M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
35 ¶ And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou didst flee from the face of Esau, thy brother.
2 Then Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you and be clean and change your garments:
3 And let us arise and go up to Bethel and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and has been with me in the way which I have gone.
4 So they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their power and all their earrings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5 And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6 ¶ And Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
7 And there he built an altar and called the place Elbethel because there God had appeared unto him when he fled from the face of his brother.
8 Then Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak, and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.
9 And God appeared unto Jacob again when he came out of Padanaram and blessed him.
10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob; thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name, and he called his name Israel.
11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and a company of nations (Gentiles) shall come out of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
12 and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac, to thee will I give it and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering upon it, and he poured oil upon it.
15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.
16 ¶ And they journeyed from Bethel, and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath when Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
17 And it came to pass when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
18 And it came to pass as her soul was departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni, but his father called him Benjamin.
19 Thus Rachel died and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.
21 ¶ And Israel journeyed and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
22 And it came to pass when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23 The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid: Dan and Naphtali.
26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Padanaram.
27 And Jacob came unto Isaac, his father, unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28 And the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.
29 And Isaac expired and died and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days, and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
36 ¶ Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.
2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon, the Hittite; Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite;
3 and Bashemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.
4 And Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz, and Bashemath bore Reuel,
5 and Aholibamah bore Jeush and Jaalam and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, who were born unto him in the land of Canaan.
6 And Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all the persons of his house and his cattle and all his beasts and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan, and went into another country from the face of his brother Jacob.
7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together, and the land in which they were strangers could not bear them because of their livestock.
8 Thus dwelt Esau in Mount Seir; Esau is Edom.
9 ¶ And these are the lineages of Esau, the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.
10 These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, the wife of Esau; Reuel, the son of Bashemath, the wife of Esau.
11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore to Eliphaz Amalek: these are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.
13 And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these were the sons of Bashemath, Esau’s wife.
14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: she gave birth unto Esau Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.
15 These are dukes of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn son of Esau: duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,
16 duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.
17 And these are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau’s wife.
18 And these are the sons of Aholibamah, Esau’s wife: duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah; these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife.
19 These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.
20 ¶ These are the sons of Seir, the Horite, who inhabited the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the dukes of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom.
22 And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.
23 And the sons of Shobal were these: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
24 And these are the sons of Zibeon: both Ajah and Anah; this was that Anah that invented mules in the wilderness as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.
25 And the children {Heb. sons} of Anah were these: Dishon and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.
26 And these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.
27 The sons of Ezer are these: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.
28 The sons of Dishan are these: Uz and Aran.
29 These are the dukes that came of the Horites: duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah,
30 duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan; these are the dukes that came of Hori; by their dukedoms in the land of Seir.
31 ¶ And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel.
32 And Bela, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
33 And Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah of Bozrah, reigned in his stead.
34 And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.
35 And Husham died, and Hadad, the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Avith.
36 And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.
37 And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead.
38 And Saul died, and Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, reigned in his stead.
39 And Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, died, and Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
40 And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names: duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,
41 duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,
42 duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar,
43 duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these were the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is the Esau, the father of Edom.
6 ¶ And he went out from there and came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him and such mighty works that are wrought by his hands?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses and of Juda and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not dishonoured except in his own country and among his own kin and in his own house.
5 And he could do no mighty work there except that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went through the villages round about, teaching.
7 ¶ And he called unto him the twelve and began to send them forth by two and two and gave them power over the unclean spirits
8 and commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey except a staff only: no provision bag, no bread, no money in their purse;
9 but be shod with sandals and not put on two coats.
10 And he said unto them, In whatever place ye enter into a house, there abide until ye depart from that place.
11 And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet in testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment than for that city.
12 And they went out and preached that men should repent.
13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many that were sick, and they were healed.
14 ¶ And king Herod heard of him (for his name was spread abroad), and he said, John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and therefore virtues operate in him.
15 Others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is the prophet or one of the prophets.
16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, This is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.
