10 Moreover, brothers, I do not wish you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

² and were all baptized unto Moses, in the cloud, and in the sea.

³ And all ate the same spiritual food.

⁴ And all drank the same spiritual drink (for they drank of the spiritual Rock that followed them. And the Rock was Christ.)

⁵ But with many of them God was not pleased. For they were overthrown in the wilderness.

⁶ Now these things are our examples, to the intent that we should not also lust after evil things as they lusted,

⁷ nor be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”

⁸ Nor let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication. And twenty-three thousand fell in one day.

⁹ Nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted Him, and were destroyed by serpents.

¹⁰ Nor murmur, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

¹¹ Now all these things came to them for examples, and were written to admonish us, upon whom the ends of the world have come.

¹² Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed, lest he fall.

¹³ No trial has overtaken you except what is common to man. And God is faithful, Who will not allow you to be tried above that which you are able, but will also give you a means of escape with the trial, that you may be able to bear it.

¹⁴ Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

¹⁵ I speak as to those who have understanding. Judge what I say.

¹⁶ The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

¹⁷ For we who are many, are one bread and one body, because we are all partakers of one bread.

¹⁸ Behold Israel according to the flesh. Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the Altar?
