Numbers 19

19 2 The sacrifice of the red cow. 9 The sprinkling water. 11 He that toucheth the dead. 14 The man that dieth in a tent.

And the Lord spake to Moses, and to Aaron, saying,

[a]This is the ordinance of the Law, which the Lord hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel that they bring thee a red cow without blemish, wherein is no spot, upon the which never came yoke.

And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the Priest, that he may bring her (A)without the host, and cause her to [b]be slain before his face.

Then shall Eleazar the Priest take of her blood with his (B)finger, and sprinkle it before the Tabernacle of the Congregation seven times,

And cause the cow to be burnt in his sight: with her (C)skin, and her flesh, and her blood, and her dung shall he burn her.

Then shall the Priest take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet lace, and cast them in the midst of the fire where the cow burneth.

Then shall the [c]Priest wash his clothes, and he shall wash his flesh in water, and then come into the host, and the Priest shall be unclean unto the even.

Also he that [d]burneth her, shall wash his clothes in water, and wash his flesh in water, and be unclean until even.

And a man, that is clean, shall take up the ashes of the cow, and put them without the host in a clean place: and it shall be kept for the Congregation of the children of Israel for [e]a sprinkling water: it is a sin offering.

10 Therefore he that gathereth the ashes of the cow, shall wash his clothes, and remain unclean until even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that dwelleth among them, a statute forever.

11 He that toucheth the dead body of any man, shall be unclean even seven days.

12 He shall purify himself [f]therewith the third day, and the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean.

13 Whosoever toucheth the corpse of any man that is dead, and purgeth not himself, defileth the Tabernacle of the Lord, and that person shall be [g]cut off from Israel, because the sprinkling water was not sprinkled upon him: he shall be unclean, and his uncleanness shall remain still upon him.

14 This is the law, When a man dieth in a tent, all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.

15 And all the vessels that be open, which have no [h]covering fastened upon them, shall be unclean.

16 Also whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the field, or a dead person, or a bone of a dead man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.

17 Therefore for an unclean person, they shall take of the burnt ashes of the [i]sin offering, and [j]pure water shall be put thereto in a vessel.

18 And a [k]clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and on the persons that were therein, and upon him that touched the bone, or the slain, or the dead, or the grave.

19 And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean the third day, and the seventh day, and he shall purify himself the seventh day, and [l]wash his clothes, and wash himself in water, and shall be clean at even.

20 But the man that is unclean, and purifieth not himself, that person shall be cut off from among the Congregation, because he hath defiled the Sanctuary of the Lord: and the sprinkling water hath not been sprinkled upon him: therefore shall he be unclean.

21 And it shall be a perpetual law unto them, that he that sprinkleth the sprinkling water, shall wash his clothes: also he that toucheth the sprinkling water, shall be unclean until even.

22 And whatsoever the unclean person toucheth shall be unclean: and the person that toucheth [m]him, shall be unclean until the even.

Psalm 56-57

56 1 David being brought to Achish the king of Gath, 1 Sam. 21:12, complaineth of his enemies, demandeth succor, 3 Putteth his trust in God and in his promises, 12 And promiseth to perform his vows which he had taken upon him, whereof this was the effect, to praise God in his Church.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David on Michtam, concerning the [a]dumb dove in a far country, when the Philistines took him in Gath.

Be merciful unto me, O God, for [b]man would swallow me up: he fighteth continually and vexeth me.

Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for many fight against me, O thou most High.

When I was afraid, I trusted in thee.

I will rejoice in God, because of his [c]word, I trust in God, and will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Mine own [d]words grieve me daily: all their thoughts are against me to do me hurt.

[e]They gather together, and keep themselves close: they mark my steps, because they wait for my soul.

[f]They think they shall escape by iniquity: O God, cast these people down in thine anger.

Thou hast counted my wanderings; put my [g]tears into thy bottle; are they not in thy register?

When I cry, then mine enemies shall turn back; this I know, for God is with me.