18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him and would have killed him, but she could not;
20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and respected him; and when he heard him, he did many things and heard him gladly.
21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his princes and tribunes and to the principal people of Galilee;
22 and when the daughter of Herodias came in and danced and pleased Herod and those that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it unto thee.
23 And he swore unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it unto thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
24 And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
25 And she came in with haste unto the king and asked, saying, I will that thou give me immediately in a platter the head of John the Baptist.
26 And the king was exceeding sorry, yet for his oath’s sake and for the sakes of those who sat with him, he would not reject her.
27 And straightway the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought, and he went and beheaded him in the prison
28 and brought his head in a platter and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.
29 And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
30 ¶ And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus and told him everything they had done and what they had taught.
31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while; for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
33 And many saw them departing and knew him and ran there afoot out of the cities and arrived before them and came together unto him.
34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw a great multitude and had mercy on them because they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.
35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed;
36 send them away that they may go into the country round about and into the villages and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.
37 He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said unto him, Shall we go and buy bread for two hundred denarius and give them to eat?
38 He said unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they said, Five, and two fishes.
39 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to set before them, and the two fishes he divided among them all.
42 And they all ate and were filled.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fishes.
44 And those that ate were five thousand men.
45 ¶ And straightway he told his disciples to get quickly into the ship and to go to the other side before him unto Bethsaida while he dispatched the people.
46 And when he had dispatched them, he departed into the mountain to pray.
47 And when night was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them; and about the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a ghost and cried out,
50 For they all saw him and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them and said unto them, Be of good cheer; I AM; be not afraid.
51 And he went up unto them into the ship, and the wind ceased; and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure and wondered.
52 For they had not yet derived understanding in the loaves, for their hearts were blind.
53 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret and drew to the shore.
54 And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him
55 and ran through that whole region round about and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
56 And wherever he entered, into villages or cities or fields, they laid the sick in the streets and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment, and as many as touched him were saved.
2 ¶ Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
2 And the LORD said unto Satan, Where dost thou come from? And Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it.
3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my slave Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and has departed from evil and that he still retains his perfection, although thou didst incite me against him to destroy him without cause.
4 And Satan answered the LORD and said, Skin for skin, all that a man has he will give for his life.
5 But put forth thy hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and thou shalt see if he does not blaspheme thee to thy face.
6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thy hand, but preserve his life.
7 ¶ So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto the crown of his head.
8 And he took a potsherd to scratch himself with, and he was sitting among the ashes.
9 Then his wife said unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Blaspheme God and die.
10 But he said unto her, Thou hast spoken as any of the foolish women speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
11 ¶ Now three friends of Job, Eliphaz, the Temanite, Bildad, the Shuhite, and Zophar, the Naamathite, when they heard of all this evil that had come upon him, each one came from his own place; for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off and knew him not, they lifted up their voice and wept; and each one rent his mantle and sprinkled dust upon his head toward heaven.
13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word unto him; for they saw that his grief was very great.
6 ¶ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 No, in no wise. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not that all of us that are baptized into Jesus the Christ are baptized into his death?
4 For we are buried with him by baptism into death, that just as the Christ was raised up from the dead to the glory of the Father, likewise we also walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection,
6 knowing this: that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that we should not serve sin any longer.
7 For he that is dead is justified from sin.
8 Now if we die with the Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him,
9 knowing that the Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more; death has no more dominion over him.
10 For he that is dead died unto sin once, and he that lives, lives unto God.
11 Likewise also reckon yourselves to be truly dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither present your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but present yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 So that sin shall have no dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? No, in no wise.
16 Or know ye not that to whom ye present yourselves slaves to obey, his slaves ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death or of the obedience unto righteousness?
17 Thank God that, although ye were the slaves of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;
18 and freed from sin, ye are become the slaves of righteousness.
19 I speak a human thing because of the weakness of our flesh: that as ye presented your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, likewise now present your members to serve righteousness unto holiness.
20 For being previously the slaves of sin, now ye have been made the slaves of righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now freed from sin and made slaves to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
