M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
16 ¶ So they brought the ark of God and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
2 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
3 And he dealt to all Israel, both men and women, to each one a loaf of bread and a good piece of flesh and a flagon of wine.
4 And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD and to record and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:
5 Asaph, the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps, but Asaph resounded with cymbals;
6 and Benaiah and Jahaziel, the priests, with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
7 ¶ Then, on that day, David began to thank the LORD by the hand of Asaph and his brethren.
8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, speak of all his wondrous works.
10 Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those that seek the LORD rejoice.
11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
12 Remember his marvellous works that he has done, his wonders and the judgments of his mouth;
13 O, ye seed of Israel, his slave, ye sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
15 Be mindful always of his covenant, the word which he commanded in a thousand generations,
16 the covenant which he cut with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
17 which he confirmed unto Jacob by statute, and to Israel in everlasting covenant,
18 saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the cord of your inheritance,
19 when ye were but few in number, and strangers in it.
20 And they went from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another people.
21 He would allow no one to oppress them; he reproved kings for their sakes,
22 saying, Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
23 Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; show forth from day to day his saving health.
24 Declare his glory among the Gentiles; his marvellous works among all peoples.
25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he also is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the people are worthless, but the LORD made the heavens.
27 Glory and beauty are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place.
28 Give unto the LORD, ye families of the peoples, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
29 Give unto the LORD the glory of his name; bring a present and come before him; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
30 Fear before him, all the earth; the world also is being made stable, that it be not moved.
31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let men say among the Gentiles, The LORD reigns.
32 Let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof; let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein.
33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he comes to judge the earth.
34 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good; for his mercy is eternal.
35 And say, Save us, O God our saving health, and gather us together and deliver us from the Gentiles, that we may give thanks to thy holy name and glory in thy praise.
36 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from eternity unto eternity. And all the people said, Amen and praised the LORD.
37 ¶ So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren to minister before the ark continually, each thing in its day;
38 and Obededom with their brethren, sixty-eight; Obededom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters.
39 And Zadok, the priest, and his brethren, the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon,
40 to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;
41 and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest that were chosen expressly by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy is eternal.
42 And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals to sound, and with other musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.
43 And all the people departed each one to his house; and David returned to bless his house.
3 ¶ My brethren, make not unto yourselves many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
2 For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint.
3 Behold, we put bits (or restraint) in the horses’ mouths to persuade them, and we govern their whole body.
4 Behold also the ships, which though they are so great are driven of fierce winds, yet they are governed with a very small rudder, wherever the governor desires.
5 In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of beings in the sea may be tamed and is tamed by mankind,
8 but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be restrained and is full of deadly poison.
9 With it we bless God, even the Father; and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
11 Does a fountain send forth at the same place both sweet and bitter water?
12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, produce olive berries? or the vine, figs? In the same manner no fountain can yield both salt water and fresh.
13 ¶ Who is wise and ready among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth.
15 This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical.
16 For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace unto those that make peace.
1 ¶ The vision of Obadiah. Thus hath the Lord GOD said concerning Edom: We have heard the message from the LORD, and a messenger is sent to the Gentiles, Arise, and let us rise up against her in battle.
2 Behold, I have made thee small among the Gentiles: thou shalt be greatly humbled.
3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle and though thou set thy nest among the stars, from there I will bring thee down, said the LORD.
5 Did thieves come to thee, or robbers by night? (how art thou destroyed!) would they not have stolen until they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?
6 How were the things of Esau searched out! His hidden things were sought after!
7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border; the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee and prevailed against thee; those that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee; there is no intelligence in this.
8 Shall I not in that day, said the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom and intelligence out of the mount of Esau?
9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed because every man shall be cut off from mount of Esau by the slaughter.
10 ¶ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11 In the day that thou didst stand on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.
12 But thou should not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should thou have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day they were lost; neither should thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
13 Thou should not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; thou should not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;
14 neither should thou have stood in the crossway, to kill those of his that did escape; neither should thou have delivered up those of his that remained in the day of distress.
15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the Gentiles: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the Gentiles drink continually; they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.
17 ¶ But in Mount Zion shall be deliverance, and it shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
19 And those of the south shall possess the mount of Esau and the plains of the Palestinians, and they shall also possess the fields of Ephraim and the fields of Samaria; and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
20 And the captives of this host of the sons of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who shall be in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.
21 And saviours shall come up unto Mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.
5 ¶ And it came to pass that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret
2 and saw two ships that were by the shore of the lake, but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing; nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes, and their net was breaking.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, who were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down on his knees before Jesus, saying, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.
9 For he was overcome with fear, and all that were with him, at the catch of the fishes which they had taken;
10 and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from now on thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all and followed him.
12 ¶ And it came to pass when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy who, seeing Jesus, fell on his face and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
13 And he put forth his hand and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
14 And he charged him to tell no one. But go and show thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
15 But so much the more his fame went forth, and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
16 But he withdrew himself into the wilderness and prayed.
17 ¶ And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who were come out of every town of Galilee and Judaea and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find any way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22 Then Jesus, knowing their thoughts and answering them said, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 What is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee, or to say, Rise up and walk?
24 But that ye may know that the Son of man has power upon earth to forgive sins (he said unto the paralytic), I say unto thee, Arise and take up thy couch and go to thine house.
25 And immediately he rose up before them and took up that upon which he lay and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen marvels today.
27 ¶ And after these things he went forth and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom, and he said unto him, Follow me.
28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
29 And Levi made a great banquet in his own house and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down at the table with them.
30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31 And Jesus answering said unto them, Those that are whole have no need of a physician, but those that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
33 Then they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees, but thine eat and drink?
34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the sons of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
36 And he also spoke a parable unto them: No one takes a piece of a new garment to mend an old one; if otherwise, then the new one is rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new does not agree with the old.
37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled and the wineskins shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.
39 No one also having drunk of the old straightway desires the new, for he says, The old is better.
