Genesis 10-12

10 1 The increase of mankind by Noah and his sons. 10 The beginning of cities, countries, and nations.

Now these are the [a]generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth: unto whom sons were born after the flood.

The sons of Japheth were Gomer, and Magog, and [b]Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

And the sons of Gomer, Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

Also the sons of Javan, Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

Of these were the [c]isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands, every man after his tongue, and after their families in their nations.

¶ Moreover, the sons of Ham were [d]Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.

And the sons of Cush, Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: also the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

And Cush begat Nimrod, who began to be [e]mighty in the earth.

He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Wherefore it is said, [f]As Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.

10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of [g]Shinar.

11 Out of that land came Assyria, and built Nineveh, and the [h]city Rehoboth, and Calah:

12 Resen also between Nineveh and Calah: this is a great city.

13 And Mizraim begat [i]Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim.

14 Pathrusim also, and Casluhim (out of whom came the Philistines) and [j]Caphtorims.

15 Also Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth,

16 And Jebusi, and Emori, and Girgashi,

17 And Hivi, and Arki, and Sini,

18 And Arvadi, and Zemari, and Hamathi: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

19 Then the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar until Gaza, and as thou goest unto Sodom and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboiim, even unto Lasha.

20 These are the sons of Ham according to their families, according to their tongues in their countries, and in their nations.

21 ¶ Unto [k]Shem also the father of all the sons of [l]Eber, and elder brother of Japheth were children born.

22 (A)The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

23 And the sons of Aram, Uz and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

24 Also Arphaxad begat Salah, and Salah begat Eber.

25 Unto Eber also were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg: for in his days was the earth [m]divided: and his brother’s name was Joktan.

26 Then Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,

27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest up to Sephar, a mount of the East.

31 These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their tongues in their countries and nations.

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations among their people: and [n]out of these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

11 6 The building of Babel was the cause of the confusion of tongues. 10 The age and generation of Shem unto Abram. 31 Abram’s departure from Ur with his father Terah, Sarai and Lot. 32 The age and death of Terah.

Then the whole earth was of one language and one speech.

And [o]as [p]they went from the [q]East, they found a plain in the land of [r]Shinar, and there they abode.

And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick and burn it in the fire, so they had brick for stone, and slime had they instead of mortar.

Also they said, Go to, let us [s]build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto the heaven, that we may get us a name, lest we be scattered upon the whole earth.

But the Lord [t]came down, to see the city and tower which the sons of men built.

And the Lord said, [u]Behold, the people is one, and they all have one language, and this they begin to do, neither can they now be stopped from whatsoever they have imagined to do.

Come on, [v]let us go down, and [w]there confound their language, that everyone perceive not another’s speech.

So the Lord scattered them from thence upon all the earth, and they left off to build the city.

Therefore the name of it was called [x]Babel, because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: from thence then did the Lord scatter them upon all the earth.

10 (B)These are the generations [y]of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood.

11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

12 Also Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah.

13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah, four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber.

15 So Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

16 Likewise Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg.

17 So Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu.

19 (C)And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

20 Also Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug.

21 So Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

22 Moreover Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor.

23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah.

25 So Nahor lived after he begat Terah, an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

26 (D)So Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 ¶ Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat [z]Abram, Nahor, and Haran: and Haran begat Lot.

28 Then Haran died before Terah his father in the land of his nativity, in Ur of [aa]the Chaldeans.

29 So Abram and Nahor took them wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of [ab]Iscah.

30 But Sarai was barren, and had no child.

31 Then [ac]Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife: and they departed together from Ur of the Chaldeans, to (E)go into the land of Canaan, and they came to [ad]Haran, and dwelt there.

32 So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.

12 1 Abram by God’s commandment goeth to Canaan. 3 Christ is promised. 7 Abram buildeth Altars for exercise and declaration of his faith among the infidels. 10 Because of the dearth he goeth into Egypt. 15 Pharaoh taketh his wife, and is punished.

