Genesis 43

43 And the famine was sore in the land.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, “Go again, buy us a little food.”

And Judah spoke unto him, saying, “The man did solemnly declare unto us, saying, ‘Ye shall not see my face, unless your brother be with you.’

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food.

But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down, for the man said unto us, ‘Ye shall not see my face, unless your brother be with you.’”

And Israel said, “Why dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?”

And they said, “The man asked us strictly about our state, and about our kindred, saying, ‘Is your father yet alive? Have ye another brother?’ And we told him according to the tenor of these words. Could we certainly know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

And Judah said unto Israel his father, “Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, both we and thou, and also our little ones.

I will be surety for him; from my hand shalt thou require him. If I bring him not unto thee and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever;

10 for had we not lingered, surely now we would have returned this second time.”

11 And their father Israel said unto them, “If it must be so now, do this: Take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts and almonds.

12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand. Perhaps it was an oversight.

13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man;

14 and God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved!”

15 And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and they rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

16 And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, “Bring these men home, and slay a beast and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.”

17 And the man did as Joseph bade, and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

18 And the men were afraid because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time are we brought in, that he may seek occasion against us and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and also our asses.”

19 And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house

20 and said, “O sir, we came indeed down the first time to buy food.

21 And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight; and we have brought it again in our hand.

22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food. We cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.”

23 And he said, “Peace be to you, fear not; your God and the God of your father hath given you treasure in your sacks. I had your money.” And he brought Simeon out unto them.

24 And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

25 And they made ready the present for Joseph’s coming at noon, for they heard that they should eat bread there.

26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves before him to the earth.

27 And he asked them of their welfare and said, “Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spoke? Is he yet alive?”

28 And they answered, “Thy servant our father is in good health; he is yet alive.” And they bowed down their heads and made obeisance.

29 And he lifted up his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your younger brother of whom ye spoke unto me?” And he said, “God be gracious unto thee, my son.”

30 And Joseph made haste, for his heart yearned for his brother, and he sought somewhere to weep; and he entered into his chamber and wept there.

31 And he washed his face and went out, and restrained himself, and said, “Set on the bread.”

32 And they served him by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright and the youngest according to his youth; and the men marveled one at another.

34 And he took and sent portions unto them from before him, but Benjamin’s portion was five times as much as any of theirs. And they drank and were merry with him.

Mark 13

13 And as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said unto Him, “Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!”

And Jesus answering, said unto him, “Seest thou these great buildings? There shall not be left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.”

And as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately,

“Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?”

And Jesus answering them, began to say, “Take heed lest any man deceive you.

For many shall come in My name, saying, ‘I am Christ!’ and shall deceive many.

And when ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, be ye not troubled, for such things must come to pass; but the end shall not be yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.

“But take heed for yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to councils, and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten. And ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony against them.

10 And the Gospel must first be proclaimed among all nations.

11 But when then shall lead you and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak; neither need ye premeditate. But whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents and shall cause them to be put to death.

13 And ye shall be hated by all men for My name’s sake; but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 “But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not be” (let him that readeth understand), “then let them that be in Judea flee to the mountains.

15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein to take any thing out of his house.

16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again to take up his garment.

17 But woe to them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!

18 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.

19 For in those days shall be affliction such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, neither shall be.

20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He hath chosen, He hath shortened the days.

21 And then if any man shall say to you, ‘Lo, here is Christ!’ or, ‘Lo, He is there!’ believe him not;

22 for false christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

23 But take ye heed; behold, I have foretold you all things.

24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, ‘the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

25 and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.’

26 And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

27 And then shall He send His angels and shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

28 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When her branch is yet tender and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near.

29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass till all these things be done.

31 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.

32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man — no, not the angels who are in Heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father.

33 “Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time is.

34 For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.

35 Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the Master of the house cometh — at evening, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning —

36 lest coming suddenly, He find you sleeping.

37 And what I say unto you, I say unto all: Watch!”

Job 9

Then Job answered and said:

“I know in truth it is so, but how should man be just before God?

If he will contend with Him, he cannot answer Him one in a thousand.

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against Him and hath prospered—

Who removeth the mountains, and they know not; Who overturneth them in His anger;

Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble;

Who commandeth the sun, and it riseth not, and sealeth up the stars;

Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea;

Who maketh Arcturus, Orion and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south;

10 Who doeth great things past finding out, yea, and wonders without number?

11 Lo, He goeth by me, and I see Him not; He passeth on also, but I perceive Him not.

12 Behold, He taketh away. Who can hinder Him? Who will say unto him, ‘What doest Thou?’

13 “If God will not withdraw His anger, the proud helpers do stoop under Him.

14 How much less shall I answer Him, and choose out my words to reason with Him—

15 whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my Judge?

16 If I had called and He had answered me, yet would I not believe that He had hearkened unto my voice.

17 For He breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

19 If I speak of strength, lo, He is strong; and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me; if I say, ‘I am perfect,’ it shall also prove me perverse.

21 Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul; I would despise my life.

22 This is all one thing. Therefore I said it: ‘He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.’

23 If the scourge slay suddenly, He will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covereth the faces of the judges thereof. If not, where and who is He?

25 “Now my days are swifter than a courier; they flee away, they see no good.

26 They are passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that hasteneth to the prey.

27 If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness and comfort myself,’

28 I am afraid of all my sorrows; I know that Thou wilt not hold me innocent.

29 If I be wicked, why then labor I in vain?

30 If I wash myself with snow water and make my hands never so clean,

31 yet shalt Thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

32 For He is not a man as I am, that I should answer Him and we should come together in judgment.

33 Neither is there any mediator between us who might lay his hand upon us both.

34 Let Him take His rod away from me, and let not fear of Him terrify me.

35 Then would I speak and not fear Him, but it is not so with me.

Romans 13

13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but from God; the powers that be are ordained by God.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God, and those who resist shall receive for themselves damnation.

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same,

for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid, for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Therefore ye must be subject not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

For, for this cause pay ye tribute also, for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

Owe no man anything, but to love one another, for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

For this, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” “Thou shalt not kill,” “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not bear false witness,” “Thou shalt not covet,” and if there be any other commandment, all are briefly comprehended in this saying, namely: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed.

12 The night is far spent; the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

13 Let us walk honestly as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in lewdness and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof.
