68 Unto the end, for them that shall be changed; for David.

² SAVE me, O God: for the waters are come in even unto my soul.

³ I stick fast in the mire of the deep: and there is no sure standing. I am come into the depth of the sea: and a tempest hath overwhelmed me.

⁴ I have laboured with crying; my jaws are become hoarse: my eyes have failed, whilst I hope in my God.

⁵ They are multiplied above the hairs of my head, who hate me without cause. My enemies are grown strong who have wrongfully persecuted me: then did I pay that which I took not away.

⁶ O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my offences are not hidden from thee:

⁷ Let not them be ashamed for me, who look for thee, O Lord, the Lord of hosts. Let them not be confounded on my account, who seek thee, O God of Israel.

⁸ Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

⁹ I am become a stranger to my brethren, and an alien to the sons of my mother.

¹⁰ For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up: and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

¹⁹ Attend to my soul, and deliver it: save me because of my enemies.

²⁰ Thou knowest my reproach, and my confusion, and my shame.

22 After these things, God tempted Abraham, and said to him: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.

² He said to him: Take thy only begotten son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and go into the land of vision: and there thou shalt offer him for an holocaust upon one of the mountains which I will shew thee.

³ So Abraham rising up in the night, saddled his ass: and took with him two young men, and Isaac his son: and when he had cut wood for the holocaust he went his way to the place which God had commanded him.

⁴ And on the third day, lifting up his eyes, he saw the place afar off.

⁵ And he said to his young men: Stay you here with the ass: I and the boy will go with speed as far as yonder, and after we have worshipped, will return to you.

⁶ And he took the wood for the holocaust, and laid it upon Isaac his son: and he himself carried in his hands fire and a sword. And as they two went on together,

⁷ Isaac said to his father: My father. And he answered: What wilt thou, son? Behold, saith he, fire and wood: where is the victim for the holocaust?

⁸ And Abraham said: God will provide himself a victim for an holocaust, my son. So they went on together.

⁹ And they came to the place which God had shewn him, where he built an altar, and laid the wood in order upon it: and when he had bound Isaac his son, he laid him on the altar upon the pile of wood.

¹⁰ And he put forth his hand and took the sword, to sacrifice his son.

¹¹ And behold an angel of the Lord from heaven called to him, saying: Abraham, Abraham. And he answered: Here I am.

¹² And he said to him: Lay not thy hand upon the boy, neither do thou any thing to him: now I know that thou fearest God, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake.

¹³ Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw behind his back a ram amongst the briers sticking fast by the horns, which he took and offered for a holocaust instead of his son.

¹⁴ And he called the name of that place, The Lord seeth. Whereupon even to this day it is said: In the mountain the Lord will see.

2 Then, after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.

² And I went up according to revelation; and communicated to them the gospel, which I preach among the Gentiles, but apart to them who seemed to be some thing: lest perhaps I should run, or had run in vain.

³ But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Gentile, was compelled to be circumcised.

⁴ But because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privately to spy our liberty, which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into servitude.

⁵ To whom we yielded not by subjection, no not for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

⁶ But of them who seemed to be some thing, (what they were some time, it is nothing to me, God accepteth not the person of man,) for to me they that seemed to be some thing added nothing.

⁷ But contrariwise, when they had seen that to me was committed the gospel of the uncircumcision, as to Peter was that of the circumcision.

⁸ (For he who wrought in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, wrought in me also among the Gentiles.)

⁹ And when they had known the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship: that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision:

¹⁰ Only that we should be mindful of the poor: which same thing also I was careful to do.
