45 Thus saith the Lord to my anointed Cyrus, whose right hand I have taken hold of, to subdue nations before his face, and to turn the backs of kings, and to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut.

² I will go before thee, and will humble the great ones of the earth: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and will burst the bars of iron.

³ And I will give thee hidden treasures, and the concealed riches of secret places: that thou mayest know that I am the Lord who call thee by thy name, the God of Israel.

⁴ For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have made a likeness of thee, and thou hast not known me.

⁵ I am the Lord, and there is none else: there is no God, besides me: I girded thee, and thou hast not known me:

⁶ That they may know who are from the rising of the sun, and they who are from the west, that there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is none else:

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness, I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord that do all these things.

96 For the same David, when his land was restored again to him. The Lord hath reigned, let the earth rejoice: let many islands be glad.

² Clouds and darkness are round about him: justice and judgment are the establishment of his throne.

³ A fire shall go before him, and shall burn his enemies round about.

⁴ His lightnings have shone forth to the world: the earth saw and trembled.

⁵ The mountains melted like wax, at the presence of the Lord: at the presence of the Lord of all the earth.

⁶ The heavens declared his justice: and all people saw his glory.

⁷ Let them be all confounded that adore graven things, and that glory in their idols. Adore him, all you his angels:

⁸ Sion heard, and was glad. And the daughters of Juda rejoiced, because of thy judgments, O Lord.

⁹ For thou art the most high Lord over all the earth: thou art exalted exceedingly above all gods.

¹⁰ You that love the Lord, hate evil: the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints, he will deliver them out of the hand of the sinner.

¹¹ Light is risen to the just, and joy to the right of heart.

¹² Rejoice, ye just, in the Lord: and give praise to the remembrance of his holiness.

² Grace be to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for you all; making a remembrance of you in our prayers without ceasing,

³ Being mindful of the work of your faith, and labour, and charity, and of the enduring of the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ before God and our Father:

⁴ Knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election:

⁵ For our gospel hath not been unto you in word only, but in power also, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much fulness, as you know what manner of men we have been among you for your sakes.

⁶ And you became followers of us, and of the Lord; receiving the word in much tribulation, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

⁷ So that you were made a pattern to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.

⁸ For from you was spread abroad the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia, and in Achaia, but also in every place, your faith which is towards God, is gone forth, so that we need not to speak any thing.

⁹ For they themselves relate of us, what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God.

¹⁰ And to wait for his Son from heaven (whom he raised up from the dead,) Jesus, who hath delivered us from the wrath to come.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.

¹⁶ And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou dost not regard the person of men.

¹⁷ Tell us therefore what dost thou think, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

¹⁸ But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites?

¹⁹ Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.

²⁰ And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this?

²¹ They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.

²² And hearing this they wondered, and leaving him, went their ways.
