Psalm 20-22

We Will Boast in the Name of Yahweh

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

20 May Yahweh answer you (A)in the day of distress!
May the (B)name of the (C)God of Jacob set you securely on high!
May He send you help (D)from the sanctuary
And (E)uphold you from Zion!
May He (F)remember all your meal offerings
And (G)find your burnt offering [a]acceptable! [b]Selah.

May He grant you your (H)heart’s desire
And (I)fulfill all your [c]counsel!
[d]We will (J)sing for joy over your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will (K)set up our banners.
May Yahweh (L)fulfill all your petitions.

Now (M)I know that Yahweh saves His anointed;
He will (N)answer him from His holy heaven
With the [e](O)saving might of His right hand.
Some boast in chariots and some in (P)horses,
But (Q)we will [f]boast in the name of Yahweh, our God.
They have (R)bowed down and fallen,
But we have (S)risen and stood upright.
[g](T)Save, O Yahweh;
May the (U)King answer us in the day we call.

The King Trusts in Yahweh

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

21 O Yahweh, in Your strength the king will (V)be glad,
And in Your [h]salvation how greatly he will rejoice!
You have (W)given him his heart’s desire,
And You have not withheld the request of his lips. [i]Selah.
For You (X)meet him with the blessings of good things;
You set a (Y)crown of fine gold on his head.
He asked life of You,
You (Z)gave it to him,
(AA)Length of days forever and ever.
His (AB)glory is great through Your [j]salvation,
(AC)Splendor and majesty You bestow upon him.
For You make him [k]most (AD)blessed forever;
You make him joyful (AE)with gladness in Your presence.

For the king (AF)trusts in Yahweh,
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High (AG)he will not be shaken.
Your hand will (AH)find out all your enemies;
Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
You will make them (AI)as a fiery oven in the time of your [l]anger;
Yahweh will (AJ)swallow them up in His wrath,
And (AK)fire will devour them.
10 Their [m]offspring You will destroy from the earth,
And their (AL)seed from among the sons of men.
11 Though they [n](AM)intended evil against You
And (AN)devised a scheme,
They will not succeed.
12 For You will (AO)make them turn their back;
You will [o]aim (AP)with Your bowstrings at their faces.
13 Be exalted, O Yahweh, in Your strength;
We will (AQ)sing and praise Your might.

Why Have You Forsaken Me?

For the choir director. According to [p]Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David.

22 (AR)My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
[q](AS)Far from my salvation are the words of my [r](AT)groaning.
O my God, I (AU)call by day, but You do not answer;
And by night, but [s]I have no rest.
Yet (AV)You are holy,
[t]Enthroned upon (AW)the praises of Israel.
In You our fathers (AX)trusted;
They trusted and You (AY)rescued them.
To You they cried out and were granted escape;
(AZ)In You they trusted and were not [u]disappointed.

But I am a (BA)worm and not a man,
A (BB)reproach of men and (BC)despised by the people.
All who see me (BD)mock me;
They [v]smack their lip, they (BE)wag their head, saying,
[w]Commit yourself to Yahweh; (BF)let Him rescue him;
Let Him deliver him, because He delights in him.”

Yet You are He who (BG)brought me out of the womb;
You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.
10 Upon You I was cast (BH)from [x]birth;
You have been my God from my mother’s womb.

11 (BI)Be not far from me, for [y]distress is near;
For there is (BJ)none to help.
12 Many (BK)bulls have surrounded me;
Strong bulls of (BL)Bashan have encircled me.
13 They (BM)open wide their mouth at me,
As a (BN)lion that tears and roars.
14 I am (BO)poured out like water,
And all my (BP)bones are out of joint;
My (BQ)heart is like wax;
It is melted within [z]me.
15 My (BR)strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And (BS)my tongue cleaves to my jaws;
And You (BT)lay me [aa]in the dust of death.
16 For (BU)dogs have surrounded me;
[ab]A band of evildoers has encompassed me;
[ac]They (BV)pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I count all my bones.
(BW)They look, they stare at me;
18 They (BX)divide my garments among them,
And for my clothing they cast lots.

19 But You, O Yahweh, (BY)be not far off;
O my Strength, (BZ)hasten to my help.
20 Deliver my [ad]soul from (CA)the sword,
My (CB)only life from the [ae]power of the dog.
21 Save me from the mouth of the (CC)lion;
From the horns of the (CD)wild oxen You (CE)have answered me.

22 I will surely (CF)recount Your name to my brothers;
In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.
23 (CG)You who fear Yahweh, praise Him;
All you seed of Jacob, (CH)glorify Him,
And (CI)stand in awe of Him, all you seed of Israel.
24 For He has (CJ)not despised and He has not abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
And He has not (CK)hidden His face from him;
But (CL)when he cried to Him for help, He heard.

25 Of You is (CM)my praise in the great assembly;
I shall (CN)pay my vows before those who fear Him.
26 The [af]afflicted will eat and (CO)be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will (CP)praise Yahweh.
May your (CQ)heart live forever!
27 All the (CR)ends of the earth will remember and turn to Yahweh,
And all the (CS)families of the nations will worship before [ag]You.
28 For the (CT)kingdom is Yahweh’s
And He (CU)rules over the nations.
29 All the [ah](CV)prosperous of the earth will eat and worship,
All those who (CW)go down to the dust will bow before Him,
Even he who [ai](CX)cannot keep his soul alive.
30 (CY)Their seed will serve Him;
It will be recounted about the Lord to (CZ)the coming generation.
31 They will come and (DA)will declare His righteousness
To a people (DB)who will be born, that He has done it.

Acts 21:1-17

Paul Sets Out for Jerusalem

21 Now when (A)we had parted from them and had set sail, we came by (B)a straight course to Cos and the next day to Rhodes and from there to Patara; and having found a ship crossing over to (C)Phoenicia, we went aboard and set sail. And when we came in sight of (D)Cyprus, leaving it on the left, we kept sailing to (E)Syria and landed at (F)Tyre; for there the ship was to unload its cargo. And after looking up (G)the disciples, we stayed there seven days; and they kept telling Paul (H)through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem. And when [a]our days there were ended, we left and started on our journey, while they all, with wives and children, (I)escorted us until we were out of the city. After (J)kneeling down on the beach and praying, we said farewell to one another. Then we went on board the ship, and they returned (K)home again.

And when we had finished the voyage from (L)Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and after greeting (M)the brothers, we stayed with them for a day. And on the next day we left and came to (N)Caesarea, and entering the house of (O)Philip the (P)evangelist, who was (Q)one of the seven, we stayed with him. Now this man had four virgin daughters who (R)prophesied. 10 And as we were staying there for some days, a prophet named (S)Agabus came down from Judea. 11 And coming to us, he (T)took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, “This (U)is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will (V)bind the man who owns this belt and (W)deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’” 12 And when we had heard this, we as well as the local residents began begging him (X)not to go up to Jerusalem. 13 Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, crying and breaking my heart? For (Y)I am ready not only to be bound, but even to die at Jerusalem for (Z)the name of the Lord Jesus.” 14 And since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, saying, “(AA)The will of the Lord be done!”

15 Now after these days we got ready and (AB)started on our way up to Jerusalem. 16 And some of (AC)the disciples from (AD)Caesarea also came with us, taking us to Mnason of (AE)Cyprus, an (AF)early disciple with whom we were to lodge.

In Jerusalem

17 And after we arrived in Jerusalem, (AG)the brothers welcomed us gladly.
