Psalm 5

Prayer for Protection from the Wicked.

For the choir director; for [a]flute accompaniment. A Psalm of David.

(A)Give ear to my words, O Lord,
Consider my [b](B)groaning.
Heed (C)the sound of my cry for help, (D)my King and my God,
For to You I pray.
In the morning, O Lord, [c]You will hear my voice;
In the (E)morning I will order my [d]prayer to You and eagerly (F)watch.

For You are not a God (G)who takes pleasure in wickedness;
(H)No evil [e]dwells with You.
The (I)boastful shall not (J)stand before Your eyes;
You (K)hate all who do iniquity.
You (L)destroy those who speak falsehood;
The Lord abhors (M)the man of bloodshed and deceit.
But as for me, (N)by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house,
[f]At Your holy temple I will (O)bow in (P)reverence for You.

O Lord, (Q)lead me (R)in Your righteousness (S)because of [g]my foes;
Make Your way [h]straight before me.
There is (T)nothing [i]reliable in [j]what they say;
Their (U)inward part is destruction itself.
Their (V)throat is an open grave;
They [k]flatter with their tongue.
10 Hold them guilty, O God;
(W)By their own devices let them fall!
In the multitude of their transgressions (X)thrust them out,
For they are (Y)rebellious against You.

11 But let all who (Z)take refuge in You (AA)be glad,
Let them ever sing for joy;
And [l]may You (AB)shelter them,
That those who (AC)love Your name may exult in You.
12 For it is You who (AD)blesses the righteous man, O Lord,
You (AE)surround him with favor as with a shield.

Isaiah 56:1-8

Rewards for Obedience to God

56 Thus says the Lord,
(A)Preserve justice and do righteousness,
For My (B)salvation is about to come
And My righteousness to be revealed.
“How (C)blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who (D)takes hold of it;
Who (E)keeps from profaning the sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
Let not the (F)foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say,
“The Lord will surely separate me from His people.”
Nor let the (G)eunuch say, “Behold, I am a dry tree.”

For thus says the Lord,

“To the eunuchs who (H)keep My sabbaths,
And choose what pleases Me,
And (I)hold fast My covenant,
To them I will give in My (J)house and within My (K)walls a memorial,
And a name better than that of sons and daughters;
I will give [a]them an everlasting (L)name which (M)will not be cut off.

“Also the (N)foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
To minister to Him, and to love the name of the Lord,
To be His servants, every one who (O)keeps from profaning the sabbath
And holds fast My covenant;
Even (P)those I will bring to My (Q)holy mountain
And (R)make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on (S)My altar;
For (T)My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”
The Lord [b]God, who (U)gathers the dispersed of Israel, declares,
“Yet (V)others I will gather to [c]them, to those already gathered.”

Mark 7:24-30

The Syrophoenician Woman

24 (A)Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of (B)Tyre[a]. And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it; [b]yet He could not escape notice. 25 But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet. 26 Now the woman was a [c]Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And He was saying to her, “Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not [d]good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered and *said to Him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children’s crumbs.” 29 And He said to her, “Because of this [e]answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.” 30 And going back to her home, she found the child [f]lying on the bed, the demon having left.
