M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
23 ¶ So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon, his son, king over Israel.
2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, and the priests and the Levites,
3 were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.
4 Of which, twenty-four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD, and six thousand were officers and judges;
5 moreover, four thousand were porters, and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which David had made to praise therewith.
6 And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 The sons of Gershon: Laadan and Shimei.
8 The sons of Laadan: Jehiel, the first, Zetham and Joel, three.
9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.
10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11 And Jahath was the first, and Zizah the second, but Jeush and Beriah did not multiply in many sons; therefore, they were in one reckoning, according to their father’s house.
12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated, that he should be dedicated to the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him and to bless in his name for ever.
14 And the sons of Moses, the man of God, were counted in the tribe of Levi.
15 The sons of Moses were Gershon and Eliezer.
16 Of the sons of Gershon, Shebuel was the chief.
17 And the son of Eliezer was Rehabiah, the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith, the chief.
19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah, the first, Amariah, the second, Jahaziel, the third, and Jekameam, the fourth.
20 The sons of Uzziel: Michah, the first, and Jesiah, the second.
21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22 And Eleazar died and had no sons, but daughters and their brethren, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.
23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24 ¶ These are the sons of Levi after the houses of their fathers, even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did work in the ministry of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.
25 For David said, The LORD God of Israel has given rest unto his people, and he shall dwell in Jerusalem for ever.
26 And also unto the Levites, they shall no longer carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for its ministry.
27 For by the last words of David, the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above.
28 And their station was at the hand of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and in the work of the ministry of the house of God,
29 both for the showbread and for the fine flour for the sacrifice and for the unleavened cakes and for that which is baked in the pan and for that which is fried and for all manner of measure and size,
30 and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening;
31 and to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons and solemnities, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD.
32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony and the charge of the holy place and the charge of the sons of Aaron, their brethren, in the ministry of the house of the LORD.
4 ¶ Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
2 so that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God.
3 For it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries.
4 ¶ And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution;
5 the same shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 Because for this cause was the gospel preached also to those that are dead, that they might be judged in flesh according to men, but live in spirit according to God.
7 ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves; for charity shall cover a multitude of sins.
9 Lovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.
10 Let each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God.
11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12 ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you,
13 but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph.
14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
15 So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others.
16 But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?
19 Therefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls unto him as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.
2 ¶ Woe unto those that devise iniquity and fabricate evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they put it into effect because they have power in their hands.
2 And they coveted fields and stole them, and houses and took them away; so they oppressed the man and his house, even the man and his heritage.
3 Therefore thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I devise an evil against this family, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye walk haughtily; for the time shall be evil.
4 In that time shall one take up a saying against you and lament with a doleful lamentation and say, We have been utterly destroyed; he has changed the portion of my people; how has he taken our fields! He has given and divided our fields unto others.
5 Therefore thou shalt have no one to cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.
6 ¶ Do not prophesy, they say to those that prophesy: Do not prophesy unto them that they are to understand shame.
7 O thou that calls thyself the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD shortened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walks uprightly?
8 He who yesterday was my people is risen up as an enemy; ye pull off the robe with the garment from those that pass by as those who return from war.
9 Ye have cast the women of my people out from their pleasant houses; from their children ye have taken away my continual praise.
10 Arise and depart, for this is not your rest because it is polluted; it has become corrupted and with a great corruption.
11 If there is one walking in the spirit of falsehood, he shall lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.
12 ¶ I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah as the flock in the midst of their fold; they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
13 The breaker shall go up before them; they shall break through and pass through the gate and go out by it; and their king shall pass before them, the LORD at the head of them.
11 ¶ And it came to pass that as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father who art in the heavens, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so also in the earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend and shall go unto him at midnight and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
6 for a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity, he will rise and give him as many as he needs.
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?
14 ¶ And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the demon was gone out, the one who had been dumb spoke; and the people marvelled.
15 But some of them said, He casts out devils through Beelzebub the prince of the demons.
16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every house or city divided against itself will not remain.
18 If Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out demons through Beelzebub.
19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.
20 But if I with the finger of God cast out the demons, certainly the kingdom of God is come upon you.
21 When an armed strong man keeps his palace, his goods are in peace;
22 but when another stronger than he shall come upon him and overcome him, he takes from him all his arms in which he trusted and divides his spoils.
23 He that is not with me is against me, and he that does not gather with me scatters.
24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return unto my house from which I came out.
25 And when he comes, he finds it swept and garnished.
26 Then he goes, and takes unto him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in and dwell there, and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
27 ¶ And it came to pass as he spoke these things, a certain woman of the crowd lifted up her voice and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee and the breasts which thou hast sucked.
28 But he said, Rather, blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it.
29 ¶ And gathering the people unto him, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
30 For as Jonah was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.
31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment against the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here.
33 No one, when he has lighted a lamp, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a lampstand that those who come in may see the light.
34 The lamp of the body is the eye; therefore when thine eye is sincere, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
35 Take heed therefore if the light which is in thee is darkness.
36 If thy whole body therefore is full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light as when the bright shining of a lamp doth give thee light.
37 ¶ And as he spoke, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him, and he went in and sat down to food.
38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.
39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.
40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?
41 But rather give alms {lit. do acts of mercy} of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs and pass over the judgment and the charity of God; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the first seats in the synagogues and greetings in the markets.
44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which are not seen, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
45 Then one of the lawyers answered and said unto him, Master, saying these things, thou dost reproach us also.
46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.
49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and others they shall persecute:
50 that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,
51 from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple; verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and those that were entering in, ye hindered.
53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently and to provoke him to speak of many things,
54 laying wait for him and seeking to catch something out of his mouth that they might accuse him.
