Genesis 46

Jacob Moves to Egypt

46 So Israel set out with all that he had, and came to (A)Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the (B)God of his father Isaac. (C)God spoke to Israel [a]in visions of the night and said, “(D)Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “(E)I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will (F)make you a great nation there. (G)I will go down with you to Egypt, and (H)I will also surely bring you up again; and (I)Joseph will [b]close your eyes.”

Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the (J)wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. They took their livestock and their property, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and (K)came to Egypt, Jacob and all his [c]descendants with him: his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his [d]descendants he brought with him to Egypt.

Those Who Came to Egypt

Now these are the (L)names of the sons of Israel, Jacob and his sons, who went to Egypt: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn. The sons of Reuben: Hanoch and Pallu and Hezron and Carmi. 10 The (M)sons of Simeon: [e]Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and [f]Jachin and [g]Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. 11 The sons of Levi: [h]Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 12 The sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). And the (N)sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. 13 The sons of Issachar: Tola and [i]Puvvah and [j]Iob and Shimron. 14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered and Elon and Jahleel. 15 These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah; [k]all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three. 16 The (O)sons of Gad: [l]Ziphion and Haggi, Shuni and [m]Ezbon, Eri and [n]Arodi and Areli. 17 The (P)sons of Asher: Imnah and Ishvah and Ishvi and Beriah and their sister Serah. And the (Q)sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons. 19 The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. 20 (R)Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him. 21 The (S)sons of Benjamin: Bela and Becher and Ashbel, Gera and Naaman, [o]Ehi and Rosh, [p]Muppim and [q]Huppim and Ard. 22 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all. 23 The sons of Dan: [r]Hushim. 24 The sons of Naphtali: [s]Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and [t]Shillem. 25 These are the (T)sons of Bilhah, whom (U)Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and she bore these to Jacob; there were seven persons in all. 26 (V)All the persons belonging to Jacob, who came to Egypt, [u]his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob’s sons, were sixty-six persons in all, 27 and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt were [v]two; (W)all the persons of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy.

28 Now he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to point out the way before him to (X)Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. 29 Joseph [w]prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared [x]before him, he fell on his neck and (Y)wept on his neck a long time. 30 Then Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive.” 31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “(Z)I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me; 32 and the men are shepherds, for they have been [y]keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’ 33 When Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘(AA)What is your occupation?’ 34 you shall say, ‘Your servants have been [z](AB)keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ that you may [aa]live in the land of (AC)Goshen; for every shepherd is [ab](AD)loathsome to the Egyptians.”

Mark 16

The Resurrection

16 (A)When the Sabbath was over, (B)Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of [a]James, and Salome, (C)bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Very early on the first day of the week, they *came to the tomb when the sun had risen. They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away (D)the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” Looking up, they *saw that the stone had been rolled away, [b]although it was extremely large. (E)Entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe; and they (F)were amazed. And he *said to them, “(G)Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the (H)Nazarene, who has been crucified. (I)He has risen; He is not here; behold, here is the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘(J)He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.’” They went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had gripped them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

[[c]Now after He had risen early on the first day of the week, He first appeared to (K)Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons. 10 (L)She went and reported to those who had been with Him, while they were mourning and weeping. 11 When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, (M)they refused to believe it.

12 After that, (N)He appeared in a different form (O)to two of them while they were walking along on their way to the country. 13 They went away and reported it to the others, but they (P)did not believe them either.

The Disciples Commissioned

14 Afterward (Q)He appeared (R)to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He reproached them for their (S)unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, (T)Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 (U)He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17 These [d]signs will accompany those who have believed: (V)in My name they will cast out demons, they will (W)speak with new tongues; 18 they will (X)pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will (Y)lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had (Z)spoken to them, He (AA)was received up into heaven and (AB)sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the [e]signs that followed.]

[[f]And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions. And after that, Jesus Himself sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation.]

Job 12

Job Chides His Accusers

12 Then Job [a]responded,

“Truly then (A)you are the people,
And with you wisdom will die!
“But (B)I have intelligence as well as you;
I am not inferior to you.
And [b]who does not know such things as these?
“I am a (C)joke to [c]my friends,
The one who called on God and He answered him;
The just and (D)blameless man is a joke.
[d]He who is at ease holds calamity in contempt,
As prepared for those whose feet slip.
“The (E)tents of the destroyers prosper,
And those who provoke God (F)are secure,
[e]Whom God brings (G)into their power.

