered into the sanctuary by every one, and is delivered into the hands of the priest, it shall be his.

⁵ For this cause I left thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and shouldest ordain priests in every city, as I also appointed thee:

⁶ If any be without crime, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of riot, or unruly.

⁷ For a bishop must be without crime, as the steward of God: not proud, not subject to anger, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre:

⁸ But given to hospitality, gentle, sober, just, holy, continent:

⁹ Embracing that faithful word which is according to doctrine, that he may be able to exhort in sound doctrine, and to convince the gainsayers.

¹⁰ For there are also many disobedient, vain talkers, and seducers: especially they who are of the circumcision:

¹¹ Who must be reproved, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

¹² One of them a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slothful bellies.

¹³ This testimony is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

¹⁴ Not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men, who turn themselves away from the truth.

¹⁵ All things are clean to the clean: but to them that are defiled, and to unbelievers, nothing is clean: but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God: but in their works they deny him; being abominable, and incredulous, and to every good work reprobate.
