A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day.
92 It is (A)good to give thanks to the Lord
And to (B)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
2 To (C)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (D)faithfulness [a]by night,
3 [b]With the (E)ten-stringed lute and [c]with the (F)harp,
[d]With resounding music [e]upon the (G)lyre.
4 For You, O Lord, have made me glad by [f]what You (H)have done,
I will (I)sing for joy at the (J)works of Your hands.
12 The (A)righteous man will [a]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (B)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (C)Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish (D)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [b](E)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [c]full of sap and very green,
15 To [d]declare that (F)the Lord is upright;
He is my (G)rock, and there is (H)no unrighteousness in Him.
Contrast the Upright and the Wicked
13 A (A)wise son accepts his father’s discipline,
But a (B)scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
2 From the fruit of a man’s mouth he [a](C)enjoys good,
But the [b]desire of the treacherous is (D)violence.
3 The one who (E)guards his mouth preserves his life;
The one who (F)opens wide his lips [c]comes to ruin.
4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is made fat.
5 A righteous man (G)hates falsehood,
But a wicked man [d](H)acts disgustingly and shamefully.
6 Righteousness (I)guards the [e]one whose way is blameless,
But wickedness subverts the [f]sinner.
7 There is one who (J)pretends to be rich, but has nothing;
Another [g]pretends to be (K)poor, but has great wealth.
8 The ransom of a man’s life is his wealth,
But the poor hears no rebuke.
9 The (L)light of the righteous [h]rejoices,
But the (M)lamp of the wicked goes out.
10 Through insolence [i]comes nothing but strife,
But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.
11 Wealth obtained by [j]fraud dwindles,
But the one who gathers [k]by labor increases it.
12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But desire [l]fulfilled is a tree of life.
12 Therefore, just as through (A)one man sin entered into the world, and (B)death through sin, and (C)so death spread to all men, because all sinned— 13 for [a]until the Law sin was in the world, but (D)sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned (E)in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a [b](F)type of Him who was to come.
15 But [c]the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of (G)the one (H)the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by (I)the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. 16 The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand (J)the judgment arose from one transgression [d]resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions [e]resulting in justification. 17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned (K)through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will (L)reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
18 So then as through (M)one transgression [f]there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one (N)act of righteousness [g]there resulted (O)justification of life to all men. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience (P)the many (Q)were made sinners, even so through (R)the obedience of the One (S)the many will be made righteous. 20 [h](T)The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, (U)grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as (V)sin reigned in death, even so (W)grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God
6 (X)What shall we say then? Are we to (Y)continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 (Z)May it never be! How shall we who (AA)died to sin still live in it?