“But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you;
And the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you.
“Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you;
And let the fish of the sea declare to you.
“Who among all these does not know
That (H)the hand of the Lord has done this,
10 (I)In whose hand is the life of every living thing,
And (J)the breath of all mankind?
11 “Does not (K)the ear test words,
As the palate [f]tastes its food?
12 “Wisdom is with (L)aged men,
With [g]long life is understanding.

Job Speaks of the Power of God

13 “With Him are (M)wisdom and (N)might;
To Him belong counsel and (O)understanding.
14 “Behold, He (P)tears down, and it cannot be rebuilt;
He [h](Q)imprisons a man, and [i]there can be no release.
15 “Behold, He (R)restrains the waters, and they dry up;
And He (S)sends them out, and they [j]inundate the earth.
16 “With Him are strength and sound wisdom,
The (T)misled and the misleader belong to Him.
17 “He makes (U)counselors walk [k]barefoot
And makes fools of (V)judges.
18 “He (W)loosens the [l]bond of kings
And binds their loins with a girdle.
19 “He makes priests walk [m]barefoot
And overthrows (X)the secure ones.
20 “He deprives the trusted ones of speech
And (Y)takes away the discernment of the elders.
21 “He (Z)pours contempt on nobles
And (AA)loosens the belt of the strong.
22 “He (AB)reveals mysteries from the darkness
And brings the deep darkness into light.
23 “He (AC)makes the nations great, then destroys them;
He [n]enlarges the nations, then leads them away.
24 “He (AD)deprives of intelligence the chiefs of the earth’s people
And makes them wander in a pathless waste.
25 “They (AE)grope in darkness with no light,
And He makes them (AF)stagger like a drunken man.

Romans 16

Greetings and Love Expressed

16 I (A)commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a [a]servant of the church which is at (B)Cenchrea; that you (C)receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the [b](D)saints, and that you help her in whatever matter she may have need of you; for she herself has also been a helper of many, [c]and of myself as well.

Greet (E)Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers (F)in (G)Christ Jesus, who for my life risked their own necks, to whom not only do I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles; also greet (H)the church that is in their house. Greet Epaenetus, my beloved, who is the (I)first convert to Christ from [d](J)Asia. Greet Mary, who has worked hard for you. Greet Andronicus and [e]Junias, my (K)kinsmen and my (L)fellow prisoners, who are outstanding among the apostles, who also [f]were (M)in Christ before me. Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord. Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker (N)in Christ, and Stachys my beloved. 10 Greet Apelles, the approved (O)in Christ. Greet those who are of the household of Aristobulus. 11 Greet Herodion, my (P)kinsman. Greet those of the household of Narcissus, who are in the Lord. 12 Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa, workers in the Lord. Greet Persis the beloved, who has worked hard in the Lord. 13 Greet (Q)Rufus, a choice man in the Lord, also his mother and mine. 14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the brethren with them. 15 Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all (R)the [g]saints who are with them. 16 (S)Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

17 Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and [h]hindrances (T)contrary to the teaching which you learned, and (U)turn away from them. 18 For such men are (V)slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of (W)their own [i]appetites; and by their (X)smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. 19 For the report of your obedience (Y)has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, but (Z)I want you to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil. 20 (AA)The God of peace will soon crush (AB)Satan under your feet.

(AC)The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

21 (AD)Timothy my fellow worker greets you, and so do (AE)Lucius and (AF)Jason and (AG)Sosipater, my (AH)kinsmen.

22 I, Tertius, who (AI)write this letter, greet you in the Lord.

23 (AJ)Gaius, host to me and to the whole church, greets you. (AK)Erastus, the city treasurer greets you, and Quartus, the brother. 24 [[j]The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.]

25 (AL)Now to Him who is able to establish you (AM)according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of (AN)the mystery which has been kept secret for (AO)long ages past, 26 but now is manifested, and by (AP)the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, has been made known to all the nations, leading to (AQ)obedience of faith; 27 to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, (AR)be the glory forever. Amen.