10 I will rejoice in God because of his word; in the Lord will I rejoice because of his word.

11 In God do I trust; I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

12 [h]Thy vows are upon me, O God, I will render praises unto thee.

13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, and also my feet from falling, that I may [i]walk before God in the [j]light of the living.

57 1 David being in the desert of Ziph, where the inhabitants did betray him, and at length in the same cave with Saul, 2 Calleth most earnestly unto God, with full confidence that he will perform his promise, and take his cause in hand. 5 Also that he will show his glory in the heavens and the earth against his cruel enemies. 9 Therefore doth he render laud and praise.

To him that excelleth. [k]Destroy not. A Psalm of David on Michtam. (A)When he fled from Saul in the cave.

Have mercy upon me, O God, have mercy upon me; for my soul trusteth in thee, and in the shadow of thy wings will I [l]trust, till these [m]afflictions overpass.

I will call unto the most high God, even the God, that [n]performeth his promise toward me.

He will send from [o]heaven, and save me from the reproof of him that would swallow me. Selah. God will send his mercy, and his truth.

My soul is among lions; I lie among the children of men, that are set on fire; whose teeth are [p]spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

[q]Exalt thyself, O God, above the heaven, and let thy glory be upon all the earth.

They have laid a net for my steps; [r]my soul is pressed down, they have dug a pit before me, and are fallen into the midst of it. Selah.

Mine heart is [s]prepared, O God, mine heart is prepared; I will sing and give praise.

[t]Awake my tongue, awake viol and harp: I will awake early.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people, and I will sing unto thee among the nations.

10 For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the [u]clouds.

11 Exalt thyself, O God, above the heavens, and let thy glory be upon all the earth.

Isaiah 8:1-9:7

1 The captivity of Israel and Judah by the Assyrians. 6 The infidelity of the Jews. 9 The destruction of the Assyrians. 14 Christ the stone of stumbling to the wicked. 19 The word of God must be inquired at.

Moreover the Lord said unto me, Take thee a [a]great roll, and write it [b]with a man’s pen, Make speed to the spoil: haste to the prey.

Then I took unto me [c]faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the Priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

After, I came unto the [d]Prophetess, which conceived, and bare a son. Then said the Lord to me, Call his name, [e]Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.

For before the [f]child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, he shall take away the riches of Damascus, and the spoil of Samaria, before the [g]King of Assyria.

¶ And the Lord spake yet again unto me, saying,

Because this people hath refused the waters of [h]Shiloah that run softly, and rejoice with Rezin, and the son of Remaliah,

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of [i]the River mighty and great, even the King of Assyria with all his glory, and he shall come up upon all their rivers, and go over all their banks,

And shall break into Judah, and shall overflow, and pass through, and shall come up to the [j]neck, and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O [k]Immanuel.

Gather together on heaps, O ye [l]people, and ye shall be broken in pieces, and hearken all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces: gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces.

10 Take counsel together, yet, it shall be brought to naught: pronounce a decree, yet shall it not stand: for God is with us.

11 For the Lord spake thus to me, in taking [m]of mine hand, and taught me, that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 Say ye not, A [n]confederacy, to all them to whom this people saith a confederacy, neither fear you [o]their fear, nor be afraid of them.

13 [p]Sanctify the Lord of hosts, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread,

14 And he shall be as a [q]Sanctuary: but as a stumbling stone, and as a rock to fall upon, to both the houses of Israel, and as a snare and as a net to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 And many among them shall stumble, and shall fall, and shall be broken, and shall be snared, and shall be taken,

16 [r]Bind up the testimony: seal up the Law among my disciples.

17 Therefore I will wait upon the Lord that hath hid his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18 Behold, I and the [s]children whom the Lord hath given me, are as signs and as wonders in Israel, [t]by the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion.

19 And when they shall say unto you, Inquire at them that have a spirit of divination, and at the soothsayers which whisper and murmur, [u]Should not a people inquire at their God? from the [v]living to the dead?

