New English Translation (NET)
Version
Acts 23:16-35

16 But when the son of Paul’s sister heard about the ambush,[a] he came and entered[b] the barracks[c] and told Paul. 17 Paul called[d] one of the centurions[e] and said, “Take this young man to the commanding officer,[f] for he has something to report to him.” 18 So the centurion[g] took him and brought him to the commanding officer[h] and said, “The prisoner Paul called[i] me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.” 19 The commanding officer[j] took him by the hand, withdrew privately, and asked, “What is it that you want[k] to report to me?” 20 He replied,[l] “The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council[m] tomorrow, as if they were going to inquire more thoroughly about him. 21 So do not let them persuade you to do this,[n] because more than forty of them[o] are lying in ambush[p] for him. They[q] have bound themselves with an oath[r] not to eat or drink anything[s] until they have killed him, and now they are ready, waiting for you to agree to their request.”[t] 22 Then the commanding officer[u] sent the young man away, directing him,[v] “Tell no one that you have reported[w] these things to me.” 23 Then[x] he summoned[y] two of the centurions[z] and said, “Make ready 200 soldiers to go to Caesarea[aa] along with 70 horsemen[ab] and 200 spearmen[ac] by[ad] nine o’clock tonight,[ae] 24 and provide mounts for Paul to ride[af] so that he may be brought safely to Felix[ag] the governor.”[ah] 25 He wrote[ai] a letter that went like this:[aj]

26 Claudius Lysias to His Excellency Governor[ak] Felix,[al] greetings. 27 This man was seized[am] by the Jews and they were about to kill him,[an] when I came up[ao] with the detachment[ap] and rescued him, because I had learned that he was[aq] a Roman citizen.[ar] 28 Since I wanted to know[as] what charge they were accusing him of,[at] I brought him down to their council.[au] 29 I found he[av] was accused with reference to controversial questions[aw] about their law, but no charge against him deserved death or imprisonment.[ax] 30 When I was informed[ay] there would be a plot[az] against this man, I sent him to you at once, also ordering his accusers to state their charges[ba] against him before you.

31 So the soldiers, in accordance with their orders,[bb] took[bc] Paul and brought him to Antipatris[bd] during the night. 32 The next day they let[be] the horsemen[bf] go on with him, and they returned to the barracks.[bg] 33 When the horsemen[bh] came to Caesarea[bi] and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented[bj] Paul to him. 34 When the governor[bk] had read[bl] the letter,[bm] he asked[bn] what province he was from.[bo] When he learned[bp] that he was from Cilicia,[bq] 35 he said, “I will give you a hearing[br] when your accusers arrive too.” Then[bs] he ordered that Paul[bt] be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.[bu]
