Old/New Testament
6 An exhortation to the dumb creatures to hear the judgment against Israel being unkind. 6 What manner of sacrifices do please God.
1 Hearken ye now what the Lord saith, Arise thou, and contend before the [a]mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
2 Hear ye, O mountains, the Lord’s quarrel, and ye mighty foundations of the earth: for the Lord hath a quarrel against his people, and he will plead with Israel.
3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? or wherein have I grieved thee? testify against me.
4 Surely I [b]brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants, and I have sent before thee, Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab had devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from [c]Shittim unto Gilgal, that ye may know the [d]righteousness of the Lord.
6 Wherewith [e]shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, and with calves of a year old?
7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousand rivers of oil? shall I give my [f]firstborn for my transgression, even the fruit of my body, for the sin of my soul?
8 He hath showed thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: [g]surely to do justly, and to love mercy, and to humble thyself, to walk with thy God.
9 The Lord’s voice crieth unto the [h]city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: Hear the rod, and who hath appointed it.
10 Are yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure, that is abominable?
11 Shall I justify the wicked balances, and the bag of deceitful weights?
12 For the rich men thereof [i]are full of cruelty, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
13 Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, and in making thee desolate, because of thy sins.
14 Thou shalt eat and not be satisfied, and [j]thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee, and thou [k]shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver, and that which thou deliverest, will I give up to the sword.
15 Thou shalt sow, but not reap: Thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil, and make sweet wine, but shall not drink wine.
16 For the [l]statutes of Omri are kept, and all the manner of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels, that I should make thee waste, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.
7 1 A complaint for the small number of the righteous. 4 The wickedness of those times. 14 The prosperity of the Church.
1 Woe is me, for I am as the [m]Summer gatherings, and as the grapes of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the first ripe fruits.
2 The good man is perished out of the earth, and there is none righteous among men: [n]they all lie in wait for blood: every man hunteth his brother with a net.
3 To make good for the evil of their hands, the prince asked, and the judge judgeth for a reward: therefore the [o]great man he speaketh out the corruption of his soul: so [p]they wrapped it up.
4 The best of them is as [q]a brier, and the most righteous of them is sharper than a thorn-hedge: the day of [r]thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh: then shall be their confusion.
5 Trust ye not in a friend, neither put ye confidence in a counselor: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.
6 For the son revileth the father: the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.
7 Therefore [s]I will look unto the Lord: I will wait for God my Savior: my God will hear me.
8 Rejoice not against me, [t]O mine enemy: though I fall, I shall arise, when I shall sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.
9 I will bear the wrath of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: then will he bring me forth to the light, and I shall see his righteousness.
10 Then she that is mine enemy, shall look upon it, and shame shall cover her, which said unto me, Where is the Lord thy God? Mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.
11 This is [u]the day, that thy walls shall be built: this day shall drive far away [v]the decree.
12 In this day also they shall come unto thee from [w]Assyria, and from the strong cities, and from the strongholds even unto the river, and from Sea to Sea, and from mountain to mountain.
13 Notwithstanding the land shall be desolate because of them that dwell therein, and for the fruits of [x]their inventions.
14 [y]Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thine heritage (which dwell solitary in the wood) as in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in old time.
15 [z]According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt, will I show unto him marvelous things.
16 The nations shall see, and be confounded for all their power: they shall [aa]lay their hand upon their mouth: [ab]their ears shall be deaf.
17 They shall [ac]lick the dust like a serpent: they shall move out of their holes like worms: they shall be afraid of the Lord our God, and shall fear because of thee.
18 Who is a God like unto thee, that taketh away iniquity, and [ad]passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage! He retaineth not his wrath forever, because mercy pleaseth him.
19 He will turn again, and have compassion upon us: he will subdue our iniquities, and cast all [ae]their sins into the bottom of the sea.
20 Thou wilt perform thy [af]truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as thou hast sworn unto our fathers in old time.
13 1 The beast with many heads is described 12 which draweth the most part of the world to idolatry. 13 The other beast rising out of the earth, 15 giveth power unto him.
1 And I [a]saw a beast rise [b]out of the sea, having seven heads, and [c]ten horns, and upon his horns were ten crowns, and [d]upon his head [e]the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was [f]like a leopard, and his feet like a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a Lion: [g]and the dragon gave him his power and his throne, and great authority.
3 [h]And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death, but his deadly wound was healed, and all the world wondered and followed the beast.
4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast, and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast! who is able to war with him!
5 [i]And there was given unto him a mouth, that spake great things and blasphemies, and power was given unto him, [j]to do two and forty months.
6 And he opened his mouth unto blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his Name, [k]and his tabernacle, [l]and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the Saints, and to overcome them, and power was given him over every kindred, and tongue, and nation.
8 Therefore all that dwell upon the earth, shall worship him, [m]whose names are not written in the book of life of that Lamb, which was slain from the beginning of the world.
9 [n]If any man have an ear let him hear.
10 If any lead into captivity, he shall go into captivity: (A)if any kill with a sword, he must be killed by a sword: here is the patience and the faith of the Saints.
11 [o]And I beheld, another beast coming out of the earth, [p]which had two horns like the Lamb, but he spake like the dragon.
12 [q]And he did all that the first beast could do before him, and he caused the earth and them which dwell therein, [r]to worship the first beast whose deadly wound was healed.
13 [s]And he did great wonders, so that he made fire to come down from heaven on the earth, in the sight of men.
14 And deceived them that dwell on the earth by the signs which were permitted to him to do in the sight of the beast, saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make the [t]image of the [u]beast, which had the wound of a sword, and did live.
15 [v]And it was permitted to him to give a [w]spirit unto the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast should speak, and should cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 [x]And he made all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive [y]a [z]mark in their right hand or in their foreheads.
17 And that no man might [aa]buy or sell, save he that had the [ab]mark or the name of the beast or the number of his name.
18 [ac]Here is wisdom. Let him that hath wit, count the number of the beast: for it is the [ad]number of a man, and his number is six hundred threescore and six.
