Numbers 23-25

23 And Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare for me here seven bullocks and seven rams.”

And Balak did as Balaam said. And Balak and Balaam offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand by your Burnt Offering. And I will go, if the LORD will come meet me. And whatever He shows me, I will tell you.” So he went forth alone.

And God met Balaam. And Balaam said to him, “I have prepared seven altars and have offered a bullock and a ram upon every altar.”

And the LORD put an answer in Balaam’s mouth, and said, “Go back to Balak and say the same.”

So, when he turned to him, lo, he stood by his Burnt Offering (he and all the princes of Moab).

Then he uttered his parable, and said, “Balak the King of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, ‘Come, curse Jacob for my sake. Come, and detest Israel.’

“How shall I curse where God has not cursed? Or how shall I detest where the LORD has not detested?

“For from the top of the rocks I saw him, and from the hills I beheld him. Lo, the people shall dwell by themselves and shall not be reckoned among the nations.

10 “Who can tell the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous. And let my last end be like his.”

11 Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies. And behold, you have blessed them altogether.”

12 And he answered, and said, “Must I not be careful to speak that which the LORD has put in my mouth?”

13 And Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place from where you may see them, and you shall see only the outer part of them and shall not see them all. Therefore, curse them out of that place, for my sake.”

14 And he brought him into Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

15 Afterward, he said to Balak, “Stand here by your Burnt Offering, and I will meet the LORD yonder.”

16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put an answer in his mouth, and said, “Go again to Balak, and say this.”

17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his Burnt Offering, and the princes of Moab with him. So Balak said to him, “What has the LORD said?”

18 And he uttered his parable, and said, “Rise up Balak, and hear! Listen to me, you son of Zippor!

19 “God is not as man, that He should lie; nor as the son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and shall not do it? And has He spoken, and shall not accomplish it?

20 “Behold, I have received Commandment to bless. For He has blessed. And I cannot alter it.

21 “He sees no iniquity in Jacob or transgression in Israel. The LORD his God is with him, and the joyful shout of a King is among them.

22 “God brought them out of Egypt, their strength as a unicorn.

23 “For there is no sorcery in Jacob, nor soothsaying in Israel. According to this time it shall be said of Jacob, and of Israel, ‘What has God wrought?’

24 “Behold, the people shall rise up as a lion, and lift himself up as a young lion. He shall not lie down till he eats of the prey, and till he drinks the blood of the slain.”

25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse nor bless them at all.”

26 But Balaam answered, and said to Balak, “Did I not tell you, saying, ‘All that the LORD speaks, that must I do?’”

27 Again Balak said to Balaam, “Please come, I will bring you to another place if it pleases God that from there you may curse them for my sake.”

28 So Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks toward Jeshimon.

29 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Make seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bullocks for me here, and seven rams.

30 And Balak did as Balaam had said and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

24 When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, then he did not go, as certain times before, to set divinations. But set his face toward the wilderness.

And Balaam lifted up his eyes and looked upon Israel, which dwelt according to their tribe s. And the Spirit of God came upon him.

And he uttered his parable, and said, “Balaam, the son of Beor, has said, and the man whose eyes were shut up has said,

He who heard the words of God and who saw the vision of the Almighty and who fell and had his eyes opened, has said,

“How lovely are your tents, O Jacob, and your habitations, O Israel!

“As the valleys are they stretched forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the aloe trees which the LORD has planted, as the cedars beside the waters.

“The water drops out of His bucket, and His seed in many waters. And His King shall be higher than Agag. And His Kingdom shall be exalted.

“God brought him out of Egypt, his strength as a unicorn. He shall eat the nations, his enemies, and bruise their bones and shoot them through with his arrows.

“He crouches, lies down, as a young Lion, and as a Lion. Who shall stir him up? Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you.”

10 Then Balak was very angry with Balaam and clapped his hands. So Balak said to Balaam, “I sent for you to curse my enemies. And behold, you have blessed them now three times.

11 “Therefore, now, flee to your place! I thought surely to promote you to honor. But lo, the LORD has kept you back from honor.”

12 Then Balaam answered Balak, “Did I not tell your messengers whom you sent to me, saying,

13 ‘If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not surpass the Commandment of the LORD, to do good or bad of my own mind’? What the LORD shall Command, that same will I speak.

14 “And now, behold, I go to my people. Come, I will advise you what this people shall do to your folk in the latter days.”

