Psalm 60-62

60 1 David being now king over Judah, and having had many victories, showeth by evident signs that God elected him King, assuring the people that God will prosper them, if they approve the same. 14 After, he prayeth unto God to finish that that he hath begun.

To him that excelleth upon [a]Shushan Eduth, or Michtam. A Psalm of David to teach. (A)When he fought against [b]Aram Naharaim, and against Aram [c]Zobah, when Joab returned and slew twelve thousand Edomites in the salt valley.

O God, thou hast cast us out, thou hast [d]scattered us, thou hast been angry, turn again unto us.

Thou hast made the land to tremble, and hast made it to [e]gape: heal the breaches thereof, for it is shaken.

Thou hast [f]showed thy people heavy things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of giddiness.

But now thou hast given [g]a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of thy truth. Selah.

That thy beloved may be delivered, help with thy right hand and hear me.

God hath spoken in his [h]holiness: therefore I will rejoice: I shall divide Shechem, and measure the valley of Succoth.

Gilead shall be mine, and Manasseh shall be mine: Ephraim also shall be the [i]strength of mine head: [j]Judah is my lawgiver.

Moab shall be my [k]washpot: over Edom will I cast out my shoe: [l]Philistia show thyself joyful for me.

Who will lead me into the [m]strong city? who will bring me unto Edom?

10 Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off, and didst not go forth, O God, with our armies?

11 Give us help against trouble: for vain is the help of man.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly; for he shall tread down our enemies.

61 1 Whether that he were in danger of the Ammonites, or being pursued of Absalom, here he crieth to be heard and delivered, 7 And confirmed in his kingdom. 8 He promiseth perpetual praises.

To him that excelleth on Neginoth. A Psalm of David.

Hear my cry, O God: give ear unto my prayer.

From [n]the ends of the earth will I cry unto thee: when mine heart is oppressed, bring me upon the rock that is [o]higher than I.

For thou hast been my hope, and a strong tower against the enemy.

I will dwell in thy Tabernacle forever, and my trust shall be under the covering of thy wings. Selah.

For thou, O God, [p]hast heard my desires; thou hast given an heritage unto those that fear thy Name.

Thou shalt give the King a [q]long life; his years shall be as many ages.

He shall dwell before God forever; prepare [r]mercy and faithfulness, that they may preserve him.

So will I always sing praise unto thy Name, in performing daily my vows.

62 This Psalm partly containeth meditation, whereby David encourageth himself to trust in God against the assaults of temptations.  And because our minds are easily drawn from God by the allurements of the world, he sharply reproveth this vanity, to the intent he might cleave fast to the Lord.

To the excellent Musician (B)Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

Yet [s]my soul keepeth silence unto God; of him cometh my salvation.

[t]Yet he is my strength and my salvation, and my defense; therefore I shall not much be moved.

How long will ye imagine mischief against a [u]man? ye shall be all slain; ye shall be as a bowed wall, or as a [v]wall shaken.

Yet they consult to cast him down from his dignity; their delight is in lies: they bless with their mouths, but curse with their hearts. Selah.

[w]Yet my soul, keep thou silence unto God: for mine hope is in him.

Yet is he my strength and my salvation, and my defense: therefore I shall not be moved.

In God is my salvation and my [x]glory, the rock of my strength; in God is my trust.

Trust in him always, ye people; [y]pour out your hearts before him, for God is our hope. Selah.

Yet the children of men are vanity, the chief men are liars: to lay them upon a balance they are altogether lighter than vanity.

10 Trust not in oppression nor in robbery: [z]be not vain: if riches increase, set not your heart thereon.

11 God spake [aa]once or twice, I have heard it, that power belongeth unto God,

12 And to thee, O Lord, mercy: for thou [ab]rewardest everyone according to his work.

Romans 5

1 He amplifieth 2 Christ’s righteousness, which is laid hold on by faith, 5 who was given for the weak, 8 and sinful. 14 He compareth Christ with Adam. 17 Death with Life, 20 and the Law with Grace.

Then being [a]justified by faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

(A)[b]By whom also through faith we have [c]had this access into this grace [d]wherein we [e]stand, [f]and [g]rejoice under the hope of the glory of God.

[h]Neither that only, but also we (B)rejoice in tribulations, [i]knowing that tribulation bringeth forth patience.

And patience experience, and experience hope.

[j]And hope maketh not ashamed, because the [k]love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the holy Ghost, which is given unto us.

[l]For Christ, when we were yet of no strength, at his [m]time died for the (C)ungodly.

[n]Doubtless one will scarce die [o]for a righteous man: but yet for a good man it may be that one dare die.

But God [p]setteth out his love towards us, seeing that while we were yet [q]sinners, Christ died for us.

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from [r]wrath through him.

10 For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life,

11 [s]And not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

12 [t]Wherefore, as by [u]one man [v]sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death went over all men: [w]in whom all men have sinned.

13 [x]For unto the [y]time of the Law was sin in the world, but sin is not [z]imputed, while there is no law.

14 [aa]But death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over [ab]them also that sinned not after the like [ac]manner of the transgression of Adam, [ad]which was the figure of him that was to come.

15 [ae]But yet the gift is not so as is the offense: for if through the offense of [af]that one, many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

16 [ag]Neither is the gift so, as that which entered in by one that sinned: for the fault came of one offense unto condemnation: but the gift is of many offenses to [ah]justification.

17 [ai]For if by the offense of one, death reigned through one, much more shall they which receive that abundance of grace, and of that gift of that righteousness, [aj]reign in life through one, that is, Jesus Christ.

18 [ak]Likewise then, as by the offense of one, the fault came on all men to condemnation, so by the justifying of one, the benefit abounded toward all men to the [al]justification of life.

19 [am]For as by one man’s [an]disobedience [ao]many were made sinners, so by that obedience of that one, shall many also be made righteous.

20 [ap]Moreover, the Law [aq]entered thereupon, that the offense should abound: nevertheless, where sin abounded, there grace [ar]abounded much more:

21 That as sin had reigned unto death, so might grace also reign by righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
