Old/New Testament
Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.
116 (A)I love the Lord, because He (B)hears
My voice and my pleas.
2 Because He has (C)inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
3 The (D)snares of death encompassed me
And the [a]terrors of [b]Sheol [c]came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
4 Then (E)I called upon the name of the Lord:
“Please, Lord, (F)save my [d]life!”
5 (G)Gracious is the Lord, and (H)righteous;
Yes, our God is (I)compassionate.
6 The Lord watches over (J)the simple;
I was (K)brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your (L)rest, my soul,
For the Lord has (M)dealt generously with you.
8 For You have (N)rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from stumbling.
9 I shall walk before the Lord
In the [e](O)land of the living.
10 I (P)believed when I said,
“I am (Q)greatly afflicted.”
11 I (R)said in my alarm,
“(S)All people are liars.”
12 What shall I (T)repay to the Lord
For all His (U)benefits [f]to me?
13 I will lift up the (V)cup of salvation,
And (W)call upon the name of the Lord.
14 I will (X)pay my vows to the Lord;
May it be (Y)in the presence of all His people!
15 (Z)Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.
16 O Lord, [g]I surely am (AA)Your slave,
I am Your slave, the (AB)son of Your female slave,
You have (AC)unfastened my restraints.
17 I will offer You (AD)a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And (AE)call upon the name of the Lord.
18 I will (AF)pay my vows to the Lord,
May it be in the presence of all His people,
19 In the (AG)courtyards of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, (AH)Jerusalem!
[h]Praise [i]the Lord!
A Psalm of Praise.
117 (AI)Praise the Lord, all nations;
Sing His praises, all peoples!
2 For His (AJ)mercy toward us is [j]great,
And the [k](AK)truth of the Lord is everlasting.
[l]Praise [m]the Lord!
Thanksgiving for the Lord’s Saving Goodness.
118 (AL)Give thanks to the Lord, for (AM)He is good;
For His mercy is everlasting.
2 Let (AN)Israel say,
“His mercy is everlasting.”
3 Oh let the (AO)house of Aaron say,
“His mercy is everlasting.”
4 Let those (AP)who [n]fear the Lord say,
“His mercy is everlasting.”
5 From my (AQ)distress I called upon [o]the Lord;
[p]The Lord answered me and (AR)put me in an open space.
6 The Lord is (AS)for me; I will (AT)not fear;
(AU)What can man do to me?
7 The Lord is for me (AV)among those who help me;
Therefore I will (AW)look with satisfaction on those who hate me.
8 It is (AX)better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in people.
9 It is (AY)better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in noblemen.
10 All nations (AZ)surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will certainly (BA)fend them off.
11 They (BB)surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will certainly fend them off.
12 They surrounded me (BC)like bees;
They were extinguished like a (BD)fire of thorn bushes;
In the name of the Lord I will certainly fend them off.
13 You (BE)pushed me violently so that I [q]was falling,
But the Lord (BF)helped me.
14 [r](BG)The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become (BH)my salvation.
15 The sound of (BI)joyful shouting and salvation is in the tents of the righteous;
The (BJ)right hand of the Lord performs valiantly.
16 The (BK)right hand of the Lord is exalted;
The right hand of the Lord performs valiantly.
17 I (BL)will not die, but live,
And (BM)tell of the works of [s]the Lord.
18 [t]The Lord has (BN)disciplined me severely,
But He has (BO)not turned me over to death.
19 (BP)Open the gates of righteousness to me;
I will enter through them, I will give thanks to [u]the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord;
The (BQ)righteous will enter through it.
21 I will give thanks to You, for You have (BR)answered me,
And You have (BS)become my salvation.
22 A (BT)stone which the builders rejected
Has become the [v]chief cornerstone.
23 This came about from the Lord;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let’s (BU)rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Please, O Lord, (BV)do save us;
Please, O Lord, do send (BW)prosperity!
26 (BX)Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord;
We have (BY)blessed you from the house of the Lord.
27 (BZ)The Lord is God, and He has given us (CA)light;
Bind the festival sacrifice [w]to the (CB)horns of the altar with cords.
28 (CC)You are my God, and I give thanks to You;
You are my God, (CD)I exalt You.
29 (CE)Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His mercy is everlasting.
Teaching on Marriage
7 Now concerning the things about which you wrote, it is (A)good for a man [a]not to touch a woman. 2 But because of sexual immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband. 3 The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise the wife also to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise the husband also does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 [b](B)Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and [c]come together again so that (C)Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6 But this I say by way of concession, (D)not of command. 7 [d]Yet I wish that all [e]men were (E)even as I myself am. However, (F)each has his own gift from God, one in this way, and another in that.
8 But I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is (G)good for them if they remain (H)even as I. 9 But if they do not have self-control, (I)let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
10 But to the married I give instructions, (J)not I, but the Lord, that the wife is not to leave her husband 11 (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband is not to [f]divorce his wife.
12 But to the rest (K)I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, he must not [g]divorce her. 13 And [h]if any woman has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, she must not [i]divorce her husband. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through [j]her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are (L)holy. 15 Yet if the unbelieving one is leaving, [k]let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called [l]us (M)in peace. 16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will (N)save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
17 Only, (O)as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this way let him walk. And (P)so I direct in (Q)all the churches. 18 Was any man called when he was already circumcised? He is not to become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? (R)He is not to be circumcised. 19 (S)Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is (T)the keeping of the commandments of God.
