Version
Psalm 129-131

Prayer for the Overthrow of Zion’s Enemies.

A Song of Ascents.

129 [a]Many times they have [b](A)persecuted me from my (B)youth up,”
(C)Let Israel now say,
[c]Many times they have [d]persecuted me from my youth up;
Yet they have (D)not prevailed against me.
“The plowers plowed upon my back;
They lengthened their furrows.”
The Lord (E)is righteous;
He has cut in two the (F)cords of the wicked.

May all who (G)hate Zion
Be (H)put to shame and turned backward;
Let them be like (I)grass upon the housetops,
Which withers before it [e]grows up;
With which the reaper does not fill his [f]hand,
Or the binder of sheaves his (J)bosom;
Nor do those who pass by say,
“The (K)blessing of the Lord be upon you;
We bless you in the name of the Lord.”

Hope in the Lord’s Forgiving Love.

A Song of Ascents.

130 Out of the (L)depths I have cried to You, O Lord.
Lord, (M)hear my voice!
Let (N)Your ears be attentive
To the (O)voice of my supplications.
If You, [g]Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could (P)stand?
But there is (Q)forgiveness with You,
That You may be (R)feared.

I wait for the Lord, my (S)soul does wait,
And [h](T)in His word do I hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than the watchmen (U)for the morning;
Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.
O Israel, (V)hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is (W)lovingkindness,
And with Him is (X)abundant redemption.
And He will (Y)redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Childlike Trust in the Lord.

A Song of Ascents, of David.

131 O Lord, my heart is not (Z)proud, nor my eyes [i](AA)haughty;
Nor do I [j]involve myself in (AB)great matters,
Or in things (AC)too [k]difficult for me.
Surely I have (AD)composed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned (AE)child rests [l]against his mother,
My soul is like a weaned child [m]within me.
O Israel, (AF)hope in the Lord
(AG)From this time forth and forever.

1 Corinthians 11:1-16

Christian Order

11 (A)Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

Now (B)I praise you because you (C)remember me in everything and (D)hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. But I want you to understand that [a]Christ is the (E)head of every man, and (F)the man is the head of a woman, and God is the (G)head of [b]Christ. Every man who has something on his head while praying or (H)prophesying disgraces his head. But every (I)woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman [c]whose head is (J)shaved. For if a woman does not cover [d]her head, let her also [e]have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to [f]have her hair cut off or [g]her head shaved, let her cover [h]her head. For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the (K)image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For (L)man [i]does not originate from woman, but woman from man; for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but (M)woman for the man’s sake. 10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 However, in the Lord, neither is woman [j]independent of man, nor is man [k]independent of woman. 12 For as the woman [l]originates from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and (N)all things [m]originate (O)from God. 13 (P)Judge [n]for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, 15 but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if one is inclined to be contentious, (Q)we have no [o]other practice, nor have (R)the churches of God.