20 To the [w]Law, and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word: it is because there is no [x]light in them.

21 Then he that is afflicted and famished, shall go to and fro in [y]it: and when he shall be hungry, he shall even fret himself, [z]and curse his king and his gods, and shall look upward.

22 And when he shall look to the earth, behold trouble, and [aa]darkness, vexation, and anguish, and he is driven to darkness.

1 The vocation of the Gentiles. 6 A prophecy of Christ. 14 The destruction of the ten tribes for their pride and contempt of God.

Yet [ab]the darkness shall not be according to the affliction, [ac]that it had when at the first he touched lightly the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, nor afterward when he was more grievous by the way of the sea beyond Jordan in Galilee of [ad]the Gentiles.

The people that [ae]walked in darkness, have seen a great [af]light: they that dwelled in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the [ag]light shined.

Thou hast [ah]multiplied the nation, and not increased their joy: they have rejoiced before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide a spoil.

For the [ai]yoke of their burden, and the staff of their shoulder, and the rod of their oppressor hast thou broken, as in the day of Midian.

Surely every battle of the warrior is with noise, and with tumbling of garments in blood: but this shall be [aj]with burning, and devouring of fire.

For unto us a child is born, and unto us a Son is given: and the government is upon his shoulder, and he shall call his name, Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting [ak]Father, The prince of peace.

The increase of his government and peace shall have none end: he shall sit upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to stablish it with judgment, and with justice, from henceforth, even forever: [al]the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

James 2

1 He sayeth, that to have respect of persons is not agreeable to Christ’s faith, 14 which to profess in words is not enough, unless 15 we show it also in deeds of mercy and charity, 21 after the example of Abraham.

My [a]brethren, have not the faith of our [b]glorious Lord Jesus Christ (A)in respect of persons.

For if there come into your company a man with a gold ring, and in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment,

And ye have a respect to him that weareth the gay clothing; and say unto him, Sit thou here in a [c]goodly place, and say unto the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool,

Are ye not partial in [d]your selves, and are become Judges of evil thoughts?

[e]Hearken my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the [f]poor of this world, that they should be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?

But ye have despised the poor. [g]Do not the rich oppress you by tyranny, and do they not draw you before the judgment seats?

Do not they blaspheme the worthy Name after which ye be [h]named?

[i]But if ye fulfill the [j]royal Law according to the Scripture, which saith, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well.

But if ye regard the persons, ye commit sin, and are rebuked of the Law, as transgressors.

10 [k]For whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet faileth in one point, he is guilty of [l]all.

11 [m]For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not kill. Now though thou doest none adultery, yet if thou killest, thou art a transgressor of the Law.

12 [n]So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judgeth by the Law of liberty.

13 For there shall be condemnation merciless to him that showeth not [o]mercy, and mercy rejoiceth against condemnation.

14 [p]What availeth it my brethren, though a man saith, he hath faith, when he hath no works? can that faith save him?

15 [q]For if a brother or a sister be naked and destitute of daily food,

16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace: warm yourselves, and fill your bellies, notwithstanding ye give them not those things, which are needful to the body, what helpeth it?

17 Even so the faith, if it have no works, is dead in itself.

18 But [r]some man might say, Thou hast the faith, and I have works: show me thy faith out of thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

19 [s]Thou believest that there is one God: thou doest well: the devils also believe it, and tremble.

20 [t]But wilt thou understand, O thou vain man, that the faith which is without works, is dead?

21 Was not Abraham our father [u]justified through works, (B)when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22 Seest thou not that the faith [v]wrought with his works? and through the works was the faith made [w]perfect.

23 And the Scripture was [x]fulfilled which saith, (C)Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God.

24 [y]Ye see then how that of works a man is [z]justified, and not of [aa]faith only.

25 [ab]Likewise also was not (D)Rahab the harlot justified through works, when she had received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

26 [ac]For as the body without the spirit is dead, even so the faith without works is dead.