15 And he uttered his parable, and said, “Balaam, the son of Beor, has said, and the man whose eyes were shut up has said,

16 “He who has heard the words of God, and has the knowledge of the most High, and saw the vision of the Almighty, and has fallen and had his eyes opened, has said,

17 “I shall see him, but not now. I shall behold him, but not near. There shall come a Star of Jacob. And a Scepter shall rise from Israel and shall strike the coasts of Moab and destroy all the sons of Sheth.

18 “And Edom shall be possessed and Seir shall be a possession to their enemies. But Israel shall do valiantly.

19 “He also who shall have dominion shall be of Jacob and shall destroy the remnant of the city.”

20 And when he looked at Amalek, he uttered his parable, and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations. But his latter end shall come to destruction.”

21 And he looked on the Kenites, and uttered his parable, and said, “Strong is your dwelling place. And put your nest in the Rock.

22 “Nevertheless, the Kenite shall be spoiled until Asshur carry you away captive.”

23 Again, he uttered his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?

24 “The ships also shall come from the coasts of Kittim and subdue Asshur and shall subdue Eber. And he also shall come to destruction.”

25 Then Balaam rose up and went and returned to his place. And Balak also went his way.

25 Now while Israel stayed in Shittim, the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab,

who called the people to the sacrifice of their gods. And the people ate and bowed down to their gods.

And Israel was coupled to Baal of Peor. Therefore, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

And the LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and hang them up before the LORD, out in the Sun, so that the indignation of the LORD’s wrath may be turned from Israel.”

Then Moses said to the Judges of Israel, “Everyone kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.”

And behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought a Midianitish woman to his brothers, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the Congregation of the children of Israel, who wept before the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the Priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the Congregation, and took a spear in his hand

and followed the man of Israel into the tent and thrust them both through, the man of Israel and the woman (through her belly). So, the plague ceased from the children of Israel.

And there died in that plague twenty-four thousand.

10 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

11 “Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the Priest, has turned My anger away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for My sake among them. Therefore, I have not consumed the children of Israel in My jealousy.

12 “Therefore, say, ‘Behold, I give to him My Covenant of Peace.

13 “‘And he shall have it, and his seed after him — the Covenant of the Priest’s office, forever — because he was zealous for his God, and has made an atonement for the children of Israel.’”

14 And the name of the Israelite who was killed with the Midianitish woman was Zimri, the son of Salu, prince of the family of the Simeonites.

15 And the name of the Midianitish woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur, who was head over the people of his father’s house in Midian.

16 Again, the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

17 “Harass the Midianites and strike them.

18 “For they trouble you with their craftiness, with which they have deceived you concerning Peor, and concerning their sister Cozbi, daughter of a Prince of Midian, who was killed on the day of the plague because of Peor.”

Mark 7:14-37

14 Then He called the whole multitude to Him, and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand!

15 “There is nothing outside of a man that can defile him when it enters into him. But the things which proceed out of him are those which defile the man.

16 “If any have ears to hear, let him hear.”

17 And when He came into a house, away from the people, his disciples asked Him about the parable.

18 And He said to them, “What? Are you without understanding also? Do you not know that whatever thing enters a man from outside cannot defile him,

19 “because it did not enter into his heart, but into the belly. And it goes out into the draught, which is the purging of all food?”

20 Then He said, “That which comes out of man, that defiles man.

21 “For from within, even out of the heart of man, proceeds evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22 “thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, uncleanness, a wicked eye, backbiting, pride, foolishness.

23 “All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

24 And from there, He rose and went into Tyre and Sidon, and entered into a house. And He would have preferred that no one should have known. But He could not be hidden.

25 For a certain woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of Him and came and fell at His feet

26 And the woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by nationality. And she begged Him to cast out the demon from her daughter.

27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children first be fed. For it is not good to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs.

28 Then she answered, and said to Him, “True, Lord. Indeed, even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.”

29 Then He said to her, “Because you have said this, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.”

30 And when she had come home to her house, she found the demon departed, and her daughter lying on the bed.

31 And He left the coasts of Tyre and Sidon and came to the Sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

32 And they brought to Him one who was deaf and stammered in his speech and asked him to put His hand upon Him.

33 Then He took him aside from the crowd, and put His fingers on his ears, and spat, and touched his tongue.

34 And looking up to Heaven, He sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha.” That is, “Be opened.”

35 And immediately his ears were opened. And his vocal chords were released. And he spoke plainly.

36 And He commanded them that they should tell no one. But as much as He forbade them, the more they proclaimed it.

37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well! He makes both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak!”
