Version
Genesis 40

40 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.

And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers—against the chief of the butlers and against the chief of the bakers.

And he put them under guard in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them; and they continued a season under guard.

And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning and looked upon them, and behold, they were sad.

And he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in the guard of his lord’s house, saying, “Why look ye so sadly today?”

And they said unto him, “We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” And Joseph said unto them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me them, I pray you.”

And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream, behold, a vine was before me.

10 And in the vine were three branches; and it was as though it budded and her blossoms shot forth, and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes.

11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.”

12 And Joseph said unto him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.

13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head and restore thee unto thy place; and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me; and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house.

15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.”

16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, “I also was in my dream, and behold, I had three white baskets on my head.

17 And in the uppermost basket there were all manner of baked meats for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket upon my head.”

18 And Joseph answered and said, “This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days.

19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.”

20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again, and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand;

22 but he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23 Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgot him.

Mark 10

10 And He rose from thence, and went into the region of Judea by the farther side of the Jordan. And the people resorted unto Him again; and as He was wont, He taught them again.

And the Pharisees came to Him and asked Him, “Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife?” — testing Him.

And He answered and said unto them, “What did Moses command you?”

And they said, “Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.”

And Jesus answered and said unto them, “Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

But from the beginning of the creation, ’God made them male and female.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife,

and the two shall be one flesh.’ So then they are no more two, but one flesh.

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

10 And in the house His disciples asked Him again about the same matter.

11 And He said unto them, “Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12 And if a woman shall put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth adultery.”

13 And they brought young children to Him, that He should touch them; and His disciples rebuked those who brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased and said unto them, “Suffer the little children to come unto Me, and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.”

16 And He took them up in His arms, put His hands upon them, and blessed them.

17 And when He had gone forth onto the road, there came one running, and knelt before Him and asked Him, “Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?”

18 And Jesus said unto him, “Why callest thou Me good? There is none good but One, that is, God.

19 Thou knowest the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, defraud not, honor thy father and mother.’”

20 And he answered and said unto Him, “Master, all these have I observed from my youth.”

21 Then Jesus, beholding him, loved him and said unto him, “One thing thou lackest: Go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”

22 And he was sad at that saying and went away grieved, for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus looked round about and said unto His disciples, “How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the Kingdom of God!”

24 And the disciples were astonished at His words, but Jesus answered again and said unto them, “Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God!

25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God.”

26 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?”

27 And Jesus, looking upon them, said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”

28 Then Peter began to say unto Him, “Lo, we have left all and have followed Thee.”

29 And Jesus answered and said, “Verily I say unto you, there is no man that hath left house or brethren or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for My sake and the Gospel’s,

30 but he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the world to come, eternal life.

31 But many that are first shall be last, and the last first.”

32 And they were on the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went before them; and they were amazed, and as they followed, they were afraid. And He took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things would happen unto Him,

33 saying, “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn Him to death, and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles.

34 And they shall mock Him and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him and shall kill Him. And the third day He shall rise again.”

35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came unto Him, saying, “Master, we would that Thou should do for us whatsoever we shall desire.”

36 And He said unto them, “What would ye that I should do for you?”

37 They said unto Him, “Grant unto us that we may sit, one on Thy right hand and the other on Thy left hand, in Thy glory.”

38 But Jesus said unto them, “Ye know not what ye ask. Can ye drink of the cup that I drink of, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

39 And they said unto Him, “We can.” And Jesus said unto them, “Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized with, also shall ye be baptized.

40 But to sit on My right hand and on My left hand is not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.”

41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.

42 But Jesus called them to Him and said unto them, “Ye know that they that are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister,

44 and whosoever of you would be the chiefest shall be servant of all.

45 For even the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

46 And they came to Jericho. And as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the wayside begging.

47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace; but he cried out all the more, “Thou Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, “Be of good comfort; rise; He calleth thee.”

50 And he, casting away his garment, rose and came to Jesus.

51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?” The blind man said unto Him, “Lord, that I might receive my sight.”

52 And Jesus said unto him, “Go thy way. Thy faith hath made thee whole.” And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

Job 6

But Job answered and said:

“Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!

For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea; therefore my words are swallowed up.

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; the poison thereof drinketh up my spirit; the terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? Or loweth the ox over his fodder?

Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

The things that my soul refused to touch are as my distressing meat.

“Oh that I might have my request, and that God would grant me the thing that I long for:

even that it would please God to destroy me, that He would let loose His hand and cut me off!

10 Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow. Let Him not spare, for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

11 What is my strength, that I should hope? And what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?

12 Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh of brass?

13 Is not my help in me? And is wisdom driven quite from me?

14 “To him that is afflicted, pity should be shown by his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

15 My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away,

16 which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid.

17 When in time they wax warm, they vanish; when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

18 The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing and perish.

19 The troops of Tema looked; the companies of Sheba waited for them.

20 They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither and were ashamed.

21 For now ye are nothing; ye see my casting down and are afraid.

22 Did I say, ‘Bring unto me’? or, ‘Give a reward for me of your substance’?

23 Or, ‘Deliver me from the enemy’s hand’? or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the mighty’?

24 “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

25 How forceful are right words! But what doth your arguing reprove?

26 Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?

27 Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.

28 “Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.

29 Return, I pray you, let there be no iniquity; yea, return again; my righteousness is in it.

30 Is there iniquity on my tongue? Cannot my taste discern perverse things?

Romans 10

10 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved.

For I bear them record that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

For they, being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.

For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law: that “the man who doeth those things shall live by them.”

But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh in this manner: “Say not in thine heart, ‘Who shall ascend into Heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down from above)

or, “‘Who shall descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead).

But what saith it? “The Word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart,” that is, the word of faith which we preach:

that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the Scripture saith, “Whosoever believeth in Him shall not be ashamed.”

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all who call upon Him.

13 For “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

16 But they have not all obeyed the Gospel. For Isaiah saith, “Lord, who hath believed our report?”

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

18 But I ask, have they not heard? Yes, verily: “Their sound went out into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.”

19 But I ask, did not Israel know? First Moses saith, “I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.”

20 But Isaiah is very bold and saith, “I was found by them that sought Me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after Me.”

21 But to Israel he saith, “All day long I have stretched forth My hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.”
