Old/New Testament
100 1 He exhorteth all to serve the Lord, 3 who hath chosen us, and preserved us, 4 and to enter into his assemblies to praise his Name.
A Psalm of praise.
1 Sing [a]ye loud unto the Lord, all the earth.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyfulness.
3 Know ye that even the Lord is God; he hath [b]made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 [c]Enter into his gates with praise, and into his courts with rejoicing: praise him and bless his Name.
5 For the Lord is good: his mercy is [d]everlasting, and his truth is from generation to generation.
101 1 David describeth what government he will observe in his house and kingdom. 5 He will punish and correct, by rooting forth the wicked, 6 and cherishing the godly persons.
A Psalm of David.
1 I will [e]sing mercy and judgment: unto thee, O Lord, will I sing.
2 I will do wisely in the perfect way, [f]till thou comest to me, I will walk in the uprightness of mine heart in the midst of my house.
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate [g]the work of them that fall away: it shall not cleave unto me.
4 A froward heart shall depart from me; I will know none evil.
5 Him that privily [h]slandereth his neighbor, will I destroy: him that hath a proud look and high heart, I cannot suffer.
6 Mine eyes shall be unto the [i]faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
7 There shall no deceitful person dwell within my house: he that telleth lies, shall not remain in my sight.
8 [j]Betimes will I destroy all the wicked of the land that I may cut off all the workers of iniquity from the City of the Lord.
102 1 It seemeth that this prayer was appointeth to the faithful to pray in the captivity of Babylon. 16 A consolation for the building of the Church: 18 whereof followeth the praise of God to be published unto all posterity. 22 The conversion of the Gentiles, 28 and the stability of the Church.
A prayer [k]of the afflicted, when he shall be in distress, and pour forth his meditation before the Lord.
1 O Lord hear my prayer, and let my [l]cry come unto thee.
2 Hide not thy face from me in the time of my trouble: incline thine ears unto me, when I call, make haste to hear me.
3 For my days are [m]consumed like smoke, and my bones are burnt like an hearth.
4 Mine heart is smitten, and withered like grass, because I forgat [n]to eat my bread.
5 For the voice of my groaning, my bones do cleave to my skin.
6 I am like a [o]pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the deserts.
7 I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.
8 Mine enemies revile me daily, and they that rage against me, have [p]sworn against me.
9 Surely I have [q]eaten ashes as bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,
10 Because of thine [r]indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast heaved me up, and cast me down.
11 My days are like a shadow that fadeth, and I am withered like grass.
12 But thou, O Lord, dost [s]remain forever, and thy remembrance from generation to generation.
13 Thou wilt arise and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to have mercy thereon, for the [t]appointed time is come.
14 For thy servants delight in the [u]stones thereof, and have pity on the dust thereof.
15 Then the heathen shall fear the Name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory,
16 When the Lord shall build up Zion, and shall appear [v]in his glory,
17 And shall turn unto the prayer of the desolate, and not despise their prayer.
18 This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be [w]created, shall praise the Lord.
19 For he hath looked down from the height of his Sanctuary: out of the heaven did the Lord behold the earth,
20 That he might hear the mourning of the prisoner, and deliver the [x]children of death.
21 That they may declare the Name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem,
22 When the people shall be gathered [y]together, and the kingdoms to serve the Lord.
23 He [z]abated my strength in the way, and shortened my days.
24 And I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years endure from generation to generation.
25 Thou hast aforetime laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thine hands.
26 [aa]They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: even they all shall wax old as doth a garment: as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed.
27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
28 The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall stand [ab]fast in thy sight.
The First Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians
1 After the salutation, 10 which in effect is an exhortation. 12 He reprehendeth the Corinthians’ sects and divisions, 17 and calleth them from pride to humility: 20 For overthrowing all worldly wisdom. 23, 25 he advanceth only the preaching of the cross.
1 Paul [a]called to be an [b]Apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, and our brother [c]Sosthenes,
2 [d]Unto the Church of God, which is at Corinth, to them that are (A)[e]sanctified in [f]Christ Jesus, (B)Saints by [g]calling, (C)with all that [h]call on the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both their Lord, and ours:
3 [i]Grace be with you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 [j]I thank my God always on your behalf for the grace of God, which is given you in Jesus Christ.
5 That in all things ye are made rich in him [k]in [l]all kind of speech, and in all knowledge:
6 [m]As the testimony of Jesus Christ hath been [n]confirmed in you:
7 So that ye are not destitute of any gift: (D)[o]waiting for the [p]appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.
8 (E)[q]Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be [r]blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 (F)God is [s]faithful, by whom ye are called unto the fellowship of his son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 [t]Now I beseech you, brethren, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that [u]ye all speak one thing, and that there be no dissensions among you: but be ye [v]knit together in one mind, and in one judgment.
11 [w]For it hath been declared unto me, my brethren, of you by them that are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now [x]this I say, that every one of you saith, I am Paul’s, and I am (G)Apollos’s, and I am Cephas’s and I am Christ’s.
13 [y]Is Christ divided? was [z]Paul crucified for you? either were ye [aa]baptized into the name of Paul?
14 [ab]I thank God, that I baptized none of you, but (H)Crispus, and Gaius,
15 Lest any should say, that I had baptized into mine own name.
16 I baptized also the household of Stephanas: furthermore know I not, whether I baptized any other.
17 [ac]For CHRIST sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel, [ad]not with (I)[ae]wisdom of words, lest the [af]cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For that [ag]preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness: but unto us, which are saved, it is the (J)[ah]power of God.
19 [ai]For it is written, (K)I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will cast away the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the [aj]Scribe? where is the [ak]disputer of this world? hath not God made the wisdom of this world foolishness?
21 [al]For seeing the [am]world by wisdom knew not God in the [an]wisdom of GOD, [ao]it pleased God by the [ap]foolishness of preaching to save them that believe:
22 (L)[aq]Seeing also that the Jews require a sign, and the Grecians seek after wisdom.
23 But we preach Christ crucified: unto the Jews, even a stumbling block, and unto the Grecians, foolishness:
24 But unto them which are called, both of the Jews and Grecians, we preach Christ, the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 [ar]For brethren, you see your [as]calling, how that not many wise men [at]after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called.
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world, to confound the mighty things,
28 And vile things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, and things which [au]are not, to bring to [av]nought things that are.
29 That no [aw]flesh should rejoice in his presence.
30 But ye are [ax]of him in Christ Jesus, [ay]who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.
31 That, according as it is written, (M)[az]He that rejoiceth, let him rejoice in the Lord.
