Old/New Testament
34 5 Elihu chargeth Job, that he called himself righteous. 12 He showeth that God is just in his judgments. 24 God destroyeth the mighty. 30 By him the hypocrite reigneth.
1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,
2 Hear my words, ye [a]wise men, and hearken unto me ye that have knowledge.
3 For the ear trieth the words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
4 Let us seek [b]judgment among us, and let us know among ourselves what is good.
5 For Job hath said, I am righteous, and God hath taken [c]away my judgment.
6 Should I lie in my [d]right? my wound of the arrow is [e]grievous without my sin.
7 What man is like Job, that drinketh [f]scornfulness like water?
8 Which goeth in the [g]company of them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men?
9 For he hath said, It [h]profiteth a man nothing that he should [i]walk with God.
10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of wisdom, God forbid that wickedness should be in God, and iniquity in the Almighty.
11 For he will render unto man according to his work, and cause everyone to find according to his way.
12 And certainly God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13 Whom (A)hath he appointed over the earth besides himself? or who hath placed the whole world?
14 If [j]he set his heart upon man, and gather unto himself his spirit [k]and his breath,
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return unto dust.
16 And if thou hast understanding, hear this, and hearken to the voice of my words.
17 Shall he that hateth judgment, [l]govern? and wilt thou judge him wicked that is most just?
18 Wilt thou say unto a king, Thou art [m]wicked? or to princes, Ye are ungodly?
19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, and regardeth not the rich, more than the poor? for they be all the work of his hands.
20 They shall die suddenly, [n]and the people shall be troubled at midnight, [o]and they shall pass forth and take away the mighty without hand.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
22 There is no darkness nor shadow of death, that the workers of iniquity might be hid therein.
23 For he will not lay on man so much, that he should [p]enter into judgment with God.
24 He shall break the mighty without [q]seeking, and shall set up others in their stead.
25 Therefore shall he declare their [r]works: he shall turn the [s]night, and they shall be destroyed.
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the places of the [t]seers,
27 Because they have turned back from him, and would not consider all his ways:
28 So that they have caused the voice of the poor to [u]come unto him, and he hath heard the cry of the afflicted.
29 And when he giveth quietness, who can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who can behold him, whether it be upon nations, or upon a man only?
30 Because the [v]hypocrite doth reign, and because the people are snared.
31 Surely it appertaineth unto God [w]to say, I have pardoned, I will not destroy.
32 [x]But if I see not, teach thou me: if I have done wickedly, I will do no more.
33 Will he perform the thing through [y]thee? for thou hast reproved [z]it, because that thou hast chosen, and not I: now speak what thou knowest.
34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
35 Job hath not spoken of knowledge, neither were his words according to wisdom.
36 I desire that Job may be [aa]tried, unto the end, touching the answers for wicked men.
37 For he [ab]addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
35 6 Neither doth godliness profit, or ungodliness hurt God, but man. 13 The wicked cry unto God and are not heard.
1 Elihu spake moreover, and said,
2 Thinkest thou this right, that thou hast said, I am [ac]more righteous than God?
3 For thou hast said, What profiteth it thee, and what availeth it me, to purge me from my sin?
4 Therefore will I answer thee, and thy [ad]companions with thee.
5 Look unto the heaven, and see and behold the [ae]clouds which are higher than thou.
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou [af]against him, yea, when thy sins be many, what doest thou unto him?
7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou unto him? or what receiveth he at thine hand?
8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art: and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
9 They cause many that are oppressed, [ag]to cry, which cry out for the violence of the mighty.
10 But none saith, Where is God that made me, which giveth songs in the night?
11 Which teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and giveth us more wisdom than the fowls of the heaven.
12 Then they cry because of the violence of the wicked, [ah]but he answereth not.
13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
14 Although thou sayest to God, Thou wilt not regard it, [ai]yet judgment is before him: trust thou in him.
15 But now because his anger hath not visited, nor called to count the evil with great extremity,
16 Therefore Job [aj]openeth his mouth in vain, and multiplieth words without knowledge.
15 1 Certain go about to bring in circumcision at Antioch: 6 About which matter the Apostles consult: 19 and what must be done 23 they declare by letters. 36 Paul and Barnabas 39 are at great variance.
1 Then [a]came down [b]certain from Judea, and taught the brethren, saying, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
2 [c]And when there was great dissension, and disputation by Paul and Barnabas against them, they ordained that Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the Apostles and Elders about this question.
3 Thus [d]being brought forth by the Church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles, and they brought great joy unto all the brethren.
4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the Church, and of the Apostles and Elders, and they declared what things God had done by them.
5 But said they, certain of the sect of the Pharisees, which did believe, rose up, saying that it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the Law of Moses.
6 [e]Then the Apostles and Elders came together to look to this matter.
7 And when there had been great disputation, Peter rose up, and said unto them, (A)[f]Ye men and brethren, ye know that a [g]good while ago, among us God chose out me, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the Gospel, and believe.
8 And God which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, in giving unto them the holy Ghost even as he did unto us.
9 And he put no [h]difference between us and them, after that (B)[i]by faith he had purified their hearts.
10 [j]Now therefore, why [k]tempt ye God, to (C)lay a yoke on the disciples’ necks, which neither our fathers, nor we were able to bear?
11 But we believe, through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved, even as they do.
12 [l]Then all the multitude kept silence, and heard Barnabas and Paul, which told what signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles by them.
13 And when they held their peace, [m]James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me.
14 [n]Simeon hath declared, how God first did visit the Gentiles, to take of them a people unto his Name.
15 And to this agree the words of the Prophets, as it is written,
16 (D)After this I will return, and will build again the Tabernacle of David, which is fallen down, and the ruins thereof will I build again, and I will set it up.
17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles upon whom my Name is called, saith the Lord which doeth all these things.
18 From the beginning of the world, God [o]knoweth all his works.
19 [p]Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them of the Gentiles that are turned to God,
20 But that we send unto them, that they abstain themselves from [q]filthiness of idols, and fornication, and that is strangled, and from blood.
21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, seeing he is read in the Synagogues every Sabbath day.
