2 Kings 3

1 The reign of Jehoram. 6 He and Jehoshaphat go to war against Moab which rebelled. 13 Elisha reproveth him, 17 and giveth their hosts water. 24 The Moabites are overcome. 27 Their King sacrificeth his son.

Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria, the [a]eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat King of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

And he wrought evil in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father nor like his mother: for he took away the image of Baal that his father had made.

Nevertheless, he cleaved unto the [b]sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin, and departed not therefrom.

¶ Then [c]Mesha king of Moab had store of sheep, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand rams with the wool.

But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

Therefore King Jehoram went out of Samaria the same season, and numbered all Israel,

And went, and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me to battle against Moab? And he answered, I will go up: for [d]I am, as thou art, my people, as thy people, and mine horses, as thine horses.

Then said he, What way shall we go up? And he answered, The way of the wilderness of Edom.

¶ So went the king of Israel and the king of Judah, and the [e]king of Edom, and when they had compassed the way seven days, they had no water for the host, nor for the cattle that [f]followed them.

10 Therefore the king of Israel said, Alas, that the Lord hath called these three kings, to give them into the hand of Moab.

11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a Prophet of the Lord, that we may inquire of the Lord by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered, and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which [g]poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12 Then Jehoshaphat said, [h]The word of the Lord is with him. Therefore the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, [i]What have I to do with thee? get thee to the Prophets of thy father, and to the Prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, [j]Nay: for the Lord hath called these three kings, to give them into the hand of Moab.

14 Then Elisha said, As the Lord of hosts liveth, in whose sight I stand, if it were not, that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would [k]not have looked toward thee, nor seen thee.

15 But now bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel [l]played, the hand of the Lord came upon him.

16 And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches.

17 For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall neither see wind nor see rain, yet the valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye and your cattle, and your beasts.

18 But this is a [m]small thing in the sight of the Lord: for he will give Moab into your hand.

19 And ye shall smite every strong town, and every chief city, and shall fell every fair tree, and shall stop all the fountains of water, and [n]mar every good field with stones.

20 And in the morning when the meat offering was offered, behold, there came water by the way of Edom: and the country was filled with water.

21 And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that was able [o]to put on harness, and upward, and stood in their border.

22 And they rose early in the morning, when the Sun arose upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them, as red as blood.

23 And they said, [p]This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and one hath smitten another: now therefore Moab, to the spoil.

24 And when they came to the host of Israel, the Israelites arose up, and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them, but they [q]invaded them, and smote Moab.

25 And they destroyed the cities: and on all the good field every man cast his stone, and filled them and they stopped all the fountains of water, and felled all the good trees: only in [r]Kir Haraseth left they the stones thereof: howbeit they went about it with slings, and smote it.

26 And when the King of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew the sword, to break through unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

27 Then he took his eldest son, that should have reigned in his stead, and [s]offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall: so that Israel was sore grieved, and they departed from him, and returned to their country.

2 Thessalonians 3

1 He desireth them to further the preaching of the Gospel with their prayers, 6 and to withdraw themselves from those, who through idleness, 11 and curiosity pervert good order: 14 Whom he excludeth from the company of the faithful.

Furthermore, [a]brethren, (A)pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free passage and be glorified, even as it is with you.

And that we may be delivered from [b]unreasonable and evil men: [c]for all men have not faith.

But the Lord is faithful, which will stablish you, and keep you from [d]evil.

[e]And we are persuaded of you through the Lord, that ye both do, and will do the things which we warn you of.

[f]And the Lord guide your hearts to the love of God, and the waiting for of Christ.

[g]We warn you, brethren, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walked inordinately, and not after the instruction, which he received of us.

[h]For ye yourselves know, (B)how ye ought to follow us: (C)for we behaved not ourselves inordinately among you,

Neither took we bread of any man for nought: but we wrought with labor and travail night and day, because we would not be chargeable to any of you.

Not because we have not authority, but that we might make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

10 For even when we were with you, this we warned you of, that if there were any, which would not work, that he should not [i]eat.

11 For we hear, that there are some which walk among [j]you inordinately, and work not at all, [k]but are busybodies.

12 [l]Therefore them that are such, we warn and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work with quietness, and eat their own bread.

13 [m]And ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14 [n]If any man obey not this our saying in this letter, note him, and have no [o]company with him, [p]that he may be ashamed.

15 [q]Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

16 [r]Now the Lord himself of peace give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

17 [s]The salutation of me Paul, with mine own hand, which is the token in every Epistle: so I write,

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, Amen.

¶ The second Epistle to the Thessalonians, written from Athens.

Daniel 7

3 A vision of four beasts is showed unto Daniel. 8 The ten horns of the fourth beast. 27 Of the everlasting kingdom of Christ.

In the first year of Belshazzar King of Babel, Daniel saw a dream, and there were visions in his head, upon his bed: [a]then he wrote the dream, and declared the sum of the matter.

Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon [b]the great sea:

And four great beasts came up from the sea one divers from another.

The first was as a [c]lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the earth, and set upon his feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given him.

