Numbers 24

24 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek out enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

And he took up his parable and said: “Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said,

he hath said, who heard the words of God, who saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!

As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lignaloes which the Lord hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.

He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters; and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath, as it were, the strength of a unicorn. He shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones and pierce them through with his arrows.

He couched, he lay down as a lion. And as a great lion, who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.”

10 And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together; and Balak said unto Balaam, “I called thee to curse mine enemies, and behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.

11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place. I thought to promote thee unto great honor, but lo, the Lord hath kept thee back from honor.”

12 And Balaam said unto Balak, “Spoke I not also to thy messengers whom thou sentest unto me, saying,

13 ‘If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the Lord to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the Lord saith, that will I speak’?

14 And now, behold, I go unto my people. Come therefore, and I will warn thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.”

15 And he took up his parable and said: “Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said,

16 he hath said, who heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the Most High, who saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

17 I shall see Him, but not now; I shall behold Him, but not nigh. There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab and destroy all the children of Sheth.

18 And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies, and Israel shall do valiantly.

19 Out of Jacob shall come He that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.”

20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable and said: “Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.”

21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable and said: “Strong is thy dwelling place, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.

22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.”

23 And he took up his parable and said: “Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!

24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.”

25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

Psalm 66-67

66 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands!

Sing forth the honor of His name; make His praise glorious.

Say unto God, “How fearsome art Thou in Thy works! Through the greatness of Thy power shall Thine enemies submit themselves unto Thee.

All the earth shall worship Thee and shall sing unto Thee; they shall sing to Thy name.” Selah

Come and see the works of God; He is fearsome in His doings toward the children of men.

He turned the sea into dry land, they went through the flood on foot; there did we rejoice in Him.

He ruleth by His power for ever, His eyes behold the nations; let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah

O bless our God, ye people; and make the voice of His praise to be heard,

who holdeth our soul in life and alloweth not our feet to be moved.

10 For Thou, O God, hast tried us; Thou hast tried us as silver is tried.

11 Thou broughtest us into the net; Thou laidst affliction upon our loins.

12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water, but Thou broughtest us out into a fruitful place.

13 I will go into Thy house with burnt offerings; I will pay Thee my vows,

14 which my lips have uttered and my mouth hath spoken when I was in trouble.

15 I will offer unto Thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks and goats. Selah

16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what He hath done for my soul.

17 I cried unto Him with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue.

18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.

19 But verily God hath heard me; He hath attended to the voice of my prayer.

20 Blessed be God, who hath not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me!

67 God be merciful unto us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us, Selah

that Thy way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among all nations.

Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee.

O let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for Thou shalt judge the people righteously and govern the nations upon the earth. Selah

Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee.

Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

Isaiah 14

14 For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel and set them in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

And the people shall take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the Lord for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captive whose captives they were, and they shall rule over their oppressors.

And it shall come to pass in the day that the Lord shall give thee rest from thy sorrow and from thy fear and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,

that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say: “How hath the oppressor ceased! The golden city ceased!

The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked and the scepter of the rulers.

He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

The whole earth is at rest and is quiet; they break forth into singing.

Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, ‘Since thou art laid down, no hewer has come up against us.’

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

10 All they shall speak and say unto thee: ‘Art thou also become weak as we? Art thou become like unto us?’

11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols; the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

12 “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, who didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.’

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee and consider thee, saying, ‘Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms,

17 that made the world as a wilderness and destroyed the cities thereof, that opened not the house of his prisoners?’

18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.

19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit, as a carcass trodden under feet.

20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land and slain thy people. The seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers, that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.”

22 “For I will rise up against them,” saith the Lord of hosts, “and cut off from Babylon the name and remnant, and son and grandson,” saith the Lord.

23 “I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction,” saith the Lord of hosts.

24 The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying, “Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand;

25 that I will break the Assyrian in My land, and upon My mountains tread him under foot. Then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.”

26 This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth, and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.

27 For the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

28 In the year that King Ahaz died was this burden:

29 “Rejoice not thou, whole Philistia, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth an adder, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

30 And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.

31 Howl, O gate! Cry, O city! Thou, whole Philistia art dissolved! For there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.”

32 What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? “That the Lord hath founded Zion, and the poor of His people shall trust in it.”

1 Peter 2

Therefore laying aside all malice and all guile, and hypocrisy and envy and all evil speaking,

as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby,

if so it be that ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Coming to Him as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,

ye also as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious; and he that believeth in Him shall not be confounded.”

Unto you therefore who believe, He is precious; but unto those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,”

and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,” even to those who stumble at the Word, being disobedient, unto which also they were appointed.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

10 In times past ye were not a people, but are now the people of God; who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,

12 having your way of life honest among the Gentiles, that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether it be to the king as supreme,

14 or unto governors as unto those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do well.

15 For so is the will of God, that with welldoing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men”

16 as free, and not using your liberty as a cloak for maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

19 For this is thankworthy: if a man, because of his conscience toward God, endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

20 For what glory is it if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21 For even unto this were ye called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps,

22 “who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth”;

23 who when He was reviled, reviled not in return; when He suffered, He threatened not, but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously;

24 who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 For ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
