M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
4 And it came to pass, when all the people had clean passed over the Jordan, that the Lord spoke unto Joshua, saying,
2 “Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,
3 and command ye them, saying, ‘Take you hence out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones; and ye shall carry them over with you and leave them in the lodging place where ye shall lodge this night.’”
4 Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man.
5 And Joshua said unto them, “Pass over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel,
6 that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What mean ye by these stones?’
7 then ye shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord: when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.”
8 And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the Lord spoke unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
9 And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there unto this day.
10 For the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the Lord commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hastened and passed over.
11 And it came to pass, when all the people had clean passed over, that the ark of the Lord passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
12 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke unto them.
13 About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the Lord unto battle to the plains of Jericho.
14 On that day the Lord magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
15 And the Lord spoke unto Joshua, saying,
16 “Command the priests who bear the ark of the Testimony that they come up out of the Jordan.”
17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come ye up out of the Jordan.”
18 And it came to pass, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord had come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
19 And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month and encamped in Gilgal on the east border of Jericho.
20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan did Joshua set up in Gilgal.
21 And he spoke unto the children of Israel, saying, “When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What mean these stones?’
22 then ye shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.’
23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until ye had passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up from before us until we had gone over,
24 that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.”
129 “Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth”—may Israel now say—
2 “many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.”
4 The Lord is righteous; He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
5 Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.
6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth before it groweth up,
7 wherewith the mower filleth not his hand, nor he that bindeth sheaves, his bosom.
8 Neither do those who go by say, “The blessing of the Lord be upon you; we bless you in the name of the Lord.”
130 Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3 If Thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared.
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope.
6 My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning— I say, more than they that watch for the morning.
7 Let Israel hope in the Lord, for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption.
8 And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
131 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself with great matters, or in things too high for me.
2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself as a child that is weaned from his mother; my soul is even as a weaned child.
3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.
64 Oh, that Thou wouldest rend the heavens, that Thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at Thy presence—
2 as when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil— to make Thy name known to Thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Thy presence!
3 When Thou didst fearsome things which we looked not for, Thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at Thy presence.
4 For since the beginning of the world men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, besides thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him.
5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember Thee in Thy ways. Behold, Thou art wroth, for we have sinned; in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
7 And there is none that calleth upon Thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of Thee; for Thou hast hid Thy face from us, and hast consumed us because of our iniquities.
8 But now, O Lord, Thou art our Father; we are the clay, and Thou our potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand.
9 Be not sorely wroth, O Lord, neither remember iniquity for ever; behold, see, we beseech Thee, we are all Thy people.
10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.
11 Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised Thee, is burned up with fire; and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
12 Wilt Thou refrain Thyself for these things, O Lord? Wilt Thou hold Thy peace and afflict us very sore?
12 At that time, Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn; and His disciples were hungry and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto Him, “Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day.”
3 But He said unto them, “Have ye not read what David did when he hungered and they that were with him:
4 how he entered into the house of God and ate the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law how on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, that in this place is One greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, ‘I will have mercy and not sacrifice,’ ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day.”
9 And when He had departed thence, He went into their synagogue.
10 And behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days?” — that they might accuse Him.
11 And He said unto them, “What man shall there be among you that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day, will not lay hold on it and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days.”
13 Then He said to the man, “Stretch forth thine hand.” And he stretched it forth, and it was restored whole like the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out and held a council against Him, how they might destroy Him.
15 But when Jesus knew of it, He withdrew Himself from thence. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.
16 And He charged them that they should not make Him known,
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,
18 “Behold My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased: I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall show judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive nor cry, neither shall any man hear His voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall He not break, and smoking flax shall He not quench till He send forth judgment unto victory;
21 and in His name shall the Gentiles trust.”
22 Then was brought unto Him one possessed with a devil, blind and dumb; and He healed him, so that the blind and dumb both spoke and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed and said, “Is not this the Son of David?”
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This fellow doth not cast out devils, except by Beelzebub, the prince of devils.”
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts and said unto them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then shall his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house and despoil his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? And then he will despoil his house.
30 “He that is not with Me is against Me, and he that gathereth not with Me scattereth abroad.
31 Therefore I say unto you, all manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men, but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
33 Either make the tree good and his fruit good, or else make the tree corrupt and his fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by his fruit.
34 “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, “Master, we would see a sign from thee.”
39 But He answered and said unto them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah.
40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in the Judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the Judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, ‘I will return into my house from whence I came out.’ And when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”
46 While He yet talked to the people, behold, His mother and His brethren stood outside, desiring to speak with Him.
47 Then one said unto Him, “Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand outside, desiring to speak with thee.”
48 But He answered and said unto him that told Him, “Who is My mother? And who are My brethren?”
49 And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples and said, “Behold, My mother and My brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of My Father who is in Heaven, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother.”
