Old/New Testament
113 1 An exhortation to praise the Lord for his providence 7 in that that contrary to the course of nature he worketh in his Church.
Praise ye the Lord.
1 Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, [a]praise the Name of the Lord.
2 Blessed be the Name of the Lord from henceforth and forever.
3 The Lord’s Name is praised from the rising of the sun, unto the going down of the same.
4 The Lord is high above all [b]nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the Lord our God, that hath his dwelling on high.
6 Who abaseth himself to behold things in the heavens and in the earth!
7 He raiseth the needy out of the dust, and lifteth up the [c]poor out of the dung,
8 That he may set him with the princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He maketh the barren woman to dwell with a family, and a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.
114 1 How the Israelites were delivered forth of Egypt, and of the wonderful miracles that God wrought at that time. Which put us in remembrance of God’s great mercy toward his Church, who when the course of nature faileth, preserveth his miraculously.
1 When (A)Israel went out of Egypt, and the house of Jacob from the [d]barbarous people,
2 Judah was his [e]sanctification, and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was turned back.
4 The [f]mountains leaped like rams, and the hills as lambs!
5 What ailed thee, O sea, that thou fleddest? O Jordan, why wast thou turned back?
6 Ye mountains why leaped ye like rams, and ye hills as lambs?
7 The [g]earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 Which [h]turneth the rock into waterpools, and the flint into a fountain of water.
115 1 A prayer of the faithful oppressed by idolatrous tyrants, against whom they desire that God would succor them, 9 trusting most constantly that God will preserve them in this their need, seeing, that he hath adopted and received them into his favor. 13 Promising finally that they will not be unmindful of so great a benefit if it would please God to hear their prayer, and deliver them by his omnipotent power.
1 Not [i]unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy Name give the glory for thy loving mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
2 Wherefore shall the heathen say, [j]Where is now their God?
3 But our God is in heaven: he doeth whatsoever he [k]will.
4 Their idols are [l]silver and gold, even the work of men’s hands.
5 They have a mouth, and speak not: they have eyes, and see not.
6 They have ears, and hear not: they have noses and smell not.
7 They have [m]hands, and touch not: they have feet, and walk not: neither make they a sound with their throat.
8 They that make them are [n]like unto them: so are all that trust in them.
9 O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: for he is their help, and their shield.
10 [o]O house of Aaron trust ye in the Lord, for he is their help, and their shield.
11 Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: for he is their helper, and their shield.
12 The Lord hath been mindful of us, he will bless, he [p]will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.
14 The Lord will increase his graces toward you, even toward you, and toward your children.
15 Ye are blessed of the Lord, which [q]made the heaven and the earth.
16 The [r]heavens, even the heavens are the Lord’s: but he hath given the earth to the sons of men.
17 The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that [s]go down into the place of silence.
18 But we will praise the Lord from henceforth and forever. Praise ye the Lord.
6 1 He inveigheth against their contention in law matters, 6 wherewith they vexed one another under judges that were infidels, to the reproach of the Gospel, 9 and then sharply threateneth fornicators.
1 Dare [a][b]any of you, having business against another, be judged [c]under the unjust, [d]and not under the Saints?
2 [e]Do ye not know that the Saints shall judge the world? If the world then shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge the Angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4 [f]If then ye have [g]judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them up which are [h]least esteemed in the Church.
5 [i]I speak it to your shame. Is it so that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one, that can judge between his brethren?
6 But a brother goeth to law with a brother, and that under the infidels.
7 [j]Now therefore there is altogether [k]infirmity in you, that ye go to law one with another: (A)[l]why rather suffer ye not wrong? why rather sustain ye not harm?
8 (B)Nay, ye yourselves do wrong, and do harm, and that to your brethren.
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? [m]Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor wantons, nor buggerers,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were (C)some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified, in the [n]Name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
12 ¶ (D)[o][p]All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not profitable. I may do all things, but I will not be brought under the [q]power of any thing.
13 [r]Meats are ordained for the belly, and the belly for the meats: but God shall destroy both it, and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God hath also raised up the Lord, and (E)shall raise us up by his power.
15 [s]Know ye not, that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 [t]Do ye not know, that he which coupleth himself with an harlot, is one body? (F)for [u]two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord, is one spirit.
18 [v]Flee fornication: every sin that a man doeth, is without the body: but he that commiteth fornication, sinneth against his own body.
19 [w]Know ye not, that (G)your body is the temple of the holy Ghost, which is in you, whom ye have of God? and [x]ye are not your own.
20 (H)For ye are bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit: for they are God’s.
