⁷ Thou hast deceived me, O Lord, and I am deceived: thou hast been stronger than I, and thou hast prevailed. I am become a laughing-stock all the day, all scoff at me.

⁸ For I am speaking now this long time, crying out against iniquity, and I often proclaim devastation: and the word of the Lord is made a reproach to me, and a derision all the day.

⁹ Then I said: I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name: and there came in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was wearied, not being able to bear it.

¹⁰ For I heard the reproaches of many, and terror on every side: Persecute him, and let us persecute him: from all the men that were my familiars, and continued at my side: if by any means he may be deceived, and we may prevail against him, and be revenged on him.

¹¹ But the Lord is with me as a strong warrior: therefore they that persecute me shall fall, and shall be weak: they shall be greatly confounded, because they have not understood the everlasting reproach, which never shall be effaced.

¹² And thou, O Lord of hosts, prover of the just, who seest the reins and the heart: let me see, I beseech thee, thy vengeance on them: for to thee I have laid open my cause.

¹³ Sing ye to the Lord, praise the Lord: because he hath delivered the soul of the poor out of the hand of the wicked.

6 What shall we say, then? shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

² God forbid. For we that are dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein?

³ Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death?

⁴ For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life.

⁵ For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer.

⁷ For he that is dead is justified from sin.

⁸ Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ:

⁹ Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him.

¹⁰ For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God:

¹¹ So do you also reckon, that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁴ The disciple is not above the master, nor the servant above his lord.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the goodman of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household?

²⁶ Therefore fear them not. For nothing is covered that shall not be revealed: nor hid, that shall not be known.

²⁷ That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light: and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops.

²⁸ And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell.

²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father.

³⁰ But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

³¹ Fear not therefore: better are you than many sparrows.

³² Every one therefore that shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven.

³³ But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.

³⁴ Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.

³⁵ For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

³⁶ And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household.

³⁷ He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.

³⁸ And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me.

³⁹ He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it.
