Job 20-21

20 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

“Doubtless my divided thoughts cause me to answer, and therefore I hurry.

“I have heard the correction of my reproach. Therefore, the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

“Do you not know this from old, since God placed man upon the Earth,

“that the rejoicing of the wicked is short, and that the joy of the hypocrites is but a moment?

“Though his pride mounts up to the heaven, and his head reaches to the clouds,

“yet shall he perish forever like his dung. Those who have seen him shall say, ‘Where is he?’

“He shall flee away as a dream and they shall not find him, and shall pass away as a vision of the night,

“so that the eye which had seen him shall do so no more and his place shall see him no more.

10 “His children shall flatter the poor, and his hands shall restore his substance.

11 “His bones are full of his youth, but it shall lie down with him in the dust.

12 “When wickedness was sweet in his mouth, he hid it under his tongue,

13 “favored it, and would not forsake it, but kept it close in his mouth.

14 “His food in his bowels was turned, the gall of asps in the midst of him.

15 “He has devoured substance and he shall vomit it. God shall draw it out of his belly.

16 “He shall suck the gall of asps. The viper’s tongue shall slay him.

17 “He shall not see the rivers, the floods, streams of honey and butter.

18 “He shall restore the labor and shall devour no more. His exchange shall be according to the substance, and he shall enjoy it no more.

19 “For he has undone many. He has forsaken the poor, has spoiled houses which he did not build.

20 “Surely, he shall feel no quietness in his body, nor shall he reserve any of that which he desired.

21 “None of his food shall be left, nor hope for his well-being.

22 “When he shall be filled with his abundance, he shall be in pain. The hand of all the wicked shall assail him.

23 “He shall be about to fill his belly, but God shall send His fierce wrath upon him, and shall cause it to rain upon him, even upon his food.

24 “He shall flee from the iron weapons. The bow of steel shall strike him through,

25 “be drawn out and come forth from the body, and shine from his gall. Fear will come upon him.

26 “All darkness shall be hidden in his secret places. The fire that is not blown shall devour him. That which remains in his tabernacle shall be destroyed.

27 “The heaven shall declare his wickedness and the Earth shall rise up against him.

28 “The increase of his house shall vanish. It shall flow away on the day of His wrath.

29 “This is the portion from God for the wicked man, and the heritage commanded by God.”

21 But Job answered, and said,

“Hear diligently my words. And let this be your consolation.

“Allow me to speak. And when I have spoken, mock on.

“Is my complaint to man? If it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

“Mark me and be appalled. And lay your hand upon your mouth.

“Even when I remember, I am afraid. And fear takes hold of my flesh.

“Why do the wicked live, grow old, and increase in wealth?

“Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their generation before their eyes.

“Their houses are peaceable, without fear. And the rod of God is not upon them.

10 “Their bull breeds, without fail. Their cow calves, and does not cast her calf.

11 “They send forth their children like sheep, and their sons dance.

12 “They take the tambourine and harp and rejoice in the sound of the organs.

13 “They spend their days in wealth, and suddenly they go down to the grave.

14 “They say also to God, ‘Depart from us! For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways!

15 ‘Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we should pray to him?’

16 “Lo, their wealth is not in their hand. Let the counsel of the wicked be far from me.

17 “How often shall the candle of the wicked be put out and their destruction come upon them? He will divide their lives in His wrath.

18 “They shall be as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carries away.

19 “God will lay up sorrow for one’s children. When He rewards him, he shall know it.

20 “His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

21 “For what pleasure does he have in his house after him when the number of his months is cut off?

22 “Shall any teach God knowledge, Who judges the highest things?

23 “One dies in his full strength, being in all ease and prosperity.

24 “His breasts are full of milk, and his bones run full of marrow.

25 “And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, and never eats with pleasure.

26 “They both shall sleep in the dust. And the worms shall cover them.

27 “Behold, I know your thoughts, and the enterprises with which you do me wrong.

28 “For you say, ‘Where is the prince’s house?’ and ‘Where is the tabernacle of the wicked’s dwelling?’

29 “Have you not asked those who go by the way? And you cannot deny their signs.

30 “But the wicked are kept to the Day of Destruction. They shall be brought forth to the Day of Wrath.

31 “Who shall declare his way to His face? And who shall reward him for what he has done?

32 “Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and remain in the heap.

33 “The slimy valley shall be sweet to him, and every man shall follow him, as before him there were innumerable.

34 “How, then, can you comfort me in vain, seeing in your answer there remains but lies?”

Acts 10:24-48

24 And the day after that, they entered into Caesarea. Now Cornelius waited for them and had called together his family and special friends.

25 And it so happened, as Peter came in, that Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up. For I myself am also a man.”

27 And as he talked with him, he came in and found many who had gathered.

28 And he said to them, “You know that it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to keep company with, or come near, one of another Nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common, or unclean.

29 “Therefore I came to you without saying no when I was summoned. I ask, then, the reason why have you sent for me?”

30 Then Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I fasted. And at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house. And behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 “and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard. And your alms are held in remembrance in the sight of God.

32 ‘Therefore, send to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter (he is lodged in the house of Simon a Tanner by the seaside) When he comes, he shall speak to you.’

33 “Then sent I for you immediately. And you have done well to come. Now, therefore, are we all present here before God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, “Truthfully, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.

35 “But in every Nation, the one who fears Him, and works righteousness, is acceptable to Him.

36 “The Word - which God has sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, Who is Lord of all -

37 “you know the Word which came through all Judea, beginning in Galilee, after the Baptism which John preached;

38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power - Who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil - for God was with Him.

39 “And we are witnesses of all things done by Him Whom they killed and hung on a tree (things in both the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem).

40 “God raised Him up the third day, and showed Him openly -

41 “not to all the people, but to the witnesses chosen by God beforehand - to those of us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

42 “And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that He has been ordained by God as a judge of quick and dead.

43 “To Him also give all the Prophets witness, that through His Name all who believe in Him shall receive forgiveness of sins.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Ghost fell upon all those who heard the word.

45 So those of the circumcision who believed (as many as had come with Peter), were astonished because the gift of the Holy Ghost was also poured out on the Gentiles.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,

47 “Can anyone forbid water, so that these who have received the Holy Ghost, as we have, should not be baptized?”

48 So he commanded them to be baptized in the Name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay some days.