For the Lord had said unto Abram, (F)[ae]Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house unto [af]the land that I will show thee.

And I will make of thee a great nation, and will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a [ag]blessing.

I will also bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

So Abram departed, even as the Lord spake unto him, and Lot went with him, (and Abram was seventy and five years old, when he departed out of Haran)

Then Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they possessed, and the [ah]souls that they had gotten in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan, and to the land of Canaan they came.

¶ So Abram [ai]passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, and unto the [aj]plain of Moreh (and the [ak]Canaanite was then in the land)

And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land. And there built he [al]an altar unto the Lord, which appeared unto him.

Afterward removing [am]thence unto a mountain Eastward from Bethel, he pitched his tent having Bethel on the West side, and Ai on the East, and there he built an [an]altar unto the Lord, and called on the Name of the Lord.

[ao]Again Abram went forth going and journeying toward the South.

10 ¶ Then there came a [ap]famine in the land: therefore Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there: for there was a great famine in the land.

11 And when he drew near to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:

12 Therefore it will come to pass that when the Egyptians see thee, they will say, She is his wife: so will they kill me, but they will keep thee alive.

13 Say, I pray thee, that thou art my [aq]sister, that I may fare well for thy sake, and that my [ar]life may be preserved by thee.

14 ¶ Now when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman: for she was very fair.

15 And the Princes of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her unto Pharaoh: so the woman was [as]taken into Pharaoh’s house:

16 Who entreated Abram well for her sake, and he had sheep, and beeves, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.

17 But the Lord [at]plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues, because of Sarai Abram’s wife.

18 Then Pharaoh called Abram, and said, Why hast thou done this unto me? Wherefore diddest thou not tell me, that she was thy wife?

19 Why saidest thou, She is my sister, that I should take her to be my wife? Now therefore behold thy wife, take her and go thy way.

20 And Pharaoh gave men [au]commandment concerning him: and they conveyed him forth and his wife, and all that he had.

Matthew 4

1 Christ is tempted. 4 He vanquisheth the devil with Scripture. 11 The Angels minister unto him. 12 He preacheth repentance, and that himself is come. 18 The calling of Peter, Andrew. 21 James and John. 24 He preacheth the Gospel, and healeth the diseased.

Then (A)was [a]Jesus led aside of the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted of the devil.

And when he had fasted [b]forty days, and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.

Then came to him the tempter, and said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

But he answering, said, It is written, (B)Man shall not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on a [c]pinnacle of the Temple.

And said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, (C)that he will give his Angels charge over thee, and with their hands they shall lift thee up, lest at any time thou shouldest dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, (D)Thou shalt not [d]tempt the Lord thy God.

Again the devil took him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them,

And said to him, All these will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down, and worship me.

10 Then said Jesus unto him, Avoid Satan: for it is written, (E)Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 (F)Then the devil left him: and behold, the Angels came, and ministered unto him.

12 (G)[e]And when Jesus had heard that John was committed to prison, he returned into Galilee,

13 And leaving Nazareth, went and dwelt in [f]Capernaum, which is near the sea in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali,

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the Prophet, saying,

15 (H)The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali by the way of the [g]sea, beyond Jordan, [h]Galilee of the Gentiles:

16 The people which sat in darkness, saw great light: and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, light is risen up.

17 (I)From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Amend your lives: for the kingdom of heaven is at [i]hand.

18 [j]And Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee saw two brethren, Simon, which was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishers.)

19 (J)And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they straightway leaving the nets, followed him.

21 And when he was gone forth from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

22 And they without tarrying, leaving the ship and their father, followed him.

23 So [k]Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in [l]their [m]Synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the [n]kingdom, and healing [o]every sickness, and every [p]disease among the people.

24 And his fame spread abroad through all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people, that were taken with divers diseases, and [q]torments, and them that were possessed with devils, and those which were [r]lunatic, and those that had the [s]palsy: and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes out of Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond Jordan.