And behold, another beast which was the second, was like a [d]bear, and stood upon the [e]one side: and he had three ribs in his [f]mouth between his teeth, [g]and they said thus unto him, Arise, and devour much flesh.

After this, I beheld, and lo, there was another like a [h]leopard, which had upon his back [i]four wings of a fowl: the beast had also four heads, and [j]dominion was given him.

After this, I saw in the visions by night, and behold, the [k]fourth beast was fearful and terrible and very strong. It had great [l]iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped [m]the residue under his feet: and it was unlike to the beasts that were before it: for it had [n]ten horns.

As I considered the horns, behold, there came up among them another little [o]horn, before whom there were [p]three of the first horns plucked away: and behold, in this horn were [q]eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking presumptuous things.

I beheld till the [r]thrones were set up, and the [s]Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels, as burning fire.

10 A fiery stream issued, and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand [t]thousands stood before him: the judgment was set, and the [u]books opened.

11 Then I beheld, [v]because of the voice of the presumptuous words which the horn spake: I beheld, even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning fire.

12 As [w]concerning the other beasts, they had taken away their dominion: yet their lives were prolonged for a certain time and season.

13 ¶ As I beheld in visions by night, behold, [x]one like the son of man came in the clouds of heaven, and [y]approached unto the Ancient of days, and they brought him before him.

14 And he gave him [z]dominion, and honor, and a kingdom, that all people, nations and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall never be taken away: and his dominion shall never be destroyed.

15 ¶ I Daniel was [aa]troubled in my spirit, in the midst of my body, and the visions of mine head made me afraid.

16 Therefore I came unto [ab]one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this: so he told me, and showed me the interpretation of these things.

17 These great beasts which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth,

18 And they shall take the [ac]kingdom of the Saints of the [ad]most High, and shall possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.

19 ¶ After this, I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was [ae]so unlike to all the others, very fearful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass: which devoured brake in pieces, and stamped the [af]residue under his feet.

20 Also to know of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the others which came up, before whom three fell, and of the horn that had eyes, and of the mouth that spake presumptuous things, whose [ag]look was more stout than his fellows.

21 I beheld, and the same [ah]horn made battle against the Saints, yea, and prevailed against them,

22 Until [ai]the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the Saints of the most High: and the time approached, that the Saints possessed the kingdom.

23 Then he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom in the earth, which shall be unlike to all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down and break it in pieces.

24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten Kings that shall rise: and another shall rise after them, and he shall be unlike to the first, and he shall subdue [aj]three Kings,

25 And shall speak words against [ak]the most High, and shall consume the Saints of the most High, and think that he may [al]change times and laws, and they shall be given into his hand until a [am]time, and times, and the dividing of time.

26 But the [an]judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion to consume and destroy it unto the end.

27 And the [ao]kingdom, and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven shall be given to the holy people of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all [ap]powers shall serve and obey him.

28 Even this is the end of the matter, I Daniel had many [aq]cogitations which troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in mine heart.

Psalm 114-115

114 1 How the Israelites were delivered forth of Egypt, and of the wonderful miracles that God wrought at that time. Which put us in remembrance of God’s great mercy toward his Church, who when the course of nature faileth, preserveth his miraculously.

When (A)Israel went out of Egypt, and the house of Jacob from the [a]barbarous people,

Judah was his [b]sanctification, and Israel his dominion.

The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was turned back.

The [c]mountains leaped like rams, and the hills as lambs!

What ailed thee, O sea, that thou fleddest? O Jordan, why wast thou turned back?

Ye mountains why leaped ye like rams, and ye hills as lambs?

The [d]earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

Which [e]turneth the rock into waterpools, and the flint into a fountain of water.

115 1 A prayer of the faithful oppressed by idolatrous tyrants, against whom they desire that God would succor them,  9 trusting most constantly that God will preserve them in this their need, seeing, that he hath adopted and received them into his favor. 13 Promising finally that they will not be unmindful of so great a benefit if it would please God to hear their prayer, and deliver them by his omnipotent power.

Not [f]unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy Name give the glory for thy loving mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.

Wherefore shall the heathen say, [g]Where is now their God?

But our God is in heaven: he doeth whatsoever he [h]will.

Their idols are [i]silver and gold, even the work of men’s hands.

They have a mouth, and speak not: they have eyes, and see not.

They have ears, and hear not: they have noses and smell not.

They have [j]hands, and touch not: they have feet, and walk not: neither make they a sound with their throat.

They that make them are [k]like unto them: so are all that trust in them.

O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: for he is their help, and their shield.

10 [l]O house of Aaron trust ye in the Lord, for he is their help, and their shield.

11 Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: for he is their helper, and their shield.

12 The Lord hath been mindful of us, he will bless, he [m]will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron.

13 He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.

14 The Lord will increase his graces toward you, even toward you, and toward your children.

15 Ye are blessed of the Lord, which [n]made the heaven and the earth.

16 The [o]heavens, even the heavens are the Lord’s: but he hath given the earth to the sons of men.

17 The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that [p]go down into the place of silence.

18 But we will praise the Lord from henceforth and forever. Praise ye the Lord.
